A popular Chinese mobile game, “King of Glory,” has been criticized (批评) for showing an incorrect image of ancient Chinese history.
State newspaper Guangming Daily published an article on March 28 criticising the game. The article said that, though many famous names from Chinese history are used, characters (角色) in “King of Glory” don’t accord with the historical people and their true stories.
According to the newspaper, famous poet Li Bai from the Tang Dynasty became an assassin (刺客), while well-known doctor Bian Que from the Spring and Autumn Period became an expert on poison. More than 60 characters in the game were characters from
history, including many from the classic novel “Romance of the Three Kingdoms.”
“They (the characters in the game) not only travel through time and space to fight together, but also take on historical people’ names with no connection at all to their experiences in history,” the newspaper said, adding that this could easily confuse young players. Some 54 percent of the game’s players are aged between 11 and 20, the newspaper added.
“King of Glory” is designed by Tencent Games. It first appeared in 2015. In 2016, the total profit (利润) of the game reached nearly 7 billion RMB, some 18 percent of the total profit for mobile gaming in China.
The Guangming Daily article received a lot of support and approval. Some of the supporters said that online search results for the historical people increasingly provide information about the characters in the game rather than the real historical ones.
However, some hit back at the criticism, saying that games are supposed to be creative and fun.
“I am clear that there are many young players, some even in primary school. Some might be affected by the game in certain ways, but it can do a lot of good if students become interested in the characters and do more research to that end,” one “King of Glory” player told the People’s Daily Online.
24. The underlined word “accord” in paragraph 2 means ______.
A. compare B. agree C. react D. mix
25. Which is NOT true according to the passage?
A. About half of the game’s players are from11 to 20 in age.
B. In 2016 the total profit for mobile games in China was about 39 billion RMB.
C. You may get information about the assassin Li Bai if you search online.
D. Many young players become interested in the historical figures through the game.
26. What is the author’s main purpose of writing the passage?
A. To explain why the game is popular.
B. To show that the game has been criticized.
C. To make people believe that the game should be banned.
D. To introduce the game to the public.

People are less likely to yawn(打哈欠) when others do as they get older, a study has found.
Contagious(传染的) yawning is related more closely to a person’s age than tiredness and energy levels, US-based scientists said. Researchers are now looking at whether to catch yawns from other people is a born ability, with the hope of helping treat some mental health disorders.
People with some mental illnesses are reportedly less able to catch yawns, researchers said, so understanding the genes(基因) that are connected with contagious yawning could open new paths for treatment.
In the study, published in the journal Plos One, 328 participants were shown a three-minute video showing other people yawning. Each participant had to click a button every time they yawned. Overall, 68 percent of the participants yawned. Of those, 82 percent of people aged under 25 yawned, compared with 60 percent of people aged
between 25 and 49, and 41 percent of people aged over 50.
Dr Elizabeth Cirulli, assistant professor of medicine at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, led the study. She said, “This is the first study to look at a large number of factors. It is the largest study, when it comes to the number of people participating, till now.” She said she did not know why contagious yawning reduced with age.
Dr Cirulli added that although age was the most important predictor(预测器) of contagious yawning, only 8% of the change in whether or not a participant yawned was explained by their age.
“Most of change in the contagious yawning reaction was just not explained,” said Dr Cirulli.
Robert R Provine, professor of psychology at the University of Maryland in Baltimore County, said the study was “special” as it was the first time a link between ageing and contagious yawning had been shown. Prof Provine said the findings could help to understand why laughing and coughing were so contagious. He added, “Contagious acts such as yawning and laughing remind us that we are often mindless to control our behaviour.”
27. Why do the researchers carry out studies on yawning?
A. To stop yawning from spreading B. To deal with some mental illnesses
C. To find out yawning is a born activity D. To help prevent people from yawning
28. What can we learn from the study on yawning?
A. The study lasted for 3 minutes.
B. A 15-year-old boy is more likely to yawn than a 50-year-old man.
C. People with mental disease are more likely to yawn when others do.
D. Age has the most important influence on contagious yawning.
29. Which of the following is Professor Provine’s opinion?
A. The study is so far the largest one as for the number of people participating.
B. Aging and contagious yawning are closely related.
C. People are often influenced by contagious acts without knowing it.
D. Factors besides age also have an effect on contagious yawning.
30. What is the best title of the passage?
A. New paths for treatment of mental disorders.
B. Opinions of professors on contagious yawning.
C. Influences of contagious yawning on people.
D. Ageing and contagious yawning.

As the Spring Festival is approaching, our whole country is in festive mood. Of all the traditions, pasting couplets on doors is the most common and important one. With black characters written on red papers, the couplets carry people’s best wishes for the coming year. So important is the tradition that a couplet exhibition will be held in our city from February 1st and last for one week. There are many activities ranging from couplet appreciation to competitions of composing couplets, the winners of which will be given two pairs of beautifully-written couplets.
No doubt that the exhibition is a precious chance for you to experience traditional Chinese culture, so I can’t wait to invite you to come to it. I am looking forward to seeing you here in China soon.
