Zero. That’s the number of points I scored the entire summer while playing in Philadelphia’s Sonny Hill Future League when I was 12 years old. I didn’t score. Not a free throw, not an accidental layup, not even a lucky throw-the-ball-up-oops-it-went-in-basket.
My father Joe “Jellybean” Bryant and my uncle John “Chubby” Cox were Future League legends in their day. My father as a 6’10” point forward and my uncle as a 6’4” point guard.
I was putting my family to shame!
I considered maybe just giving up basketball and just focusing on soccer. Here’s where my respect and admiration for MJ was forged (形成). I learned that he had been cut from his high school team as a freshman; I learned he knew what it felt like to be embarrassed, to feel like a failure. But he used those emotions to fuel him, make him stronger, he didn’t quit. So I decided to take on my challenge the same way he did. I would channel my failure as fuel to keep my competitive fire burning. I became obsessed with proving to my family — and more importantly to myself — that I CAN DO THIS.
It became an obsession. I learned everything about the game, the history, the players, the fundamentals. I wasn’t just determined to never have a summer of zero again, I was driven to inflict (使遭受) the same sense of failure on my competition as they unknowingly inflicted on me. My killer instinct to score was born.
Twenty-four years later, I pass my muse. What a journey this has been. Setting this mark is a huge honor. Thank you all for your love and support, it is much appreciated, even if the villain (恶棍) in me refuses to acknowledge it all the time.
24.Why did the author feel like giving up basketball when he was a kid?
A. He lost interest in basketball.
B. He showed a greater talent for football.
C. He felt that he didn’t deserve his family name.
D. His family was disappointed at his performance.
25.What did the author think of failure after knowing about MJ’s story?
A. Motivator. B. Nightmare. C. Embarrassment. D. Shame.
26.What has the author achieved Twenty-four years later?
A. He has beaten MJ in his achievement.
B. He has known everything about basketball.
C. He has become another Future League legend.
D. He has defeated his nightmare of the Zero-scored summer.
27.Which word can best describe the author’s character?
A. Fragile B. Aggressive C. Optimistic D. Proud
C
Zoos have traditionally been built in a certain way: Animals on the inside, humans on the outside, peering in. This separation is good in theory—humans and animals need to be protected from one another—but terrible in practice, as animals end up living in an environment far from a natural habitat. A new plan for a Zoo in Denmark wants to reverse those roles, giving animals more freedom in captivity while effectively placing humans inside protective barriers.
Called Zootopia, the conceptual design has the goal of turning the safari style zoo into a place where animals determine interaction—not humans. "Try to imagine if you asked the animals what they would like. What would they decide?" says the director of the project. "They want their nature back, so to speak, and we are going to try to create that".
In Zootopia, animals will wander free around the perimeter (周围,边缘)while humans observe, hidden away from view in underground passageways and naturalistic architecture structures. Visitors can watch lions through an underground enclosure disguised as a hill. They'll peek out at giraffes through windowed houses built into the side of a hilly plains. Outside of the main circular entrance, there will be no traditional buildings. "We want to take away human influence," said Zootopia's designers.
The main challenge, of course, is to design the zoo in a way that the enclosure is still there but it's not visible. The two-phase plan, which will cost around $200 million, is still in the improving and approval phase; it'll be at least five years until we see any work finished on the park, and it's likely to take upwards of 10 years before it opens. Can the animals wait that long?
28. Why does a zoo in Denmark plan to create Zootopia?
A. to protect animals from humans.
B. to provide animals with a natural habitat.
C. to provide humans with more freedom in the zoo.
D. to protect humans and give animals enough freedom.
29. Different from traditional zoos, in Zootopia .
A. animals enjoy full freedom.
B. there will be no conventional buildings.
C. humans watch animals without being noticed.
D. humans can interact with animals at their will.
30. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. It’s tricky to design the enclosure.
B. Zootopia is now under construction.
C. There is a long way to go before Zootopia operates.
D. Zootopia arouses people’s concern about animals.
31. What is the passage mainly about?
A. the future of Zootopia B. the development of Zootopia
C. the fall of traditional zoos D. the concept of a cage-free zoo
D
If you often choose to spend your evenings settling into your bed with a cup of tea and Netflix, it’s probably a sign that you’re an introvert. But while flying solo can reveal a lot about your personality, it might say something about your smarts, too. Yes, it’s true: New research says that introverts could have a higher IQ.
Generally speaking, the more often people socialize with friends, the happier they feel. But intelligent people tend to prefer their “me time”, according to a new study by researchers at Singapore Management University and the London School of Economics.
To reach these results, the team of psychologists conducted two studies using data from a massive national review of over 15,000 people between the ages of 18 and 28. The first study examined the link between subjects’ scores on an intelligence test, the population density in the area where subjects lived, and how satisfied subjects reported feeling with their lives. Meanwhile, the second evaluated how subjects’ IQ scores compared to their life satisfaction and how often they socialized with friends.
Overall, participants who lived in less populated areas reported feeling happier, whereas those with high IQ scores who lived in the same areas felt less satisfied. Most people were also happier the more often they socialized, the results found. But on the flip side, intelligent people reported feeling less satisfied with their lives the more time they spent with friends.
While these two conclusions seem to contradict each other, the psychologists believe they can be explained by “the savanna theory of happiness.” Here’s the basic rundown: Back when our ancestors were hunter-gatherers, spending time with friends was essential to survive; now, as a result, most of us feel unhappy when we are isolated. But because people with high IQs don’t follow that rule, some scientists believe that intelligent brains are simply more adaptable to what would otherwise be unusual environments, such as being alone or living in crowded communities.
So next time you're looking for an excuse to back out of a social engagement, — preferably one that's not "I'd rather play Pokémon Go tonight" — then have we got the perfect line for you: "I'm just too intelligent."
32. What does the underlined word in paragraph 1 refer to?
A. someone who is intelligent and curious.
B. someone who is quiet and unsociable
C. someone who is active and determined
D. someone who is addicted to the Internet
33. According to the passage, who might be more satisfied with his life?
A. An average person living in a less crowded community.
B. A smart person hanging out with friends at weekends.
C. An average person watching TV alone at home.
D. A smart person living in a thinly-populated area
34. Why is the savanna theory of happiness mentioned in this passage?
A. To inform us why our ancestors needed friends.
B. To explain two seemingly contradictory conclusions.
C. To clarify why smart people prefer to stay alone.
D. To introduce a psychological theory to us.
35. What can we learn from the passage?
A. One’s intelligence might have something to do with his personality.
B. Intelligent brains feel uneasy in crowded communities.
C. People who play Pokémon Go are too intelligent for social engagements
D. Intelligent people are more flexible in unusual circumstances.

Nowadays there is an increasingly number of people who love mountain climbing. Indeed, it is an awesome outdoor sport, which can offer us a chance to get close to the nature. While climbing a mountain, we can enjoy beautiful views along the way and totally relax us after tiring work or study. Besides, it can not only benefit our health but also shapes our character. Moreover, mountain climbing is also likely to cause some negative effects. Some people always threw away empty bottles or garbage bags along the path, which have become a real headache for the cleaners. What’s worse, many forest fires are caused by cigarette end left behind carelessly by some smokers.
To sum up, mountain climbing is a sport worth joining. But we must pay attention to the two problems mention above.

书面表达
One possible version:
Dear Thomas,
I am writing to express my boundless regret and sincere apology, for I have lost The Great Gatsby, the book you lent me last week.
The book was so attractive that I always took it with me. When I was reading it in a café yesterday, it struck me that it was my mother’s birthday. So I ran to a taxi hurriedly, leaving the book behind. It was not until ten minutes later that I realized my carelessness. I rushed back and searched every corner of the café, only to find it had disappeared.
To answer for the consequence, I’d like to compensate you. Would you please tell me the price of the book? Or would you please wait for 2 weeks so that I can buy a new one online? Once again, I am sorry for the inconvenience.
Looking forward to your reply!
Yours,
Li Hua

Text 1
M: What are you making for dinner on Tuesday?
W: I think I’ll make a chicken pot pie. Isn’t that your mom’s favorite dish?
M: You remembered! Unfortunately, she can’t come. My dad and sister will be here, though. (1)
Text 2
M: Liz, congratulations on your anniversary! Are you looking forward to your trip to Hawaii with your husband?
W: Yes, of course. We’ll be there for a whole week. Paul is excited to eat seafood and go hiking. But I’m actually more interested in relaxing by the water all day! (2)
Text 3
M: Welcome to Thailand, Miss O’Malley. (3) Wow! I’ve never seen hair like that before. I thought most people in Ireland had brown hair.
W: Yeah, it’s pretty rare. Only 6% of us have red hair. But in the capital city of Spain where I live now, about 1% of the population has it.
Text 4
W: That’s the end of our first team practice. As you know, the schedules were handed out to you last week during registration, so all that is left is to collect money for uniforms. (4)
M: You said we have a game coming up. When is it?
W: Tomorrow after school.
Text 5
M: The new baby must be keeping you up at all hours of the night.
W: She’s been pretty good since my mother moved in, and she’s sleeping for a longer time at night. It’s my thoughts as a mother that keep me awake at night. (5)
Text 6
W: Can I help you, sir?
M: Yes. I’m here to see the cars.
W: Thank you. We have many brands. Do you have any particular brand in mind?
M: Yes. I want to have a Ford. I need it badly for my work. (6) But I don’t have a lot of money. It must be very expensive, isn’t it?
W: Yes. Look, this model is newly developed and began to appear in the market just several weeks ago in America. It costs 43,800 dollars. But considering the high quality, it’s worth it.
M: That’s why I shall choose it. But I’m afraid that I can’t afford to pay in cash now. Can I pay regularly for the car in a year? (7)
W: Oh, yes. You can pay each month. For the first time, 13,800 dollars, and you must pay the remaining part in 12 months. (7)
M: Thank you. I’ll come back tomorrow.
W: Bye!
Text 7
W: Can you lift the toilet seat up when you go to the bathroom, please? I hate having to clean up after you all the time. (8)
M: Sorry about that. (8) While we’re on the topic, there are a few things you do that have been annoying me lately.
W: Oh, really?
M: Yeah, like when you leave the laundry in the washing machine. It makes the clothes smell
bad.
W: I’m sorry. I’m just busy doing all the chores around the house, since you’re clearly too busy to do any of them yourself.
M: Look, I didn’t want to get into a fight, but you started it.
W: Oh, honey. I’m sorry if I was rude. (9)
M: No, you’re right. I need to start lending more of a hand around here.
Text 8 (第10题为推断题)
W: Oh, my gosh, I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to hit your car. My baby was crying in the back seat. I got a little concerned and took my foot off the brake a bit.
M: That’s okay. It doesn’t look like there is much damage.
W: I guess I should get you my license and insurance information. Hold on a second.
M: Let’s pull over to the side of the road so we can let these people behind us get by. (11)
W: Good idea… OK, here is my information. Should we call the police? Oh, I’ve never been in an accident before. This is going to make my monthly insurance costs go up.
M: I’ll tell you what, I have a scratch on my passenger-side door that will cost me about $100 to get fixed. Why don’t we keep the insurance company out of this? (12)
W: Would you do that? That is so kind. Are you sure you don’t want more? (12)
M: I have kids, and bills to pay too. I know what it’s like.
W: Here, take $150. That’s all I have. (12)
M: Fine.
Text 9
M: I’m here with Margaret Seabrook, the CEO of Creative Toys. In today’s show, we’re going to discuss the hottest new toy of 2017: the Super Spinner. Margaret, welcome!
W: Thank you, Brian. It’s great to be here.
M: OK, so tell us about this new toy. (13)
W: Well, it’s similar to a relaxation ball in its function, (13) but it’s useful for anyone who has problems focusing. (14)
M: So, how does it work?
W: It’s about the size of a cookie, and it has three small round parts that can move in any direction. Basically, you just hold it in between your thumb and middle finger and spin it. That’s it.
M: That’s it?
W: Yeah. It’s very popular not only with children, but with adults as well. (14)
M: A professor at MIT by the name of Jill Meanley has publicly stated there is no scientific or medical evidence for your claims about its benefits. Many schools also have banned the toy, saying it leads to a lack of focus in the classroom. (15)
W: Well, that professor is allowed to have her opinion.
M: Fair enough. And who invented it?
W: Catherine Hettinger, a chemical engineer, was first believed to be its creator, but then we found that an IT professional named Scott McCoskery was the actual inventor. (16)
M: It’s time for a commercial break. More with Margaret Seabrook in a moment.
Text 10
Welcome, everyone, to your first day on the job. My name is Steven, and I’m going to give you a brief introduction to our store and all of its various departments. (17) I’m the assistant manager here at MVP Sports. Normally, our general manager Matt would be taking you through this, (17)
but he won’t be in until tomorrow. Here is where customers pay for their goods, and this is Karen, our head cashier. To the left of me is all our outdoor equipment for fishing, camping, and biking. Down toward the bathrooms, we have our sports section: baseball, basketball, football, soccer, and other sports. (18) To our right is our shoe wall, and through the center of the store is where we sell our clothing. Each area will have a sales manager, and each salesperson will need to have in-depth knowledge of everything in their department. Everyone is expected to keep their section neat and organized. If you are in Shipping and Receiving, please follow Andrew, he will show you how to use the computers to list all our products on the system. (19) Now, Laura will help you fill out a form. (20)
