A ten-year-old boy from Howell, Michigan is being praised as a hero thanks to his persistence that led to saving the life of an elderly neighbor. The event happened late in an evening when Danny Dipietro was being driven home from hockey practice by his mom.
That' s when the young boy noticed an open garage and a figure that he believed was a dog outside an apartment building near his house, Given the freezing cold weather. the young boy got a feeling that something was not right. But instead of dismissing it like most kids his age would have, he insisted that his mother, Dawn, find out what was going on. Dawn tried to make Danny believe that no one would leave a dog out in such cold weather, but he refused to take no for an answer.
Dawn finally gave in and decided to drive to the area with the family dog and see if there was any truth to danny's hunch (直觉) Sure enough, as she got closer to the apartment building she noticed a garage that was wide open and someone waving madly for help. Upon getting there, she realized that it was not a dog the young boy had seen, but Kathleen St Onge. The 80-year-old had fallen down on some ice in her garage and had been lying there for two hours，unable to get up.

Last night I saw a TV documentary about the 1976 Tangshan earth quake in China. I noticed one thing that is common with most natural disasters. The killer disasters come either early in the morning or late at night, when people are either resting or preparing to rest and, unfortunately, when people are least attentive to warning signs.
The Tangshan disaster struck early in the morning when the people were still sleeping.
Many people died in their sleep. Miners were trapped deep below the earth. Some died. Survivors waited in the dark. They hoped that rescuers would come and pull them out. It is a horrible thing to be in a situation where you can do nothing to save yourself.
It seems that, Mather Nature has always attacked us as if she were afraid that we would fight back. Otherwise why would she come only as a thief? I have a story to tell you, This one happened in August 1986 in the villages near Lake Nyos in Cameroons northwest province. Large amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2)gas had been collecting at the bottom of the lake. It was clear that nobody knew about the gas or about how dangerous it was. Suddenly, before dawn on August 26, 1986, a large quantity of gas was released (gave off) from the lake. CO2 is heavier than air, so it spread out over the nearby villages. The blanket of CO2 floated for 25 kilometres. Many people died in their sleep from lack of oxygen(O2). Before sunrise, more than 1, 700 people had lost their lives. And thousands of animals were also killed by the gas. At first scientists believed that the gas was caused by an earthquake or a volcano. However, further studies proved that there had been no volcanic activity. Nobody is very certain how such a large amount of gas was released from the lake. Scientists from the USA, the EU, Japan and Cameroon have been studying the lake for the past twenty years. Yet they still have not found an answer.

Rome, Paris and New York are the world's top fashion cities, all of which have produced some of the top trends, from fashionable skirts to the hottest new shoes. But have you ever wondered about the negative ideas that they have enforced?
In April 2016, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) in Britain banned an ad from
Gucci that featured models dancing around and having fun, because thay were all extremely skinny. Banning ads due to the models' extreme figures isn't new. The ASA banned an ad in 2015 for the same reason. In France, it has been ruled that models are to provide a doctor's note providing that they are at a healthy weight.
So what is the healthy weight for models? Twenty years ago, the average fashion model weighed 8% less than the average woman. Today, they weigh 23 less.
People may think that being at an unhealthy weight will help them gain the benefits that the models do. This provides a standard of beauty, and therefore people who want to achieve those things may attempt to obtain them through unhealthy ways. People may think that they are overweight, due to the images of models' thin figures. They see something wrong with their bodies，whether they are overweight or not. This is a key factor in a lowered body image, low self-es-teem, depression and possibly even eating disorders.
Im not blaming the fashion industry by any means It's not their fault that many people look up to the models and expect to live a life like theirs. I am glad that the ASA is raising its voices when discussing the growing issue of body images in the fashion industry. By banning photos and videos, speaking out against them and pushing for doctor's notes from the models, it's pushing for the ideas that the traditional fashion industry's body image demands should be changed and something more needs to be questioned.

Welcome to Guide Dogs Training Center, boys and girls!First le me tell you something about guide dogs.
In 1918 a doctor and his pet dog walked with a soldier who was blind.The doctor went in the hospital for a short time. When he came out, he saw his pet had guided the soldier on the other side of the hospital yard safely. So he taught the dog to guide a person and it worked out well. Germany helped start a program to teach dogs to be guides.
Dorothy, an American woman, went to Germany to find out more about the guide dogs. When she came back to the United States, she wrote about it in a magazine. Soon more people knew about the guide dogs.
The best dogs for the job are clever and fit. It takes more than two years to train a little dog to be a guide dog. When the dog is 14 months old, it learns many instructions. Then the owner and the dog meet, and they practise for four weeks.
