The low-alcohol drink, or Chu-Hi, is a ‎ watered-down mixture of the Shouchu spirit (日本烧酒 ) plus flavoring. This isn’t the first time Coca-Cola has experimented with flavors and tastes.‎ Not all flavors are successful, but the unique flavors deserve a round of applause. Below are five other unusual Coca-Cola products that were released.‎ Beverly Introduced in 1969, Beverly was an Italian aperitif, designed to be consumed before meals and believed to aid digestion. Competitors like Campari and San Pellegrino led to its discontinuation in 2009. ‎ OK Soda ‎  This product was launched to capture the Generation X market in 1993. In blind taste tests, people generally preferred the new recipe compared to the old. But three months after making the switch, the company announced the return of the classic Coca-Cola.‎ Coca-Cola Plus After more than a decade of research and development, Coca-Cola launched its first ever soda approved by the FOSHU food standard. On Thursday, singer and actress Selena Gomez, 25, used Instagram to explain why she was “laying ‎ low” this summer. She posted a photo of herself in a hospital bed with her friend Francia Raisa holding hands. She said she recently received a kidney transplant from her best friend because of complications (并发症) from lupus(狼疮), an autoimmune disease, which means it is the result of the immune system attacking normal tissue, including the kidneys, brain, heart and lungs.‎ People with lupus may first experience tiredness, joint pain or a little bit of rash (皮疹) on their bodies and can go for a long time before their doctors realize it is more serious. Many people see two or four doctors before the real problem is picked up. According to Dr. Kyriakos Kirou, roughly a third to one-half of people with lupus develop kidney disease, and up to one in five of them will eventually need a transplant, sometimes because they weren’t treated with effective drugs to prevent the immune system from attacking the kidneys. Though Gomez said that she was “very well now,” she warned about the dangers of not taking medical diagnoses seriously, like she initially did. ‎ Her Instagram post also called attention to two major health topics: the need for living organ donators and the fact that Gomez represents three groups more likely to be diagnosed with lupus and lupus-related kidney disease. Nine out of 10 people diagnosed with lupus are women, and most develop the disease between the ages of 15 to 44. And lupus is two to three times more common among women of color, including Hispanic women, according to the Lupus Foundation.‎ Raisa is Latina, and Gomez’s father is of Mexican origin. While it’s not essential that the organ donator and receiver be of the same ethnicity, people who share a similar background sometimes are better matched, according to data from the United Network for Organ Sharing.‎ ‎24. What can we learn about Francia Raisa?‎ A. She is lucky. B. She is selfless.‎ C. She is optimistic. D. She is encouraging.‎ ‎25. What is lupus like at its early stage?‎ A. It is deadly. B. It is hard to recognize.‎ C. Its symptoms are psychological. D. It reminds you of a kidney disease.‎ ‎26. What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 2 refer to?‎ A. People with lupus. B. Colored women lupus patients.‎ C. Lupus patients with kidney disease. D. Women between the ages of 15 to 44.‎ ‎27. What does the last paragraph mainly tell us?‎ A. Raisa and Gomez have a similar background.‎ B. Gomez has fully recovered thanks to the kidney from Raisa.‎ C. It is vital for the donator and receiver to be of the same race.‎ D. The organ from the donator of the same race matches the receiver better.‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ C We humans are a curious species. As NASA says on its website, “Humans are driven to explore the unknown, discover new worlds, push the boundaries of our scientific and technical limits, and then push further.”‎ And space exploration is where we’ve been “pushing” our furthest curiosity.‎ The year 2019 began with two pieces of exciting space exploration news. On Jan 3, China landed a spacecraft, Chang’e 4, on the moon’s far side—the side we can’t see from Earth—for the first time in human history. And according to a report published on Jan 9 in Nature, scientists from the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME) detected repeated radio signals from a galaxy 1.5 billion light years away, possibly sent by intelligent aliens.‎ However, what’s even more exciting than the news is the fact that when it comes to space exploration, we forget our political and cultural differences—the things that so obsess usŒ.‎ ‎“When you go into space, you become part of this overall collective (集体) called ‘humanity’,” Ken Liu, Chinese-American sci-fi writer and translator, told Quartz website. “You’re no longer Chinese, American, Russian … Your culture is left behind. You’re now just ‘humanity’ with a capital ‘H’.”‎ This magic has worked all the way along our journey into space. When US astronaut Neil Armstrong (1930-2012) became the first human to set foot on the moon in 1969, for example, he told the world: “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” Now, with Chang’e 4 touching down on new moon territory, China’s aim is to help scientists from around the world find out more about Earth’s only satellite. And with the discovery of the CHIME astronomers, we’re one step closer to answering a common question in science: “Are humans alone in the universe?”‎ It’s true that we are a curious species. But instead of being curious about the “unknown”, perhaps we’re really more eager to “push further” our own human “boundaries” and “limits”.‎ ‎28. Which of the following is the discovery of the CHIME scientists?‎ A. A galaxy with intelligent aliens.‎ B. Repeated radio signals sent by intelligent aliens.‎ C. Repeated radio signals sent from a distant galaxy.‎ D. Radio signals from a galaxy several years ago.‎ ‎29. Why does the author quote Ken Liu’s words?‎ A. To introduce the famous writer, Ken Liu.‎ B. To show that in space we are just humanity.‎ C. To emphasize that culture is not important.‎ D. To introduce the things that obsess us very much.‎ ‎30. What does the author intend to do in paragraph 6?‎ A. Further confirm his opinion.‎ B. Add some background information.‎ C. Summarize the previous paragraphs.‎ D. Introduce a new topic for discussion.‎ ‎31. What’s the main idea of the text?‎ A. China takes the lead in space exploration.‎ B. Humans are not alone in the universe.‎ C. Space exploration is a common cause of mankind.‎ D. Human desire to push the boundaries of scientific limits. ‎ D The Broadcom MASTERS competition aims to find a balance between celebrating individual accomplishments and acknowledging that science seldom happens alone. The competition takes off when students from around the country are teamed up and have to solve a series of hands-on challenges in the spotlight.‎ Nowadays, kids are fed with “the myth of the lone scientist”, so placing such challenges in the middle school period has a huge potential for impact. The focus on teambuilding skills gets students excited before more fears and stereotypes set in.‎ The initial pool of qualified students comes from the participants in nation-wide science fairs. Those who score in the top 10% (about 10,000 kids) have the qualification to apply. The judges select the top 300 young scientists, and that group is finally narrowed to 30 finalists.‎ Selection at this stage is clearly an honor in itself, but it counts as step one for the finalists. They are then flown to Washington, D.C. and placed into teams of five for the hands-on part of the competition. Each team is made up of students with different talents and skills, including academic focus and experience.‎ Unlike the science fairs, where most of the work takes place behind the scenes and students share a polished outcome, the hands-on challenges create a space where the work is the competition itself. The students take up a range of challenges in science, technology, engineering, math and so on. Each of the challenges will need the insight and skills of multiple team members.‎ Judges observing the challenges aren’t just looking for outcomes but also for leadership, teamwork and problem solving.‎ The Broadcom MASTERS attracts increasing numbers of passionate and talented young people who are eager to take part in a program that helps them grow as scientists, engineers and inventors. It lets the students experience a sense of coming together with true peers. More importantly, it provides them with new skills to tackle future challenges.‎ ‎32. What does the Broadcom MASTERS competition mainly focus on?‎ A. Individual accomplishments. B. Hands-on challenges. ‎ C. Academic performance.                D. Team work.‎ ‎33. What does Paragraph 3 mainly tell us?‎ A. A large number of kids take part in the science fairs.‎ B. It’s not easy to be qualified as a member of the finalists. ‎ C. The judges are too strict with the participants.‎ D. The nation-wide science fairs are well organized.‎ ‎34. What can we infer from the text?‎ A. The Broadcom MASTERS competition has an increasing impact.‎ B. Middle school students prefer to challenge each other.‎ C. Students can learn more new skills from the Broadcom MASTERS.‎ D. The science fairs will be completely replaced by the Broadcom MASTERS.‎ ‎35. What can be a suitable title for the text?‎ A. Learning to Take on Scientific Challenges B. Outstanding Students are Publicly Honored C. Bringing Individual Potential to a Team Opportunity D. The Science Fair: A Platform Where Students’ Dreams Take off ‎ ‎ 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ If you sat up or had a poor night of sleep last night, you know it’s difficult to stay awake in class today. Your teacher’s voice might begin to sound like a lullaby. 36 To keep yourself awake, some tips are worth trying in class.‎ Sit in the front of the room. You’ll also be near the people who are more likely to participate, and the sound of their voices might keep you awake.‎ ‎  38 Ask and answer questions and pay attention to the lecture. Could you explain it again in more detail?”‎ Listen actively to the lesson. Active listening is a great way to force yourself to stay awake because it requires engagement of your mind as well as your body. 40 To effectively listen to your teacher, you should try to maintain eye contact, face the speaker, pay close attention to what the speaker is saying and ask questions during a pause in the lecture.‎ A.
