Obviously, its aim is to raise our awareness of passing on traditional Chinese culture . ‎ It's widely acknowledged that reading benefits us in many ways. Not only can it broaden our horizons but it also deepens our thoughts. Therefore, a series of activities, such as Reading Salon, a Second-hand Book Exchange will take place on that day. ‎ How I wish you could join us! ‎ Yours,‎ Li Hua 听力原文材料 ‎(Text 1)‎ W: It's been raining since Monday, but clear weather is forecast for tomorrow.‎ M: I'm glad to hear that because I always play golf on Thursdays and I like to have good weather.‎ ‎(Text2)‎ W: Ladies and gentlemen, we are passing through some strong wind. For your safety, please remain in your seats with your seat belts fastened. Please place your seats in the upright position.‎ M: What's happening? It's getting worse!‎ ‎(Text 3)‎ M: Ann, I need someone to take me to the airport tomorrow morning. My flight has changed, you know. ‎ W: What time is it?‎ M: 10:40 am. And I'll leave at around 9:00 am.‎ ‎(Text 4)‎ M: Why was Lawrence late for the meting this morning? Did he have to wait for the bus?‎ W: Yes. He had to wait so long for a bus that he finally had to take a taxi.‎ ‎(Text 5)‎ W: Oh, the heat is unbearable! Didn't you turn on the air-conditioner?‎ M: The heat has blown our air-conditioner on the roof! ‎ W: What? So, what are we going to do?‎ M: We've got to have it fixed as soon as possible. I've called somebody and they're on the way.‎ W: Thank God!‎ M: Here you go. You can use the electric fan here. At least you can catch a breeze.‎ ‎(Text 6)‎ M: Excuse me, I am doing a survey. I’d like to know what types of newspaper people often read. Would you mind answering a few questions? ‎ W: No, go ahead.‎ M: Can you tell me where you're from, please?‎ W: Er, I was born in Tokyo and grew up in Rome.‎ M: Oh, sounds interesting. Are you used to living here, in New York City?‎ W: Yes. I’ve been working in a college here for three years.‎ M: Woo, a college teacher. And when do you normally read newspapers?‎ W: Well, I'm busy after going to college, and I usually do experiments in the evening, so I usually read newspapers before having breakfast. ‎ M: Which sections do you prefer?‎ W: I'm mainly interested in information on shopping. Other than that, I also like news.‎ ‎(Text 7)‎ M: Holly, is it possible to borrow your notes? I'll return them tomorrow.‎ W: Sorry, but I’m going to the cafeteria to review them. Say, how about copying them over in the library? ‎ M: OK. I think I've got enough coins for the machines. You're a lifesaver, Holly!‎ W: No problem. But I don't understand why you need my notes, Carter. You haven't missed any classes.‎ M: Weekday mornings, I'm a cashier at a coffee shop downtown. After work, I come directly to school, so…‎ W: Wow, you' re probably exhausted!‎ M: That's exactly why I want to borrow your notes; I've been nodding off during class, so my notes aren't very good.‎ ‎(Text 8)‎ W: Why did you visit Albert Sung last night?‎ M: Albert called me at 1l pm and said he needed to see me urgently.‎ W: What time did you arrive? ‎ M: At about midnight.‎ W: Did you see Albert? Was he waiting for you?‎ M: No, he wasn’t waiting for me, but Jean Young was there. She was working on a report in the dining room. I waited for Albert in the dining room with her.‎ W: What did you do next?‎ M: By the time Jean finished her report, I was feeling impatient, so I went to look for Albert. That was at 12:25 am. I met them when they first came to look at the house.‎ M: Do you know the kids’ names?‎ W: The girl's name is Susan and the boy's is Peter.‎ M: What are we waiting for? Let's go!‎ W: Wait. I think they are very tired from their trip. Give them time to relax and get organized.‎ M: But we could help them carry their things in.‎ W: All right, but be careful not to get in the way.‎ M: Why not bring them something cool to drink? They must be thirsty after their trip.‎ W: That's a good idea. We have mineral water and Pepsi in the fridge.‎ M: Great! We should try our best to make them feel welcome.‎ ‎(Text 10)‎ M: Here are a few tips to make going to an art festival a little more comfortable and fun.‎ Wear comfortable shoes. You will be on your feet a lot. If you are outdoors, plan the weather might become hotter or colder than you expect so dress appropriately and bring along some extra alternatives that are easy to carry. Even indoor events are sometimes a little skewed on the air conditioning or heating levels.‎ Bring a check book. If you do find something you really want, there is a possibility that the artist will not be able to take a credit card.‎ Keep your mind open. Art is an emotional thing and you may discover you fall in love with something you would never have anticipated.‎ Enjoy the art. Art gives us all a chance to look at things from a different perspective. You don't have to like something to appreciate a different view. And you might discover new ways to look at some of the same old subjects. My favorite paintings are those that take me somewhere I have never been before. When I finish at an art show often ‎ feel like I've traveled further than I could ever have gone in a plane, boat or car! How you view art will be your choice. But let yourself go and enjoy the experience.‎
