Signs may include loss of interest or pleasure in most activities, low energy levels and thoughts of death or suicide.‎ In the new study, American investigators designed an experiment that exposed hamsters (仓鼠) to different colors. The researchers chose hamsters because they are nocturnal, which means they ‎ sleep during the day and are active at night.‎ The animals were separated into four groups. One group of hamsters was kept in the dark during their night-time period. Another group was placed in front of a blue light, a third group slept in front of a white light, while a fourth was put in front of a red light.‎ After four weeks, the researchers noted how much sugary Water the hamsters drank. They found that the most depressed animals drank the least amount of water.‎ Randy Nelson heads the Department of Neuroscience (神经系统科学) at Ohio Stale University. He says animals that slept in blue and while light appeared to be the most depressed “What we saw is that these animals didn’t show any sleep uneasiness at all but they did mess up biological clock genes and they dill show depressive sign while if they were in the dim red light, they did not.”‎ Randy Nelson notes that photosensitive (感光的) cells in the eyes have little to do with eyesight. He says these cells send signals to the area of the brain that controls what has been called the natural sleep—wake cycle.‎ He says there’s a lot of blue in white light. On my off-chemo weeks I would go out for a walk around my neighborhood, with a cap on to protect my chemo-bald head from the sun.‎ One afternoon I was walking past a house several doors down from mine: the family who lived there were people with whom I had a “Hi, how are you doing?” kind of acquaintance. But we never really introduced ourselves to each other. This day the man was out working in his yard and as I walked by, he came out to the street and stopped me, saying “I want you to know that my wife and I understand .hat you are going through some kind of illness and that we are praying for you.”‎ I was so touched, and tears came to my eyes, I thanked him for his kind words and then introduced myself. His name was Melvin and his wife was Michelle. A few days later, they stopped by my house and gave me a little basket of inspirational books along with some tea. Again I thanked them for their kindness. Melvin then said that if there was anything they could do to help me, please let them know. I timidly said, “Well, I’d like someone to cut the back of my yard. It’s got quite overgrown and I’m not able to do anything with it right now.” He said that he would be happy to do so.‎ It was a Friday and he came down with his riding mower (割草机) and cut not only the back part, but the front as well and even the edging (边缘) too! One of his neighbor, also came along to help! When I went out to thank him, he said that whenever he cut his own yard, he would be sure to come down and cut mine too.‎ True to his word, he did so every 2-3 weeks until I was done with the chemo and had got back enough strength to start doing it myself again. Single dog-owning adults who lived alone wire Ⅱ percent less likely to develop heart disease afterwards and 33 percent less likely to die than non-dug owners, the analysis found.‎ ‎“It’s not clear exactly how the dogs helped prevent heart disease, or whether getting one directly led to better health,” warned Tove Fall, the senior author of the paper and associate ‎ professor in epidemiology at Uppsala University. “It’s possible that clog owners are healthier and more active before they get a dog companion,” she said.‎ ‎“We know that dog owners in general have a higher level of physical activity, which could be one explanation for the observed results,” said Fall. “Other explanations include an increased well-being and social contacts or effects of the dog on the bacterial microbiome (细胞微生物)in the owner.”‎ ‎32.
