阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C 和D 四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

You've just finished a heavy meal and are full up. Suddenly, your host announces proudly that he will be serving his “house specialty” dessert, bananas flambe and that he has spent the better part of the afternoon preparing it. Even though you are foil and don’t even like bananas, you accept a serving of his dessert and eat it all.
Clearly, biological factors do not fully explain our eating behavior. Social factors, based on societal rules and on what we have learned about appropriate eating behavior, also play an important role. Take, for example, the simple fact that people customarily eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at approximately the same times every day. Because we tend to eat on schedule every day, we feel hungry as the usual hour approaches.
Similarly, we put roughly the same amount of food on our plate every day, even though the amount of exercise we may have had, and consequently our need for energy supply, varies from day to day. We also tend to prefer particular food over others. Rats and dogs may be a delicacy in certain Asian cultures, but few people in Western cultures find them appealing despite their potentially high nutritional value. In sum, cultural influences and our individual habits play important roles in determining when, what, and how much we eat.
Other social factors relate to our eating behavior as well. Some of us head toward the refrigerator after a difficult day, seeking comfort in a scoop of Heath Bar Crunch ice cream. Perhaps when we were children, our parents gave us food when we were upset. Eventually, we may have learned to associate food with comfort. Similarly, we may learn that eating, which focuses our attention on immediate pleasures, provides an escape from unpleasant thoughts. Consequently,we may eat when we feel upset and anxious.
21. What causes you to accept the host's dessert offer at the end of the meal?
A. Your hunger. B. The host’s pride.
C. The pleasant taste. D. Social politeness.
22. The author explains the factors in eating mainly by .
A. making a comparison. B. using examples.
C. analyzing the data. D. undertaking a survey.
23. Which of the following might be the best title for the text?
A. Social Factors in Eating. B. Causes of Hunger.
C. Table Manners at Meals. D. Cultural Differences in Eating.
Many people prefer eating out instead of cooking at home. A change appears to be taking place, though, and millennials are leading the way. According to one survey, more young people are starting to cook at home for three basic reasons: They can save money, eat healthy and waste less food.
Popular TV chefs are also getting millennials excited about learning some basic cooking skills. Many millennials view cooking as a form of entertainment and self- expression. They proudly post pictures of their cooking creations on Facebook or Instagram, and invite friends over to share the cooking experience.
Many millennials have also found ways to avoid wasting food. After roasting a chicken, they put the leftover bones in their freezer instead of the garbage can. Later, they use the bones to make chicken stock which is an important ingredient in many dishes.
They also hate throwing out fruit that's too old. To avoid that situation, they bake ripe fruit like berries and bananas for 15 minutes at 175 degrees c. Then they freeze it overnight. After that, they place the fruit in plastic bags and store it their freezer for later use.
Now any millennials only eat at restaurants that have excellent food-waste policies. These servants use every part of the vegetables they buy, including their stems and. rots, in dishes, They also use beef, chicken and pork bones to make their own stock.
Millennials also reduce food waste by only buying what they require. Before going to a market, they write down what they need and don't buy anything else. They way they won't purchase more food than they can consume.
56. What is the main subject of this article?
A. A cooking trend that has attracted millennials.
B.A plan that mllennials have for donating food.
C.A novel cooking technique that millennials like.
D. A food production system favored by millennials.

A. Mix it with other ingredients in a bowl.
B. Carefully remove the skin and seeds from it.
C. Use a sharp knife to chop it up into pieces.
D. Put it in an oven at the proper temperature.
58. According to this article, when do millennials make careful choices?
A. When they dine out together
B. Whey they vote for candidates
C. When they choose an employer
D. When they plant a new garden

The Haleakalā Movement, which has affected the Hawaiian people, involved many Hawaiian activists
peacefully protesting(抗议) against the construction of the Daniel K. Solar Telescope atop Haleakalā. The
top of Haleakalā is a very sacred piece of land to Hawaiians. The problem is the leveling out of Haleakalā
to structurally support the base of the telescope. Hawaiians could not watch their sacred land atop their
mountain destroyed.
The goal of the protesters was to stop the movement of the trucks hauling(拖拽)telescope parts to the
top of Haleakalā. At each event, protesters would march on the crosswalk in front of the base yard entrance
holding signs that read “Aloha „Āina” and “Kūʻē,” meaning Love the Land and Resist respectively. When
the trucks started their engines, several protesters lay down in the driveway, with their arms linked together
with PVC pipes. Twenty of them were arrested.
I, as a youth of this generation, am a part of those Hawaiians who stood against the construction of the
telescope and the destruction of our sacred mountain. I experienced first-hand and through social media
what happened at each protest. Each of the protests that I attended took place at the Maui Base yard,
however, there were others that took place atop Haleakalā. Most of the protesters marching were of Maui
roots, but there were other protesters that came from different islands to show their support for the natives‟
stand against the destruction of our sacred mountain.
Following all that I had experienced these days, I left with the understanding that the youth of our
generation have a very important role. Our role is to learn from the mistakes of the present and guide the
world down the right path allowing it to grow and prosper. We, as the seeds of the present, must grow to
protect the history of the human race, but at the same time prevent ourselves from repeating the actions and
decisions that may have once destroyed us in the past. We, the youth, are the key to the prosperity of the
future.
28. What caused the Haleakalā Movement?
A. That the sacred top of the mountain would be leveled out.
B. That local Hawaiians stopped the trucks from going uphill.
C. That twenty local Hawaiians protesters were arrested by the police.
D. That the rainforests on Mt. Haleakalā were seriously destroyed.
29. From the passage, the writer learned __________.
A. all Hawaiian young people should participate in the movement
B. it is important to protect the environment in Hawaii rainforest
C. local Hawaiian culture is more important than the advanced technology
D. young people are an important factor for tomorrow‟s prosperity
30. The writer is probably __________.
A. a teenage student B. a school teacher
C. a government official D. a policeman

It was summer, and my dad wanted to treat me to a vacation like never before. He decided to take me on a trip to the Wild West.
We took a plane to Albuquerque, a big city in the state of New Mexico. We reached Albuquerque in the late afternoon. Uncle Paul, my dad’s friend, picked us up from the airport and drove us up to his farm in Pecos.
His wife Tina cooked us a delicious dinner and we got to know his sons Ryan and Kyle. My dad and I spent the night in the guestroom of the farm house listening to the frogs and water rolling down the river nearby. Very early in the morning, Uncle Paul woke us up to have breakfast. "The day starts at dawn on my farm," he said. After breakfast, I went to help Aunt Tina feed the chickens. while my dad went with Uncle Paul to take the sheep out to graze(吃草). I was impressed to see my dad and Uncle Paul riding horses. They looked really cool.
In the afternoon, I asked Uncle Paul if I could take a hose ride, and he said yes, as long as my dad went with me. I wasn’t going to take a horse ride by myself anyway. So, my dad and I put on our new cowboy hats, got on our horses, and headed slowly towards the mountains. "Don’t be late for supper," Uncle Paul cried, "and keep to the track so that you don’t get lost!" "OK! " my dad cried back. After a while Uncle Paul and his fam house were out of sight. It was so peaceful and quiet and the colors of the brown rocks, the deep green pine trees, and the late afternoon sun mixed to create a magic scene. It looked like a beautiful woven(编织的)blanket spread out upon the ground just for us.
