People usually visit cafes to ease themselves of their tiredness and keep themselves
from falling asleep, but Mr. Healing, a popular cafe chain in South Korea actually does the opposite. Customers can come in, order a drink, lie down in a comfortable massage chair, and take a nap.
Many Koreans suffer from a lack of sleep as a result of overworking, so any opportunity to relax and even take a nap is greatly appreciated. Mr. Healing is the perfect place to go when you’re on a short work or school break and you need to catch up on sleep. The cafe offers massage periods in various modes, depending on how much time you have and how you choose to spend it.
The 20-minute session is priced at $3.5, the 30-minute massage $7, and the 50-minute session $9, and all of them also include a drink. Once you make your choice, you are taken to the "healing center”. You are asked to take off your shoes as well as any jewelry that might damage the chairs, after which you can choose a massage mode, from “stretch” or “sleep”. You can start with stretch for a few minutes, and then switch to sleep if you want to take a short nap. After it comes to an end, you are taken back to the cafe area to enjoy a coffee or one of the many other refreshing drinks on the menu.
Mr. Healing cafes are so popular in Korea that customers are advised to make reservations in advance to be sure that a massage chair is available. “I have to sit on a chair and stare at a computer monitor all day due to my job; the healing room is truly effective at relieving tiredness and stress from weekdays,” said Park Hye-sun, a 24-year-old office worker.
Some have described Mr. Healing and other similar relaxation cafes in South Korea as passing fashions, but others see them as a sustainable business model, because they offer a service that Koreans really need.
24. Why do customers come to Mr. Healing?
A. To drink special tea. B. To sleep before work.
C. To find some relaxation. D. To take physical exercise.
25. What is the third paragraph mainly about?
A. The price of the service.
B. The process of the service.
C. Tips for choosing a massage mode.
D. The influences of the “healing centre”.
26. What is Park’s attitude to Mr. Healing?
A. Ambiguous. B. Suspicious. C. Cautious. D. Favorable.
27. What can we infer about Mr. Healing?
A. It's aimed at students in need of sleep.
B. It has been satisfying Koreans needs.
C. It isn’t highly thought of by the media.
D. It is a perfect symbol of Koreans modern life.

Marie Tharp was born in Ypsilanti, Mich, on July 30, 1920, into a mapping family. Her father William Edgar Tharp, was a soil surveyor for the United States Department of Agriculture, and the Tharps went to wherever his work took him. Ms Tharp once said that by the time she graduated from high school, she had attended two dozen public schools across the country.
She received a bachelor’s degree in English and music from Ohio University in 1943, followed the next year by a master’s degree in geology from the University of Michigan. While working as a geologist for an oil company in Oklahoma, Ms Tharp earned a degree in mathematics from the University of Tulsa in 1948. That year, she joined Columbia University’s geology department as a research assistant to the well-known scientist Maurice Ewing. Bruce C. Heezen, who went on to become a leading geologist and oceanographer, was a graduate student there, and he and Ms. Tharp would share their professional and personal lives for the next three decades.
Before the mid-20th century, little was known about the ocean bottom. In 1949, Mr. Ewing and his team started a quest to map the sea floor using sonar soundings (声呐探测). Because a research ship was considered no fit place for a woman, Ms. Tharp, working with pen and ruler, plotted the data back in Palisades. With Mr Heezen, Ms. Tharp compiled the first comprehensive map of the entire ocean bottom, shedding light on a hidden world of huge cracks and valleys, and volcanic ranges stretching for thousands of miles. It was published in 1977.
In his book “The Mapmakers”, John Noble Wilford, a science reporter, described their achievement this way: "Like other pioneering maps, the one by Heezen and Tharp is not complete and not always completely accurate. It is, however, one of the most remarkable achievements in modern cartography(制图学). It is the summary of more than a century of oceanographic effort.”
Ms. Tharp’s work in plotting the ocean’s bottom would also help gain acceptance for the theory of continental drift (大陆漂移), still an unpopular theory when she and Mr. Heezen began their cooperation in the late 1940s.
28. What do we learn about Tharps family?
A. They loved traveling. B. They moved too often.
C. They were quite wealthy. D. They farmed for a living.
29. When did Tharp start to work with Heezen?
A. In1943. B. In1944. C. In1948. D. In1949.
30. What does the author say about the map in Paragraph 3?
A. It was completed on a research ship.
B. It went against the theory of continental drift.
C. It was aimed at protecting natural habitats on the sea floor.
D. It was based on Ewing and his team s studies.
31. How did Wilford look at the map?
A. He admired it. B. He tolerated it.
C. He was cautious about it. D. He was doubtful about it.

Sea turtles are one of several species that have temperature-dependent sex determination. The number of female babies increases when nests are made in warmer sands.
A recent study by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, California State University and Worldwide Fund for Nature Australia examined two genetically distinct populations of green sea turtles living in the Great Barrier Reef. The study found that a group of about 200,000 turtles living in the northern part of the reef
was almost entirely female.
While the southern population was 65 to 69 percent female, females in the northern group accounted for 99.1 percent of young turtles and 86.8 percent of adults.
After combining their results with temperature data, the scientists in charge of the study found that the northern green turtles have been producing mainly females for more than two decades and that the complete feminization of this population is possible in the near future.
The temperature at which the turtles will produce male or female babies can be passed on to the turtles' children. Most sea turtle populations are now producing offspring above the most suitable temperature, making it clear that climate change poses a serious threat to the survival of these populations.
The chief executive of World Wildlife Fund Australia, Dermot O'Gorman, said this is another sign of the impact of climate change, following recent search that shows that coral bleaching(珊瑚白化) events are occurring far more frequently than in the past.
“We’ve had two years where we’ve had mass bleaching events on the Great Barrier Reef" he told Guardian Australia. “That’s a very visible sign of the impact of climate change. But this is a quiet change. We can't see the impact it's having on a turtle population until a study like this shows some long-term trends.”
The lead author of the paper, Dr Michael Jensen, said the findings represent a major environmental conservation issue.
O’Gorman said more urgent action on climate change is clearly needed, adding that some conservationists have already taken practical measures, such as using shade cloth on turtle nesting beaches to lower the sand temperature, and reducing bycatch in the fishing industry.
“Shade cloth can be used in certain places, but there’s a limit to the scale you can do that,” he said.
“Now every large male who can reproduce is going to be even more important.”
32. According to the research on Great Barrier Reefs green sea turtles,______.
A. about 65 to 69 percent of northern turtles are female
B. 86.8 percent of southern turtles have grown up to adults
C. the feminization of green sea turtles could become worse
D. adult green sea turtles can change their sex in warmer places
33. Why did O'Gorman mention coral bleaching?
A. To emphasize that climate change poses more risks to coral than turtles.
B. To compare the living environments of turtles and coral.
C. To urge people to take practical measures to fight climate change.
D. To stress this discovery about green sea turtles is very valuable.
34. Conservationists are taking action to______.
A. keep the sea turtles' nests cool
B. stop the illegal fishing of green sea turtles
C. expand the size of the green sea turtles nesting places
D. establish places for turtles to produce offspring
35. Which would be the best title for the article?
A. How climate change affects ocean creatures.
B. Invisible change caused by global warming exposed.
C. Necessity of protecting green sea turtles and their habitat.
D. Global green sea turtle populations in greater danger.

She called it her “Moana rock”, because it reminded 63 (she) of the spiral-shaped amulet (护身符) from the animated Disney movie.
