All theme parks in Britain have cafes, restaurants, picnic areas and gift shops, so you'll still have plenty to see and do when you and the kids have been on enough rides. There are usually smaller “unfair” rides and games as well, so younger children won't get bored. Several theme parks also have other attractions next to them, e.g. water parks often open all year round, unlike the theme parks.‎ ‎ Whenever you are in Britain, there's likely to be a theme park within one or two hours’ drive, bus ride or train journey. Several theme parks even have accommodation(住宿) so you can stay for a day for two if you want to make a trip into a short holiday.‎ ‎ Prices for UK theme parks differ a lot: some have an entrance price which allows you to go on all the rides, while in others you have to pay for every ride separately. It can also make a difference whether you go during peak time or not. For example, tickets always cost more during school holidays and weekends than they do during the weekdays.‎ Theme parks always get very busy during the summer months, so if you don’t like crowds, it is usually a good idea to go earlier or later in the year!‎ ‎ If you're thinking of visiting a UK theme park, it's worth having a look for special offers on tickets. Products such as chocolate bars and cereals sometimes have “buy one get one free” offers on theme park tickets, so keep a look out in shops and supermarkets.‎ ‎21. What can’t you do in the theme park according to the passage?‎ A. Have lunch. B. Have a skiing. ‎ C. Enjoy special offers. D. Stay for the night.‎ ‎22. What should you do if you are tired of crowds in the theme park?‎ A. Avoid the busiest months. B. Go there when no one is in it. ‎ C. Choose one with few visitors. D. Go earlier or later in the daytime.‎ ‎23. What is the passage intended to do?‎ A. Introduce famous theme parks. ‎ B. Introduce the theme parks in the UK. ‎ ‎ C. Tell the readers the prices of theme parks.‎ D. Tell the readers tips for visiting the theme park.‎ B Tenzing left his home when he was ten to work and help his mother, who was looking after their 2-acre ancestral farm after his father’s death. He did temporary(临时的)jobs for the first few years and then joined a Malaysian construction(建筑)firm, where he learnt to drive, repair machines, work on the Internet and even speak English fluently.‎ ‎“In those 13 years,I learnt everything—driving, mechanic work, and how to set up a small factory. This made me gain much confidence to do almost all jobs,” says Tenzing.‎ However, as his mother was getting older, on December 12, 2006, Tenzing returned to his hometown in Assam. Having visited several farms, he came to know that tea could be easily exported and many tea companies were buying tea; so he also decided to grow tea on his farm. But as his family had never grown tea, he had no idea how to do it.‎ Without specialized knowledge in this field, Tenzing went to meet with many tea experts and followed their instructions. But whenever he used pesticide (农药)on his farm, he’d get a headache and feel indisposed. So he started looking for other choices, Tenzing did his research online and finally in 2007, he connected with people from a Canadian non-governmental organization and invited them to his farm, where they trained him. Thus, Tenzing started growing tea organically.‎ Today Tenzing has 25 acres of land, in which 7.5 acres is used for tea planting, and he grows almost all types of fruits and vegetables. His success inspired many, and ‎ farmers from other parts of the country also started coming to his farm to learn organic farming. He has trained about 30,000 farmers so far. Every year almost 100 tourists visit his farm from many parts of the world like the UK, Australia, Germany, etc.‎ ‎24. Why did Tenzing want to grow tea on his farm?‎ A. His mother was getting older. B. Tea sold very well at that time.‎ C. His land was best for tea growth. D. He was tired of temporary jobs.‎ ‎25. What does the underlined word “indisposed” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?‎ A. Unfair. B. Prepared. C. Touched. D. Uncomfortable.‎ ‎26. Which of the following could be the best title of this passage?‎ A. A Hot Tourist Attraction in Assam B. The Biggest Tea Farm in Assam C. Assam, A Success in Tea Exports D. Tenzing, Assam’s First Organic Tea Farmer ‎ C A culture's values can be mirrored by its humor. Humor has been evaluated(评估) by many great minds such as Thomas Hobbes, who, in "On Nature", disliked humor, "Laughter is nothing else but sudden pleasure arising from sudden thought of feeling far better than others." He thought humor to be a negative(消极的) quality of human narrow-mindedness.‎ However, Mordechai Gordon, PhD of Education, insists, "Humor allows us to view the world from an position that is amusing rather than serious."I agree with Gordon. Learning to look at the world through humor is important.‎ In the United States, every four years an election occurs. Without humor as a way to express their feelings, how would Americans be willing to support the election? Television shows like "The Daily Show" have become important parts of American culture. They are mothering the common people by unknowingly inputting politics into our mouths. They make politics fun.‎ Of course, politics is only one type of humor. Social humor helps people through the twists and turns of the human condition. American pop culture encourages an unhealthy self image. On the topic of self-image, Hari Kondabolu stands out. He has a joke about the popular musical group "The Pussycat Dolls", describing their hit song "Don't Cha" as a negative representation of women. He points out an obvious illegal activity in American culture.‎ A study from Loyola University of Maryland has shown that humor is one determining reason for selecting a mating partner(配偶). Among other things, mates look for an outstanding funny bone in a potential(潜在的) partner.‎ Of course, humor is not always used for good purposes. Humor can be linked to rudeness and racism, but, like everything else, it has potential to unite human beings by allowing us to laugh at ourselves, our failures and our connection with one another.‎ Though life may seem hard and depressing at times, all I have to do is look in the mirror at my increased lines on my skin to know that there is a comedy out there that even Chaplin didn’t realize.‎ With that in mind, remember to laugh with humanity and sometimes at humanity.‎ ‎27. According to Hobbes, humor_______.‎ A. resulted in narrow-mindedness of human beings B. was for people to view the world from another angle C. was only a way to laugh at others to make oneself feel better D. had the power to mirror personal pleasure and national values ‎28. What is the author's attitude towards political humor?‎ A. Appreciative. B. Curious. C. Disappointed. D. Worried.‎ ‎29. How is the fourth paragraph developed?‎ A. By example. B. By process. C. By comparison. D. By experiment.‎ ‎30. What can we learn from the last two paragraphs?‎ A. Never be the one who laughs at other people.‎ B. Chaplin didn’t realize that he was laughed at.‎ C. The author feels helpless and sad about getting older. ‎ D. The author is determined to face life with a sense of humor.‎ 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Each Indian tribe(部落) had a different language. Many Indians never learned any language except their own. Do you know how Indians from different tribes talked to ‎ each other? They had two ways to talk without sound. One way was by sign language and the other way by signals.‎ ‎ 31 . Indians used sign language when they met strangers. In this way, they could find out whether the stranger was a friend or an enemy. In the Indian sign language, signs were made with the hands. Indians usually used signals when they wanted to send messages to someone far away. To make signals, an Indian might use a small horse. 32 . Or he might use smoke, a mirror or fire arrows.‎ To signal that he had seen many animals, an Indian rode his small horse in a large circle. 33 . Or he tried to get the attention of a person far away. But he also used it to send messages in code(代码). In 1958, Berry opened his own music club, but he never stopped writing music. Throughout the 1960s, he wrote a bunch of popular songs including You Can Never Tell, Promised Land, and Dear Dad.
