Cover Price: $19.80 Price: $15.00($2.50 / issue (期) )
You save: $4.80 (24%) Review: By Pat Kane
I absolutely love Bark magazine! I love the “smiling” pages and the tips on every issue. I am a dog lover and have saved all of my dogs from either death row or from people who were going to put them down. Everyone should have a chance to live and Bark stresses that with its articles. This magazine is a MUST HAVE for any dog lover!!
Dog Fancy
Cover Price: $54.00 Price: $14.99 ($1.25 / issue)
You save: $39.01 (72%) Review: By Berner Mom
Don't waste your money on this magazine. 60-70 percent of it are advertisements, and the articles offer little useful information. It might be suitable for children, but not adults who are serious about educating themselves about dogs.
Dog World
Cover Price: $48.88 Price: $14.99 ($1.25 / issue)

Dog World has many very interesting and thought-provoking (令人思考的) articles for people involved in dog showing, breeding(饲养), performance events, etc. However, over half of the magazine is devoted to breeder ads, which is boring. Still, as a whole, I recommend(推荐) it for the articles. Good articles, but tons of ads.

We human beings haven’t been good friends to animals. For thousands of years, we have been polluting the environment, making it hard for animals to live on the planet. We have been killing animals for their fur, feathers or meat, or simply because they are dangerous. As a result, many kinds of animals have disappeared forever. Hundreds more are on the endangered list today.
Should we care about animals? Of course we should. If animals of a certain kind all disappear, they will never come back again. Animals are more than just resources of things we need. Every kind of animal has its place in the balance of nature. Destroying any kind of animal can lead to many problems. For example, when farmers killed large numbers of hawks(鹰), the corn and grain that the farmers stored were destroyed by rats and mice. Why? Because hawks eat rats and mice. With less and less hawks to keep down their numbers, rats and mice multiplied(繁殖) quickly. And if people kill too many birds, more and more insects will eat the crops.
Luckily, we’ve realized that we shouldn’t kill animals any more. And people are working hard to save those animals that would disappear soon. The government also passed laws to protect the endangered animals. In fact, quite a few countries have passed such laws. These laws forbid the killing of any kind of animal on the endangered list. We should try our best to protect and save the endangered animals.
25. The text calls on us to__________.
A. protect the endangered animals.
B. find out more about the balance of nature.
C. keep animals grow quickly.
D. protect the environment.
26. The example that farmers killed hawks shows that__________.
A. there were too many rats and mice
B. animals are very beautiful and interesting.
C. every kind of animal is important in nature .
D. animals are good food resources
27. What is the author’s attitude towards the future of endangered animals ?
A. Doubtful B. Uncaring C. Optimistic D. Negative

Time spent in a bookshop can be most enjoyable, whether you are a book lover or just go there to buy a book as a present. You may even have entered the shop just to find shelter from a sudden shower.Whatever the reason is ,you can soon get lost in reading . You soon become attracted in some book or other, and usually it is only much later that you realize you have spent far too much time there and must rush off to keep some forgotten appointment(约会)-without buying a book,of course.
This opportunity to escape the realities of everyday life is,I think, the main attraction of a bookshop. There are not many places where it is possible to do this. A music shop is very much like a bookshop. You can wander round such a place freely. If it is a good shop,no assistant will walk close to you with the greeting "Can I help you, sir?" You needn't buy anything you don't want. In a bookshop an assistant should stay in the background until you have finished reading. Then, and only then, are his services necessary.
Once, a medical student had to read a textbook which was far too expensive for him to buy. He couldn’t get it from the library and the only copy he could find was in a certain bookshop. Every afternoon, therefore, he would go along to the shop and read a little of the book at a time. One day, however, he was disappointed to find the book missing from its usual place. He was about to leave, when he noticed the owner of the shop beckoning to him. Expecting to be told off, he went towards him. To his surprise, the owner pointed to the book which was hidden in a corner. “I put it there in case someone else bought it!” he said, and left the delighted student to continue his reading.
32. The author thinks that the assistant in a bookshop should .
A. keep asking customers what they need
B. greet customers pleasantly and warmly
C. help the readers to find the books they want
D. avoid bothering the customers when they are reading
33. The underlined part “beckoning to” (Paragraph 3) probably means .
A. waving to B. keeping an eye on C. shouting at D. laughing at
34. The owner of the bookshop was described as .
A. outgoing B. helpful C. selfish D. strict
35. The author told a story in the last paragraph to .
A. show us an example of a good bookshop
B. tell us the importance of reading
C. attract customers into the bookshop
D. describe a poor student’s life

Are you new to experiencing relationships? Well, let me give you advice on how to have a healthy relationship with your partners.
Be an honest person with them. Don't hide things from them, and don't lie. Don't be afraid to say things that aren't very flattering about yourself. Getting them to trust you is the most important element in any relationship. If there's no trust, there's nothing there. 36

Make sure you are encouraging to your partners. Always be willing to help them and give them honesty and positive at the time. Make them feel you are someone they can really count on (指望)and build a future with. 38
Make sure you have a good sense of humor with them. Laughter is the key to happiness. Laugh a lot with them, and joke with them. Laughter may seem silly, but it's the secret to a lot in life. It will keep the sparks alive. 39
Make sure the communication is good. This usually goes along with trust,so always communicate how you feel even if it's something that upsets you. 40 If they did something that made you unhappy, tell them about it in a respectful manner. It's important to communicate this to them, not to keep it bottled up.

第二节 语法填空(共10小题:每小题1.5分,满分15分)
阅读下面材料,在空白处填入适当内容(1个单词)或括号内单词的正确形式(不超过3个单词)。
Do you like trying different things? Are you afraid 61 things that you think you’re bad at?
Last year I started to learn Tai Chi (太极)in order to improve my health and reduce my stress. It was something new for me, and I found it to be quite difficult, very 62 (difference) from anything I’d ever learned before. Small 63 (move) are important in Tai Chi. I was used to being fast and active , 64 to learn Tai Chi I had to learn patience. Now I’ve found that I’m a much more patient person than before, and Tai Chi isn’t nearly as difficult as it 65 (be ) before.
We tend 66 (like) things we are good at — that’s normal. For example, I’m naturally very good at badminton and tennis, but I’m very bad at anything 67 involves keeping balance, such as skating, skiing and gymnastics. Tai Chi has 68 (great) improved my balance which has been a very good thing for me.
My point is that you can keep 69 (do) the things you know you’re good at and live in your comfort zone, or you can try something new. If you don’t try new things, you’ll never know what it would be like to try something new to challenge 70 (you). It will definitely pay off in the end.

(Text 10)
I saw a really good video last night when I was taking care of the kids. My sister asked me to look after my two nieces for a couple of hours while she went to the doctor's. They're both nine yearsold; they’re twins. I know they love watching films, so on my way to my sister’s house I went to the video shop and rented a “Walt Disney Classics” video. I saw it myself 20 years ago when I was their age, so I was sure they’d enjoy it, and I was right. My nieces love dogs and the film is about two dogs. They sat in front of the TV for over an hour without moving! It ’s a complex love story because one of the dogs lives in the rich part of town and is very carefully looked after and has everything a dog could want, but the other is a street dog which lives on the poor side of town and has nothing. So it's a bit like Romeo and Juliet! Although there are some sad moments when my nieces both cried, there's a happy ending. Everybody who’s seen the film always remembers the last scene.
