than a quirk (怪癖) in modern times I, an experienced letter writer. can tell you

we didn’t see before. And we are 22 to show our emotions fully.
If I am here to tell you why I love writing letters, one of the 23 would
be its sense of touch-feeling of my hand running through the pages, feeling of pen
sliding across the paper, and feeling of the 24 of ink (墨水) in the air.
It 25 that both your words and the letter itself can help you express your
feelings. Letters build a bridge between the writer and receiver. People experience
more when they receive messages in the: form of a letter, rather than any other media.3

(an extract from a detective story)
…
"Sit down, " Henderson said, sitting down in an armchair himself and looking
at Logan. "What are you here for?"
"I understand you had a parry last night" said Logan, a police officer.
"Yes," said Henderson, "Oh! I hope the neighbours haven’t been complaining
about the noise again. "
"Not that I know of." said Logan. "But a young girl, Fran. who came to the patty
hasn't been home yet"
"Fran" said Henderson. "Yes, she was here. She left early, as I remember-about
one o'clock. I happened to notice what the time was when she came to say goodbye.
But nobody else left until about four in the morning."
Henderson looked quite relaxed.
"Did you know Clare?" asked Logan suddenly.
"Oh, God!" Henderson sat forward. "You don't think ... the same thing has
happened to Fran?"
"We're keeping an open mind," said Logan, watching him carefully, "but we're
giving it our full attention."
Well, yes. I can understand that. " replied Henderson, getting comfortable in
the armchair again.
"So," repeated Logan, "did you know Clare?"
"Well, sure. I knew who she was. But we never had anything do with each other."
Said Henderson, giving Logan a big smile.
"Who else was at your party?" asked Logan.
"People from the university," said Henderson. "Students, teachers."
"David?" asked Grant, Logan's partner.
"Yes, David was here for a time." Henderson smiled again. "But he's not really
a party animal. He probably left early."
"What do you mean, probably?" asked Grant. Henderson looked at Grant. Grant 5
was sixty with thick black hair and a large moustache. His clothes, as always, looked
rather old: a blue jacket and grey trousers. He did not look much of a party animal
either.
"Well, I don't check when my guests arrive and leave," said Henderson. "And some
people just leave when they want to go home. They don't come and say goodbye. Anyway,
sometimes I can be difficult to find." Again he looked at Logan, raised his eyebrows
and gave her a big smile. "I sometimes end up in the bedroom"

Some researchers explain how most people form their social groups with people
of their age. Especially, as children and teenagers, even adults, people make their
friends based on proximity ( 邻近) more than anything else. Even in a college
classroom, the students may not make friends with those who have similar
personalities and interests. It's the people they really sit next to. Clearly, who
stands to you has the greatest influence on you. As Jim Rohn has widely said. "You
are average (平均) of five people you spend the most little with."
Over the past ten months, I've paid Ryan, it Famous writer of several bestselling
books, to help with the book I'm writing. Working with him has shown me just how
low my standards for my work are. For example, every time I send him a drab (草稿),
he shows me how it could be 10 times better, and he holds me to that standard.
___▲ It's because that I don't know what I don't know. Working with Ryan
has made me realize what is possible and what it takes to create something powerful.
Like Ryan, my business partner Richard has wonderful ideas and far different
experience than I have. He has written 36 New York Times Bestsellers. He's been
speaking and doing events for 20 years. Richard always performs at high levels, and
he is also very strict with me because my performance is a reflection
(反映) on him. It's not a bad thing because it creates high pressure (压力) to help
me make great progress in organizing author training.
In a word, you need to stay with those people who can help you realize your level
and potential. Staying with people who have higher standards is the fastest way for
you to change. If you don't change your environment, your progress will be very
slow. Who you stay with has huge importance. You can't ignore this.6
32. Why did the writer quote (引用) Jim Rohn's words in Paragraph 1?
A. To support the writer's opinion. B. To introduce the writer's best
friend.
C. To show Jim Rohn's working ability. D. To prove Jim Rohn is a great person.
33. Which of the following can be put at the beginning of Paragraph 3?
A. It's not that my workmates' abilities are low.
B. It's not that my working ability was born low.
C. It's not that' e friends based on proximity.
D. It's not that I’ve paid Ryan to help me with my book.
34. What does the underlined word "it" in Paragraph 4 refer to (指代)?
A. The writer's performance. B. Jim Rohn's famous saying.
C. Richard’s different experience. D. Richard’s strictness with the
writer.
35. The writer mainly wants to tell us that ________________.
A. we can improve our working abilities by ourselves
B. we must pay attention to our talent and potential
C. we’d better make friends with those who can hold us to higher levels
D. we should stay with those who have similar personalities and interests

As I entered an international high school, all my friends felt surprised at my 7
short hair. This is because, my old school thinks teenage y 46 aren’t the time
for looking pretty. Then I coloured my hair blue. For the first time, I felt free
and beautiful. This international school s 47 to meet my needs.
I had a t 48 education background. I went to public schools, received normal
(常规的) education and was required to follow r 49 like every other student. Later,
I began to wonder w 50 this education was truly suitable for me.
However, in the new school my high hopes were not met. For a while, I found myself
in a surprising situation as I faced before. It was s 51 the biggest challenge
I faced in my education-the freedom to try new things. In the old system, I was
strongly advised a 52__ trying new things. But in my new school, it worked the
opposite way-we had many chances to try new things. But if I f 53 , I must be
responsible (负责任的) because I put myself in such risk. Finally, it led me to get
into trouble again.
As time went by, I started to find my o 54 balance. In fact, none of the
education systems in the world are perfect. I am l 55 enough to have a chance
to bring great value from both systems together. As a result, I've built a system
for myself.

A
Our feelings influence almost every decision we make. Instead of living a boring
life, positive (积极的) feelings can help us a lot. The pity is that sometimes become
victims of feelings.
In one of my latest books, I compare people’s ability to controls (控制) on
a media player. Just like the controls can help you enjoy wonderful songs, these
methods will be choices for you to manage feelings successfully.
1. Pause.
Take time to stop and think before you speak or act. Of course, you may feel
sorry if you like doing something without thinking-like sending an angry email or
posting something bad on social media. If you feel your feelings getting out of
control, pause. If possible, go for a short walk. Once you've calmed down, decide
how you want to move forward.
2. Volume control
Have you ever noticed that when speaking with someone, your style or tone is
a mirror (镜子) of the person's you are speaking to? If you stay calm or quiet, they'll
follow you. Shout or scream, and they'll do just like you. If a discussion starts
to become worse, try to change it by softening your tone or lowering your voice.
3. Record
If you want to learn more about another person’s thoughts, recording, one
way of careful listening, may help. You don't need to reply at once; you're listening
to understand. Through careful listening, you often see things you didn’t see before
and can even discover misunderstandings you didn’t know. Don't judge or offer advice
before you know more about others and the topic.
阅读以上信息, 用恰当的单词完成下面的短文, 每空一词.

An 11-year-old blind girl is proud of walking alone every
day to and from school. Why? She has to walk past so many
barriers (障碍物) in her way. The girl's home is near
the school, yet her mother follows her without letting her
know.
The case of the girl shows the barrier-free facilities (设施) are not enough
in her city. Many other cities are short of barrier-free facilities as well. There's
no well-designed path for the blind. In fact. in the early 2000s, some cities started
to build barrier-free facilities for disabled people. However, almost 20 years later,
only a few large cities have had facilities of high quality.
It's common that sidewalks are taken up with barriers. Few workers are sent to
move them away, so it's dangerous for the blind to walk on them. Also, some other
barrier-free facilities are badly destroyed(毁坏). Only a few workers are assigned
(分配) to do the task of repairing the broken ones.
Some ideas can make a difference-build more barrier-free facilities and employ
more of them require money. In a word, more money is needed to carry on with the
work. It’s our duty to make life easy for disabled people, so that they can live
without barriers some day.
