And his famous backflip has won worldwide notice in the form of Record. Why did his particular backflip earn such a reputation? Aaron was the first person to successfully perform a backflip in a wheelchair. Aaron was born ill. He has been in a wheelchair since the age of 8. Since then, he has even developed a new extreme sport in which wheelchair-bound athletes use their chairs like skateboards or bikes to do tricks. Now Aaron’s friends call him "Wheelz", and he says it’s huge praise. Though Aaron makes his stunts( 特 技 表 演 ) look easy, doing tricks in a wheelchair is very different from using a skateboard or bike. It’s a completely different skill set. If a skateboarder goes into a backflip like Aarons and doesn’t start out with enough rotation (旋 转), he or she can bend his or her body to speed up. This allows a skateboarder to make complete rotation in time for a successful landing. But Aaron can’t bend his body any more than it is already. That means Aaron has to have everything perfect before going into a backflip. He needs to launch himself to just the right height. If he doesn’t, he could fall on the ground completely. "My rotation is so quick that I don’t have much time to think," says Aaron. Aaron’s stunts take a lot of practice. He tries to make it to the skate park every day to work on his backflip and try out new tricks. Even though he’s an excellent athlete, Aaron doesn’t always land his stunts perfectly. But Aaron says he doesn’t let bad landings stop him. He gets right back up and goes for his backflip again. 24. What do we know about Aaron? A. He can do backflips as a disabled person. B. He is an excellent skating athlete. C. He has had to sit in a wheelchair since birth. D. He has developed a new game by using chairs. 25. Being called "Wheelz", Aaron felt . A. disappointed B. happy C. angry D. ashamed 26. What is the most important thing for Aaron to perform a backflip? A. Starting out with enough rotation. B. Bending the body to speed up. C. Reaching a suitable height. D. Having enough time to think. 27. What would be the best title for this text? A. A Disabled Teen Competes in Adventure Games B. A Teen Performs Excellent StuntsC. A Disabled Teen Wins Respect from Others D. A Teen Performs a Backflip in a Wheelchair 【答案】24-27 ABCD 【解析】 24. 根 据 第 一 段 中 的 "Aaron was the first person to successfully perform a backflip in a wheelchair"并结合第二段第二句话知,Aaron 是一位残疾人,他能够用轮椅来进行后 空翻,故选 A 项。 25. Now Aaron’s friends call him 'Wheelz', and he says it's huge praise"可知,他认为被朋友们称为"Wheelz",是巨大的赞美,所以他应是感到高兴的。故选 B。 26. He needs to launch himself to just the right height"可知,应选 C 项。 27. C Holidays are really important. Many of us will have childhood memories of summer holidays where we were taken away from home to experience new environments and learn in different ways. But holidays are expensive and, for those on low wages or living on benefits, they are often unobtainable. Even the cheapest holidays require travel and other additional costs that are difficult for many families to meet. For working parents, the long summer break can be a very difficult problem for childcare. When an annual leave allowance amounts to only five weeks, there is a need to spread this across the year. Couples can find themselves taking leave in turn in order to care for children who are on holiday. For some, this makes even an affordable family holiday difficult. The schools that I visit in Nottingham are full of experienced staff committed to giving our children a caring and inspiring learning environment. The number of children receiving free school meals is quite large in Nottingham and many schools have breakfast clubs to make sure that children get a healthy start to the day. Most schools undertake programs of group or individual educational support. Schools also have an important role in safeguarding children's welfare through the ongoing touch and support with their pupils. During the long summer holidays, much of this is missed. While teachers are holidaying in the UK, many of their pupils spend the whole six weeks on the street where they live. The lack of free school meals for six weeks can result in pressure on a family budget and an inability to afford the inspiring experiences that help children to continue their learning. In setting out its plans for a five-term year, Nottingham City Council (委员会) is seeking to reduce the summer holiday down to four and a half weeks, with a more balanced five terms of roughly eight weeks, each followed by a two-week break. We believe this will give real "down time" for school staff and pupils alike but will be short enough not to cause a real break in learning. We acknowledge that this change may be difficult for some school staff, particularly whose own children are educated in other authorities. However, this must be weighed against the benefits for city children for whom we all have the greatest duty of care. 28. The passage is probably written by ________. A. an experienced teacher B. a working parent C. an inspired student D. a city council member 29. The underlined word "they" in the second paragraph refers to "________". A. environments B. holidays C. wages D. benefits 30. The plans for a shorter summer holiday will help students ________. A. obtain the cheapest holidays without additional costs B. get a chance to spend six weeks a term with teachers in school C. benefit more from the caring and inspiring learning environment D. have more school days to receive free school meals 31. It can be inferred from the passage that ________. A. working parents can enjoy a five-week break to care for their children B. the suggested plans for a five-term school year can hardly be carried out C. the long summer holiday gives teachers and students real "down time" D. some school staff will say "No" to the plans for a shorter summer holiday 【答案】28-31 DBCD 【解析】这是一篇议论文。 由倒数第二段中的“In setting out its plans for a five-term year,Nottingham City Council (委员会)is seeking to reduce the summer holiday down to four and a half weeks, with a more balanced five terms of roughly eight weeks, each followed by a two-week break”可知,诺 丁汉市议会在制定五个学期的计划时,正设法将暑假缩短至四周半,五个学期更为均衡,大 约为八个星期,每个学期之后有两个星期的休息时间。 由文章第二段中的“But holidays are expensive and,for those on low wages or living on benefits, they are often unobtainable”可知,但是假期消费是昂贵的,对于那些低工 资或靠福利生活的人来说,假期通常是不可获得的。 由文章倒数第三段中的“The lack of free school meals for six weeks can result in pressure on a family budget and an inability to afford the inspiring experiences that help children to continue their learning”可知,缺乏免费的六周学校餐,可能会导致家庭预算的压力和无力提供 帮助孩子们继续学习的环境。 由文章最后一段中的“We acknowledge that this change may be difficult for some school staff, particularly whose own children are educated in other authorities. D Four years ago, we asked ourselves: what if we could create a shopping experience with no waiting in lines and no checkout? Then we parted but waved farewell to the thankful dustman. Tiredly as I was, I felt really happy. I truly believe we’ll have an harmonious society if everybody takes action. How a fine deed! have difficulty (in )doing sth. be willing to do 乐意做某事,该句型是固定句型,所以 willing 后 加 to。 tired as I was 是一个倒装句,作 was 后面的表语,用形容词,所以 Tiredly→ Tired。 Harmonious 的首字母发音是辅音,用不定冠词 a,所以 a→an。 参考词汇:书香社会 nation of avid readers Boys and girls, ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________ That’s all. As we know, reading is a way to gain knowledge and know about the world. Through reading, people can improve their cultural qualities. I think schools can organize various activities to promote reading interest among students. As to us, I suggest our class set up a book corner at the back of the classroom, to which every one of us can donate some books. In this way we can read as many books as possible. That’s all. Thank you
