B It was a very hot summer morning but inside the Pyramid(金字塔) it was quite cool. Tony and his classmates had just walked into the Pyramid and were very surprised to see what it was like. They went to the Queen’s Room. They saw a passage(通道). At the end of it there was a small room. They were told that they couldn’t go into that room, because it was newly found. Tony looked towards the passage. Two of his friends Jason and Peter saw him and said, “Don’t get into trouble, Tony! ” As soon as nobody was looking, Tony went up the dark passage, opened the door and walked in. Suddenly the door closed behind him. The room was very dark, but luckily Tony had brought a torch(手电筒) with him. When he turned it on, he saw two white faces in front of him. “Oh, no!” he cried and ran to the door. He quickly opened it and went down the passage to the Queen’s Room as fast as he could. As soon as Tony disappeared, Jason and Peter took the pieces of white cloth off their faces and walked slowly down the passage. They couldn’t stop laughing. “That will teach him a lesson,” said Jason. 24.Why did Jason and Peter say “Don’t get into the trouble, Tony!” ? A. Because they knew that Tom was thinking of getting into that room. B. Because Tom had got into trouble earlier that day. C. Because Tom was very much afraid. D. Because they were not good friends. 25. What did Tony do when the door closed behind him? A. He was afraid and cried loudly. B. He waited quietly in the dark. C. He turned on his torch. D. He ran away quickly. 26. The underlined word “disappeared” in Paragraph 3 most possibly means ________. A. found the secret B.couldn’t be seen C. cried loudly D. closed the door 27. Jason and Peter laughed because ________. A. they had got Tom into trouble B. they liked telling jokes C. they had played a joke on Tony D. Tom didn’t listen to them C On my first day of high school, I asked an eleventh grader where my class was. And he told me it was “on the fourth floor, next to the pool.” I found out five minutes later that we don’t even have a fourth floor and there’s no pool either! Besides that, I didn’t have any trouble with the older kid. I think the biggest difference between middle and high school is the homework load(工作量) and size of the school. I went from maybe fifteen minutes of homework a night to several hours, so I had to learn how to make full use of time! Our class size is around 55, but joining in clubs, sports, music, and other activities at school makes it easier to get to know people in every grade. The best advice I can give about the years you spend in high school is to learn things for yourself, not just to get a good grade. There have been so many tests that I’ve prepared for the night before, gotten an A, and not remembered anything later. I’ve changed that this year, and I enjoy school so much more. Don’t take easy classes just to have a simple year. If you have a choice between chemistry and sports, the first will prove to be a lot more useful! While drinking and smoking might be present in some middle schools, they’re also around in high school. I have a lot of friends who promised they’d never drink or smoke, but are now partying every weekend. If you have “fun” and spend your nights wasted instead of studying, you will regret it when you’re applying for(申请)college. The “friends” who say you’re a loser for not partying are really not your friends at all. It’s hard to see your closest friends grow apart and go in different directions, but don’t follow their footsteps. Create your own path in life and make your own decisions. 28. What does the author think of high school? A. There are very few activities. B. It’s hard to meet new people there. C. It requires hard work. D. There isn’t enough time for homework. 29. The author advises high school students to ________. A. get ready for tests the night before B. give up sports C. choose useful classes D. try their best to get good grades 30. The text is probably written by ________. A. a high school student B. a chemistry teacher C. a college student D. a sports player 31. The last paragraph mainly tells us ________.A. about the trouble caused by drinking and smoking B. not to go to any party in high school C. not to lose ourselves in high school D. about the importance of making friends D Have you ever felt so tired after staying up for a night that even coffee doesn’t give you the energy that you need? You may have an energy drink, but the benefits of drinking one are heavily outweighed by the risks. In the past years, more and more studies have found the deadly effects of energy drinks on your bodies. The sugar, caffeine and energy supplements(添加物)in energy drinks make up a deadly mixture of ingredients(原料)that can affect your heart function and send you to the hospital! A study by the University of Bonn, Germany found that frequent consumption ( 消 费 ) of energy drinks can greatly change the way your heart functions(运行). The study went on to say that consuming energy drinks often causes significantly increased heart contractions ( 收 缩 ) in adults, which has the potential of putting you at risk of irregular heartbeats. It is possible that many people are unaware of the alarming side effects of energy drinks because of the way they are labelled(贴标签). Most energy drinks contain between 80 milligrams to over 350 milligrams of caffeine, sugar and energy supplements. When an energy drink is marketed as a diet supplement it may be distributed(销售)without a “nutrition facts” label, which would show the harmful supplements that are in the drink. However, even if energy drinks are Food and Drug Administration(FDA)approved(批准), they don’t have to show the number of supplements. Energy drinks may be widely available(能买到的)but they aren’t the healthiest or safest choice for your body. Stay naturally energized, get organized and stay on top of your work so that you don’t have to stay up all night to complete assigned tasks. If you’d like a natural energy boost, you could make time for a short workout, which will give you all of the energy you need! 32. Which of the following is the side effect of the energy drinks? A. Making people thinner. B. Making people’s heart bigger. C. Making people run a risk of falling ill. D. Making people tired. 33. Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined word “boost” in Paragraph 5? A. Improve B. Affect C.Settle D. Understand 34. Why are many people unaware of the harmful effects of energy drinks? A. Because they don’t read the label carefully. B. Because the harmful materials are not labeled. C. Because FDA thinks they are healthy drinks. D. Because factories of energy drinks lie to drinkers. 35. What may be the best title for the text? A. Drinks are all bad B. Many People Enjoy Energy Drinks C. The Materials Energy Drinks Contain D. Energy Drinks Could Send You to Hospital 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余 选项。 Simple ways to improve your written English Many people think it is really difficult to improve their written English.
