Text 3

busy all the time.
Text 4

M:Well,we don’t have these two colors in stock at the moment, but we’d be happy to make a
purchase order for you.

M:Cool in San Francisco? That’s surprising.
W:Yeah,it surprised me a bit,too.We didn’t take any sweaters or anything,and they say it’s
always like that in August.Anyway,I loved it.It’s probably the most beautiful city in the US—all
those hills, the bay,and those charming old Victorian houses.
M:So,you like it better than Los Angeles?
W:Oh,yes. There’s much more to see and do.And because it’s smaller than Los Angeles,it’s
a bit easier to get around. There are lots of buses and street cars.
Text 10
Today,we’re reporting something very strange on the south coast. The water in Depesh Lake has turned into pink.Residents of Lawton have been worried ,and many have called the police
station to report it.The police arrived at the lake but didn’t know what happened to the water. At
first , they thought of chemical pollution , but they quickly realized this was no such
possibility.Researchers from the Coastal and Marine Science Center have been looking into the
issue. So far, they think the color might have to do with a large number of fish that have recently
appeared in the lake.Researchers have caught a few of the fish and will be taking them to a lab for
testing.Emergency workers are asking people to stay away from the lake, especially not to swim or
fish in the water. We will be back tomorrow with more update information. This is the KMLC
News. Now,over to Brittany Johnson with the weather report, followed by sports.

Over the years Lisa urged her sister Helen to prepare for her old age.Now they passed
sixty.Lisa had a big house;Helen had the clothes on her back.
Lisa had hated being a child and couldn’t wait to grow up and buy herself everything. What
Helen wanted was to go outside and play.
When anyone would hire her , Lisa put herself to work. She never touched a penny of her
money though her young mouth watered for ice cream and candy. When the dimes( 一 角 硬 币 )
added up to dollars, she lost her taste for sweets. And her bankbook became her most precious
possession.
Helen had a boyfriend Harry whose only ambition was to play a horn. That Helen married
Harry straight out of high school was not surprising. Two or three times Lisa was halfway
persuaded, but to give up a job that paid well for a homemaking job that paid nothing was a risk she
was unable to take.
Helen’s married life was nothing for Lisa to envy. She and Harry played in secondrate
bands. But Lisa had a big house because her boss offered her his first house at a price so low that it
would be like losing money to refuse.
Harry died abroad,in a thirdrate hotel, with Helen crying as hard as if he had left her a
fortune. He had left her nothing but his horn.Lisa knew she would have to bring her home.
At dinner,Helen began to tell stories. They were rich with places and people, most of them
lowly, all of them magnificent. Her face showed the joys and sorrows.
Then Lisa knew why Helen didn’t mention the shining room.Tonight Helen saw only what
she had come seeking,a place in her sister’s home and heart.
She said,“That’s enough about me.How have the years used you?” “I didn’t use
them,”said Lisa regretfully.“I saved for them but forgot to enjoy them. Now it’s too near the
end to try.”Helen said,“Don’t count the years that are left to us.At our time of life it’s the days
that count. You’ve too much catching up to do to waste a minute of a waking hour feeling sorry
for yourself.” Lisa smiled.

Everybody loves a fat pay rise.Yet pleasure at your own can vanish if you learn that a colleague has been given a bigger one.Indeed,if he has a reputation for slacking (懒惰),you might
even be angry.Such behaviour is regarded as “all too human”,with the underlying assumption that
other animals would not be capable of this finely developed sense of grievance(不满,不平).But a
study by Sarah Brosnan and Frans de Waal of Emory University in Atlanta,Georgia, which has just
been published in Nature, suggests that it is all too monkey,as well.
The researchers studied the behaviour of female brown capuchin monkeys. They look
cute. They are goodnatured, cooperative creatures, and they share their food readily.Above all,
like their female human counterparts , they tend to pay much closer attention to the value of
“goods and services” than males.
Such characteristics make them perfect candidates for Dr.Brosnan’s and Dr.de Waal’s
study. The researchers spent two years teaching their monkeys to exchange tokens for
food.Normally , the monkeys were happy enough to exchange pieces of rock for slices of
cucumber. However, when two monkeys were placed in separate but adjoining chambers,so that
each could observe what the other was getting in return for its rock , their behaviour became
markedly different.
In the world of capuchins, grapes are luxury goods (and much preferable to cucumbers). So
when one monkey was handed a grape in exchange for her token, the second was reluctant to hand
hers over for a mere piece of cucumber. And if one received a grape without having to provide her
token in exchange at all , the other either tossed her own token at the researcher or out of the
chamber,or refused to accept the slice of cucumber.Indeed, the mere presence of a grape in the
other chamber(without an actual monkey to eat it) was enough to induce resentment(愤恨) in a
female capuchin.
The researchers suggest that capuchin monkeys, like humans, are guided by social emotions. In
the wild, they are a cooperative, groupliving species.Such cooperation is likely to be stable only
when each animal feels it is not being cheated.Feelings of righteous indignation(愤慨),it seems,
are not the preserve of people alone.Refusing a lesser reward completely makes these feelings
abundantly clear to other members of the group. However, whether such a sense of fairness evolved
independently in capuchins and humans,or whether it stems from the common ancestor that the
species had 35 million years ago,is,as yet,an unanswered question.
28.In the opening paragraph, the author introduces his topic by .
A.making a comparison
B.justifying an assumptionC.making a conclusion
D.explaining a phenomenon
答案 A
故选 A。
29.The statement “it is all too monkey” in Paragraph 1 implies that .
A.resenting unfairness is also monkeys’ nature
B.monkeys are also angry with slack rivals
C.monkeys, like humans, tend to be jealous of each other
D.no animals other than monkeys can develop such emotions
答案 A
Frans de Waal
30.Dr.Brosnan and Dr.de Waal have eventually found in their study that the monkeys .
A.prefer grapes to cucumbers
B.will not be cooperative if feeling cheated
C.can be taught to exchange things
D.are unhappy when separated from others
Such cooperation is likely to be stable only when each
animal feels it is not being cheated.”
31.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Monkeys can be trained to develop social emotions.
B.Cooperation among monkeys remains stable only in the wild.
C.Animals usually show their feelings openly as humans do.
D.Human indignation evolved from an uncertain source.
根据最后一段最后一句中的“whether such a sense of fairness evolved
independently in capuchins and humans,or whether it stems from the common ancestor that the species had 35 million years ago,is,as yet,an unanswered question”可知,这种公平感是在
D
A primary school in Jinhua,Zhejiang Province has announced it no longer requires parents to
sign their children’s homework, which was aimed at getting parents to supervise(监督) their
children after school.China Youth Daily comments:Putting an end to the requirement that parents
sign off on the homework of their children eases the burden on many parents,as otherwise they
would have to do primary school homework after a hard day’s work. But there are worries that if
parents stop having to sign off on their children’s homework, the children will not get good grades.
However, the most effective way for children to study is to develop their willingness to learn
and do their own studies. When doing homework, students practice and hopefully apply what they
have learned. It is true that teachers are supposed to check students’ homework and identify their
mistakes. But some parents correct their children’s mistakes by themselves when signing off on it.
It is the duty of students to do their homework,be responsible for their studies and correct
their mistakes.Parents’ supervising their homework, checking their answers and dealing with the
harder problems will only make children less aware of their mistakes and encourage them to wait
for their parents’ help when they face any problems.
Children have to manage their own learning and develop the ability to study by themselves,as
competence will not be achieved if a student simply repeats strict tasks in which he is assisted in
school by teachers and at home by parents.
A delayed satisfaction experiment conducted by Walter Mischel in the 1960s proved that
children with better selfdiscipline( 自 律 ) performed better in their studies and interpersonal
relationships.
There is little doubt that parents’ supervision can make children’s homework better. But it
does not give children the chance to practice their ability to solve problems independently.
32.Why does the author mention the primary school’s announcement in the first paragraph?
A.To express his doubts.
B.To introduce the topic.
C.To present an argument.D.To clarify his writing purpose.
33.In the author’s opinion, stopping signing kids’ homework mainly aims to .
A.ease the burden on many parents
B.help children get good grades
C.increase the kids’ awareness of being responsible for their studies
D.shift the responsibility of supervising kids’ homework to teachers
It is the duty of students to do their homework,be
responsible for their studies and correct their mistakes.”
34.Which of the following can be an effect caused by parents’ stopping signing off?
A.Children’s grades will absolutely decrease.
B.Children will lose confidence when facing any problems.
C.Children will simply repeat rigid tasks so as to practice themselves.
D.Children will try to deal with their problems and mistakes by themselves.
35.What is the author’s attitude to parents’ stopping signing kids’ homework?
A.Supportive. B.Indifferent.
C.Neutral. D.Opposed.
答案 A
故选 A。
“Posttruth” was chosen by Oxford Dictionaries as the Word of the Year 2016.Indeed,
digital misinformation is on the rise and it is hard for people to distinguish. 36
Before the dawn of the Internet , Canadians regularly turned to trusting their preferred newspapers or radio stations for the latest news. 37 It’s now coming at you from so many
different sources that you need to take responsibility for what you’re seeing.
Experts recommend relying on a range of sources instead of just one,but looking into them
first. 38 For example,the people connected,where they’re based,and their intention.A lack
of information is certainly a warning.
Next, learning to recognize misinformation is important.False news spreads mostly through
social media. So if you’re looking at news on Facebook, you have to handle it in a wiser way. 39
Is it from a wellinformed relative or a friend who regularly expresses extreme views? And
whatever you do,only by clicking through can you see whether the information is accurate.
40 It has no limits in achieving that goal,so it plays on feelings and uses improper
language. Therefore,if you feel excited to share something immediately, that’s the time you should
stop and ask,“Is it accurate?” If we all take that extra little pause,we’ll be able to stop this
false thing from spreading.
A.Sources that are reliable tell you about themselves.
B.Fortunately, there are some simple ways to tell facts from fiction.
C.Consider who’s sharing it if it’s not posted directly from the source.
D.Today 42% of them use social media at least once a day to get their news.
E.Someone sets up “Hot Global News”,hoping the ad dollars would pour in.
F.False news is designed to seek attention in order to sell ads or make an idea public.
G.Evaluating sources and getting reliable news is important in the age of misinformation.

而把 that 从句置于后面,即用“It is+过去分词+that 从句”。 故把 As 改为 It。
根据英语常识可知,由“this/that/next/last+时间名词”构成的
时间状语前不加介词,如 this week,this month,this year 等,不需要加介词。
in。
lead to...
tired。
故把 that 改为 whether。
