第一部分 阅读理解(共 10 个小题;每小题 3 分,满分 30 分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C 和 D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题
卡上将该项涂黑。
A
Melbourne, Australia
Melbourne is a hot-spot travel destination, and it's easy to see its beautiful beaches and
busy city life.
Why it's a great choice: Australia as a whole is considered a safe destination for
international travel, and because of that, many solo travelers go there. As an
English-speaking country, you won't be faced with any language barriers. Melbourne is easy
to get around because you can walk or bike practically anywhere!
Thailand
Thailand is great for solo travelers--perhaps because it is one of the Buddhist mindsets,
which promote equality among the sexes.
Why it's a great choice: Thailand is known for its friendly atmosphere, and as a travel
hot spot, there are plenty of chances to meet other like-minded travelers. It is well known
for being very cheap, especially in the north. It is a good choice if you want to get away on a
budget. Thailand has a lot to offer, from the party-central Bangkok to beautiful beaches and
tropical(热带的) jungle.
Hong Kong, China
Hong Kong is a great place to relax for solo travelers as it is full of "Zen moments",
such as beautiful gardens and Tai Chi classes.
Why it's a great choice: Hong Kong is regarded as one of the safest cities in the world. If
you're not well-traveled, or perhaps a bit tired of things like language barriers, Hong Kong
is a great place to start, as it mixes both Eastern and Western languages at the same time.
Bali, Indonesia
Bali is a spiritual place with yoga, spas, healthy food and beaches. The combination of
friendly people and splendidly visual culture has made Bali a NO. 1 tourist attraction.
Why it's so great: You won't be the only solo traveler in Bali. Everyone is known for
being extremely friendly and you're sure to meet some amazing characters along the way. As
a Hindu island, Bali is the perfect place for a relaxing and spiritual retreat( 静 修 ). The
Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud is fantastic—if you like monkeys, anyway.

B
When I was a boy, I used to live across the road from a big hill with huge oak trees
growing out of it. When winter arrived, thick, heavy snow would fall, and my two brothers
would grab their sleds beading over to the hill for a day of fun I remember watching them
with envy because I was still too small to go sledding. Finally, one winter I was considered
big enough and joined my brothers as they carried their sleds up the hill and prepared to
ride down it.
The first few trips I rode with one of my brothers and had the time of my life. It was so
exhilarating when the wind whipped across my face as I flew down the hillside on the
wooden sled. Near the end of the day I was overjoyed too when my oldest brother decided to
let me try riding the sled all by myself. I climbed on it full of excitement and lay on my
stomach. Then with one big push my brother sent me down the snowy hillside. I was doing
pretty well too until I hit an old stump hidden by the snow and went off course, straight
towards one of those big oak trees. My heart pounded in my chest and I could hear myself
screaming. At the last possible second I rolled off and the sled crashed into the tree. I could
hear my brothers running down the hill yelling, "You have to steer( 操 控 ) ! You have to
steer!"
Sadly, that wasn't the last time I failed to steer when some obstacle knocked me off
course in my life. Many times problems, troubles and my own failures have sent me
crashing into the trees of anger, frustration and despair. I am still learning that life isn't
always safe sledding. I am still learning that it is up to me to steer myself back to love, back
to kindness, back to goodness, and back to God.
Life is a trip, but no one ever said it was a smooth ride. Steer well then. Steer straight.
Steer your soul towards the light and the love we are all meant for.
4. What do we know about the author when he was very young?
A. He lived on a big hill with huge oak trees on it.
B. He was frightened to go sledding with his brothers.
C. He longed to go sledding with his brothers.
D. He carried his brothers' sleds as they went sledding.
5. Which of the following can replace the underlined word "exhilarating" in Paragraph 2?
A. Delightful. B. Terrifying. C. Ordinary. D. Violent.
6. Why did the author fall off his sled?
A. Because his sled crashed into an oak tree.
B. Because he wanted to avoid crashing into an oak tree.
C. Because his brother pushed it so hard.
D. Because the hillside was snowy.
7. What does the author mean to tell us?
A. Losing control of a sled can be dangerous.
B. Courage and determination can change one's life.
C. Life can be controlled by one himself.
D. Life is a mystery full of coincidences.
C
A new computer program is being praised as a life-changer for blind people. The new
program is known as the KNFB Reader app (应用程序). It can help users listen to an audio
(声音的) read-back — the sound — of printed material.
The application software program costs $99. It is the product of a long relationship between the National Federation of the Blind and Ray Kurzweil, a computer scientist and an
employee of Google.
The KNFB Reader makes use of new pattern recognition and image-processing
technology, and new hardware for smartphones. People using the app can adjust, or change
the position of the camera and read printed materials out loud.
Mr Kurzweil started working on what he called "reading machines" in the early 1970s.
The idea came after speaking with a blind person who expressed frustrations with the lack
of technology to help blind people. His first reading machine was the size of a washing
machine. It cost $50,000. The technology has continued to improve over the past 20 years.
The new smartphone app can recognize and take printed material in one language and
change it to another language. But it was not available on a mobile device until now. In the
past, it cost more than $1,000 to use the software app with a camera and a mobile phone.
Blind people say the app will make life much easier and it will help with everything
from reading restaurant menus to studying papers in the classroom. Users say the app has
given some people greater independence. One user, named Gordon Luke, reported that he
was able to use the app to read his voting card for the recent vote in Scotland.
Bryan Bashin leads the non-profit group Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually
Impaired in San Francisco. He is also blind. He says the KNFB app shows the positive
impact that technology can have and there are times in his life when he wishes the KNFB
app were available to him. He adds that the ability to gain information quickly with
something that fits in your pocket will be, what he calls, "a game changer".
8.What can we learn from the fourth paragraph?
A.The first reading machine was invented by a blind.
B. Mr Kurzweil's first reading machine was very expensive.
C.The smartphone app can't be used to translate languages.
D.The reader app was available on a mobile phone 20 years ago.
9.How do the users think of the app?
A. Boring. B. Useful. C. Noisy. D. Traditional.
10.What can be the best title for the text?
A. An Essential App for Everyone
B. The History of Reading Machines
C. Smartphone App Gives "Sight" to the Blind
D. The KNFB Reader App Helps the Blind Photograph

第二节 语法填空(共 10 小题:每小题 1.5 分,满分 15 分)
阅读下列短文,在空白处填入 1 个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
I’ve found a way to keep fit –jogging. I have to admit that it was not easy 31 first.
Often, a few meters from the start, the laziness inside me 32 (gradual) appeared. My
legs started to shake and my throat dried up, 33 (breathe) in quickly. What was worse,
the seemingly unreachable finishing line discouraged me. I had a strong desire for belief to
support me—the purpose of keeping fit didn’t seem enough when I saw the 34 (end)
track.
Just then, I saw a young woman pushing her mother in a wheelchair. As I was running
past them, I 35 (hear) the daughter whispering to her mom,” See that girl? You should
start exercising, too…”
All of 36 sudden, my tiredness disappeared, and the track and the trees along the way
seemed to fade away. There were only 37 (voice) in my head that continued ,”You can
be just like her.”
It suddenly occurred to me that besides the joy of conquering 38 (I) and the sense
of pride when I run past other people, there is more meaning in jogging: You jog to pass on the idea of health. And that is something 39 makes the journey more worthwhile.
If you also have the desire 40 (exercise), don’t hold off. Do it now!

参考作文:
Dear Mike,
How are you doing these days?
Aimed at providing a platform where students can have a chance to
exchange and make use of their books, the annual campus book fair will soon be
held in our school. The fair will attract a huge crowd from the entire school, who
are to sell, purchase and exchange their books with their peers.
As a regular visitor, I’ve found myself increasingly drawn by the fair. For
one thing, the fair exhibits books of hundreds of types on diverse topics,
motivating us to further develop our reading habits and helping to broaden our
horizons. For another, most books are sold at a lower price than what the
bookstores offer.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions on how to host such a book
fair better.
Yours sincerely
Li Hua
