The first commercial flights from Beijing’s new Daxing International Airport took off on
September 25th, 2019, an airport that is roughly the size of 100 football fields and is expected to
become one of the world’s busiest, Reuters reports. The Chinese government has paid $17.47
billion for the project, according to the airport’s website. Shaped like a phoenix from the above,
the airport was designed by famous Iraqi-born architect Zaha Hadid. It has four runways and is
expected to handle up to 72 million passengers a year by 2025, eventually reaching 100 million.
It was honored as “a new powerful source of national development” at a ceremony overseen
by President Xi Jinping, just days ahead of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s
Republic of China. A China Southern Airlines Airbus A380 flight to Guangzhou in the country’s
south was the first to fly out.
China will become the world’s largest aviation market by 2022. Daxing, located south of
Beijing, will help reduce pressure on Capital International Airport in the city’s northeast, which
often causes flight delays. The new airport is, however, about 46 kilometers away from central
Beijing, almost twice the distance of Capital airport. An express train from Daxing will take about
20 minutes to reach the south of Beijing. Daxing will also accommodate passengers from the
neighboring areas of Hebei and Tianjin, linked by a network of trains, subways and public buses.
China Southern Airlines and China Eastern Airlines will be the main domestic carriers at
Daxing. About 50 foreign airlines, including British Airways and Finnair, plan to move all or part
of their operations in the next few quarters. The relocation of all airlines is to due to be completed
by the winter of 2021. With the opening of Daxing, Beijing Nanyuan Airport, China’s oldest
airport, will stop operations from Thursday.
24. What can we know from the first paragraph?
A. Daxing International Airport is made up of 100 football fields.
B. Daxing International Airport looks just like a phoenix.
C. Daxing International Airport can send 72 million passengers now.
D. Daxing International Airport has cost more than £17.47 billion.
25. What did Xi Jinping think of the new airport?

B. It marked the founding of China.
C. It was the government’s hard work.
D. It was the largest one in the world.
26. What makes the new airport easy to get to?
A. The quite short distance to Beijing.
B. The location of the south of Beijing.
C. The advanced network of transport.
D. Neighboring areas of Hebei and Tianjin.
27. What will be closed with the opening of Daxing?
A. Capital International Airport. B. Beijing Nanyuan Airport.
C. China Eastern Airlines. D. China Southern Airlines.

Ask yourself,“Why do you work so hard? What motivates you to do so?” Most of you may
say a single word to answer both the questions:Family.
All of us inherit our physical features from our parents. However, when you start interacting
with the outside world, you realize that they are not enough to ensure your success, not even your
survival. It is the values passed on to you by your family such as patience, care, understanding and
commitment that make your survival and growth possible.
You may or may not be aware, but your family was the first school you entered. “Survival of
the fittest” is the golden rule in this world. In other words,“Let the unfit perish” is the motto.
When you stepped into this world, you were unfit to survive on your own. From the first day you
came into the world, you started learning about love, care and family relationships at home. For
example, by observing your family members, you learned how family relationships work. As time
went on, you matured and started taking note of other people outside your family and how your
family members interacted with them. You also noticed how your family dealt with the ups and
downs of life.
What you learned from your family becomes your value system and forms your perceptions
and basis of actions. A person is known by his actions. It is your family that gave you an identity.
Whenever you move from one place to another, you carry your family history with you. Have you
ever noticed that your opinions always confirmed to the values you acquired from your family?
Every person’s relation to his family is similar to the earth’s relation to its environment,
which acts as a protective layer. For a person, the importance of family is beyond calculation. The
saying goes that you can choose your friends but you can’t choose your family. Spend your life
showing those you love that they will always be family no matter what happens.
28. Your family can help you survive by________.
A. providing more love for you
B. shaping your personality
C. introducing you to the outside world
D. improving your school education
29. According to the passage, a person represents________.
A. the unity of his family
B. his family benefits
C. the behavior pattern of his family
D. his family relationships with others
30. Like the environment to the earth, a family________.
A. is an interactive system
B. encourages its members to work hard
C. is full of challenges
D. provides security for its members
31. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The development of a person.
B. The importance of family.
C. How to survive the hardship?
D. What’s a family?
D
The Earth is facing a climate crisis, but it’s also getting greener. According to a new research,
the rise is largely because of China and India. A study by NASA, based on extensive satellite
imagery, has revealed that the two countries with the world’s biggest populations are also
responsible for the largest increase in green plants.
A third of the leaf increase is attributable to China and India, due to the implementation of
major tree planting projects as well as a vast increase in agriculture. “China and India account for
one-third of the greening, but contain only 9% of the planet’s land area covered in vegetation—a
surprising finding, considering the large populations in the countries need much land,” Chi Chen,
the study’s lead author said in a statement.
Between 2000 and 2017, a NASA sensor gathered data of the Earth’s surface from aboard
two satellites, the Terra and the Aqua. Using the data, researchers discovered that China is the
source of a quarter of the increase in green leaf area, despite possessing only 6.6% of the world’s
vegetated area. Forests account for 42% of that increase, while croplands make up a further 32%.
China’s increase in forest area is the result of forest conservation and expansion programs,
established to combat the impacts of climate change and air pollution.
Rama Nemani, a researcher at NASA’s Ames Research Center, said in a statement, “When
the greening of the Earth was first observed, we thought it was due to a warmer, wetter climate
from the added carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, leading to more leaf growth in northern forests,
for instance. Now, with the data, we see that humans are also contributing,” Nemani said. “This
will help scientists make better predictions about the behavior of different Earth systems, which
will help countries make better decisions about how and when to take action.”
32. What can we get from the new research by NASA?
A. China and India make a contribution to the Earth’s increasing greening.
B. China and India should be responsible for the world’s climate crisis.
C. China and India have the biggest populations and the most green plants.
D. The Earth no longer faces a climate crisis because of China and India’ efforts.
33. Which of the following is NOT the fact from the passage?
A. China and India contribute one-third of the world’s greening growth.
B. China and India account for only 9% of the planet’s land area with vegetation.
C. A quarter of the increase in the world’s vegetated area is due to China’s efforts.
D. China’s forests and croplands make up 74% of the Earth’s increase in green leaf area.
34. What does the underlined word “it” refer to in the last paragraph?
A. The protection of the forests.
B. The increased croplands.
C. The greening of the Earth.
D. The impacts of climate.
35. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. China and India are making the Earth greener.
B. The Earth we live on is facing a climate crisis.
C. China and India are joining together to deal with climate change.
D. NASA released a report on air pollution in China and India.

W: Well, I should be careful about choosing one. It’s a big step to buy a house. I’d rather take

W: I’ve been there, very beautiful houses, but I prefer old but big houses. We need lots of rooms,

M: However, a cheap house means less modern conveniences. Why not get a new one?
W: Well, Jeff can remodern the old one. You know, he’s so skillful. Some of the new houses now
have very small rooms. I wouldn’t want to spend the rest of my life in them.

M: Oh, no! I’m supposed to meet her at seven sharp. What time is it now?
W: Six thirty.
M: I’d better get ready.
W: Where are you going?
M: Haven’t made up our minds yet. Maybe to a restaurant, or perhaps to the movies first.
W: Why don’t you go and see Citizen Kane at the Classic Film Festival? It’s supposed to be great.
M: Oh, maybe we will. Psycho is also playing. I’ve heard it’s really good, too.
W: If you like horror films with lots of blood. Personally I don’t. Well, I really should be going.
Do you want to go swimming tomorrow?
M: I’d be glad to, but I might have to go to the studio and do some work. Can I let you know
the first thing in the morning?
W: Sure. That’ll be fine.
M: Oh, there’s the phone. It must be Tracy.
W: Well, I’d better be going then. Have a good time tonight.
M: Thanks. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.

Text 10
Welcome to the United States, ladies and gentlemen. Now I’d like to tell you what you should
do when you become ill. If you feel sick and want to see a doctor, check with the manager of your
hotel. They may call a doctor for you. American doctors are busy all the time, and it may be
difficult to see the doctor immediately, unless you are well enough to go to the doctor’s office. If
you have difficulty explaining what is troubling you in English, your tour guide may be able to
help you. You may also go to the nearest hospital, especially if you require immediate attention. If
you are seriously hurt and alone, call 911 and the operator there will help you. Don’t be frightened
if you’re sent to the hospital. In the United States, people are often sent to hospitals so that doctors
can use the special machines and services for tests and treatment. Unfortunately, the United States
does not have a national system of health insurance to help pay medical bills.

The exhibition, the theme of which is “My People, My Country” , will be held in the Arts
