I see my friends gather by a stage where music is playing and I run over. As I begin running towards them, they become further and further away. I keep calling them, but no one hears me. I start hearing a distant alarm-like sound and I am transported away. I woke up in a daze sitting in my bed. “Oh, it was only a dream,” I said to myself. I have always had vivid and intense dreams. It feels like I haven't even slept because I have been living out my dreams during my sleep. Today, dreaming is being studied even more than ever. Some say that dreams are how your receptors make sense of random thoughts while you sleep. Some say that you can’t dream of a face you have never seen before, so everyone you see in your dreams you have at least laid eyes on at one time or another. Other people think dreams are ways of expressing stress or internal feelings you may be experiencing. A lot of people say that they have dreams about being chased. A common interpretation of the “being chased” dream is that you are feeling threatened. Some dream interpretation websites say you should try to reflect on what or who is chasing you to get a better idea of what is making you feel this way. Another dream that is often experienced is flying. This dream has a much more positive interpretation, which is that you are feeling free or have broken out of a bad situation such as a relationship turned sour or a job you hate. Unfortunately, you may forget half of your dream within five minutes of waking up and within 10 minutes, you usually forget 90 percent of it. Dreamologists, people who devote time to the study and interpretation of dreams, suggest if you want to try to remember and study your dreams you should keep a journal beside your bed and write down what you dreamt as soon as you wake up so you can reflect on it later. 24. What does the author think of his dreams? A. They have influenced his sleep. B. They reproduce his real life scene. C. They are just his random thoughts. D. They are unbelievable and ridiculous. 25. In which situation do dreams of “being chased” probably occur? A. You are feeling free. B. You just quit a job you hate.C. You lack the sense of security. D. Your friends keep you at a distance. 26. Why should we keep a journal beside our bed? A. To reflect on our dreams. B. To avoid forgetting our dreams. C. To help us sleep well without dreams. D. To help us get out of the tense dreams. 27. Where is the passage probably taken from? A. A news report. B. A fiction book. C. An ad website. D. A science newspaper. D ( 辽 宁 省 沈 阳 市 东 北 育 才 学 校 高 三 一 模 I READ mostly fiction before I was introduced to CaMalcolm Gladwell's work. In his TED talk called "Choice, Happiness, and Spaghetti Sauce (意大利面酱)",he used the examples of Pepsi and spaghetti sauce to argue that giving people choices makes them happy. If I had only heard his conclusion statement and missed the evidence that he employed ,I would have been wondering how he could argue such an interesting point. But he structured his argument like a detective story, with each puzzle piece contributing to the conclusion. Fascinated,I borrowed his book Outliers: The Story of Success from the library. Each chapter had its own story and argument, and all of the arguments were about factors that contributed to an individual' s success in the world. The depth of his research was amazing. In the first chapter,he analyzed the reasons behind the crash of Korean Air Flight 801 in 1997,which killed more than 220 people. The disaster took place partly because the co-pilot didn't point out the mistakes that the pilot was making. In South Korea , it' s disrespectful to disagree with higher ups even if they are doing something wrong. Perhaps most interesting of all,Gladwell explained why Asians are so good at math. He said Asians get an advantage when they learn how to count because their language has fewer syllables (音节) and makes numbers easier to remember. But Gladwell is mostly interested in answering my favorite question,"Why?” And that’s exactly why I love his works. After reading Outliers: The Story of Success and other books like it , I found myself questioning my commonly-accepted beliefs much more often. After all,why should we take anything for granted? 32. Why does the author write this article? A. To promote some of Gladwell’s books. B. To introduce Gladwell and his books. C. To show how Gladwell did research for his books. D. To explain why he enjoys Gladwell’s books. 33. How did the author feel about Gladwell’s TED talk? A. Surprising but persuasive. B. Refreshing but puzzling. C. Interesting but doubtful D. Funny but conclusive. 34. What can we know from the passage? A. Eating spaghetti sauce can make you happy. B. Carelessness caused the Korean air crash in 1997. C. Fewer syllables give Asians an advantage in learning math. D. The Story of Success is about Gladwell’s personal success. 35. What really makes the author fall in love with Gladwell’s works? A. His strong arguments. B. His amazing research. C. His detective-like stories. D. His questioning spirit. 第二节 (共 5 小题,每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多 余选项。 (重庆市重点中学九校联盟高三第一次联考)Reading for pleasure is an alien concept especially between your to-do list, your deadlines, and your complete lack of “your time”. ____36____ However, tons of super successful people find time in their schedules to read. Writer James Clear introduced me to the concept of “habit stacking(叠放)” ___37____ According to Clear, “the quickest way to build a new habit into your life is to stack it on top of a current habit.” Since I’ve always loved breakfast, I decided to “stack” the new habit of reading for 30 minutes on top of my existing one of going to cafes and eating fried eggs. ___38___ At the beginning of each month, my friend and I share our reading lists and make sure to help each other to finish them.
