B I heard many parents complaining that their teenage children are rebelling (叛逆). I suggested they recall their own teenage years. At that age they would like to be growing away from parents. They preferred to stand on their own feet. But take a good look at the present rebellion. It seems that teenagers are taking the same way of showing that they disagree with their parents. Instead of going out fighting bravely on their own, most of them are grasping one another's hands for reassurance (肯定). They declare they want to dress as they like, but they all wear the same clothes. They set off in new directions in music, but somehow they all end up gathering around listening to the same record. Their reason for thinking or acting in a similar way is that the crowd is doing it. They have come out of their cocoon (茧)into a larger cocoon.绝密启用前 【沧州市 2019~2020 学年度高二第一学期期末教学质量监测英语学科试卷】第 3 页 共 7 页 It has become harder and harder for a teenager to stand up against the popularity wave and to go his or her own way. Industry has firmly carved out a teenage market. These days every teenager can learn from the advertisements what a teenager should have and be. And many of today's parents have come to award high marks for the popularity of their children. All these create a great barrier for the teenager who wants to find his or her own path. But the barrier is worth climbing over. The path is worth following. You may want to listen to classical music instead of going to a party. You may want to collect rocks when everyone else is collecting records. You may have some thoughts that you don't, care to share at once with your classmates. Well, go for it. Find yourself. Be yourself. Popularity will come with the people who respect you for who you are. That is the only kind of popularity that really matters. 24.What will teenagers do if they are rebelling? A.Fight bravely. B.Wear beautiful clothes. C.Follow the crowd. D.Stay away from teachers. 25.What's paragraph 3 mainly about? A.The symbols of the present rebellion. B.The attitudes of parents to the present rebellion. C.The reasons why teenagers fail in finding their own ways. D.The ways of changing the teenagers' dependence. 26.What does the author suggest? A.Finding popularity with others. B.Growing away from parents. C.Staying together with friends. D.Holding on to our own thoughts. C When we talk about positive thinking, we often use terms having to do with our hearts— open heart, pure heart or joyful heart. But new research from Duke University is making a closer connection, finding that a positive attitude may be helpful to people who have angina (心绞痛), a common heart condition. Symptoms of this condition include chest pain or pressure because the heart is not receiving sufficient oxygen. Patients who displayed optimistic thought patterns, including having positive expectations about recovery, were 40 percent less likely to be hospitalized or require surgery than those who were not optimistic, according to the study. The researchers collected data from 2,400 patients who had diagnoses of angina. An interesting additional finding from the patients' questionnaires was that the most optimistic patients were also the least likely to have histories of heart attack, heart failure or heart disease. The researchers did not declare a causal relationship between positive thinking and better heart disease outcomes, however. There are multiple possible reasons for the results of the study, including the idea that patients who are healthier to begin with are more likely to expect to recover and regain good health. But the study does represent a new way of looking at the situation. Now, in addition to a body of research that examines the relationship between depression and heart health, there is a new way of inquiry that asks whether positive thinking could be used as a strategy to improve outcomes. Lead researcher Alexander Fanaroff, a fellow in the department of cardiology (心脏病学) at the Duke University Medical Center, told the Duke Chronicle that his next research question will find ways to improve attitudes among heart patients. Perhaps his subjects could reflect on the word of the writer Anthony J. D'Angelo: "Smile, it is the key that fits the lock of everybody's heart." 27.How can people with angina get better according to the study? A.By expecting more. B.By thinking positively. C.By getting timely surgery. D.By taking more exercise. 28.What may be Alexander Fanaroff’s next research? A.To explore how to improve patients' attitudes. B.To find out the ways to treat heart patients. C.To learn the causes of heart diseases. D.To test if positive attitudes help with health. 29.What can we learn from the text? A.Optimistic people hardly get heart attack. B.People's attitudes decide their overall health. C.How positive thinking benefits heart health is unclear. D.The reason why patients recover well is that they have no depression. 30.What may be the best title for the text? A.Keep positive to get rid of illness B.Angina, a kind of serious condition C.Depression, a key cause of heart attack D.Positive thinking makes hearts healthier 第二节 (共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项 中有两项为多余选项。 The past is good for two things: the happy memories, and the lessons it provides. Take some time to think and create two lists: One, your Top Five Most Important Lessons Learned in the Year. And two, your Top Five Favorite Memories of the Year. ___31___ Take some time to think ___32___ But you just invested 8760 or so hours of your life in the previous year. To pull what is worth pulling from it, to give it proper perspective and proper closure, it surely deserves some of your focused conscious energy. ___33___ Maybe you lost half your investments this year. Or your job. Or your house. Or you faced health challenges. You may dwell on the negative, self-defeating questions like “How could I be so stupid?” or “How could God let this happen to me?” But a child doesn’t touch fire, get burned, and then spend the rest of his days – or even hours – thinking bitterly how this could have happened to him. He learns not to touch the fire and twenty minutes later he is happily playing again. ___34___ Don’t bang on the beehive(蜂窝) When discussing the past year I have already heard so many people stating how bad it was. I hear them recalling all the bad memories. It is like banging on a beehive. Because here is a universal law: whatever you seek, you will find plenty of. ___35___ Likewise, if you are focused on good memories, the beauty in the world, and things to feel grateful for, they will nourish your mind, your heart, and allow your life to blossom.绝密启用前 【沧州市 2019~2020 学年度高二第一学期期末教学质量监测英语学科试卷】第 4 页 共 7 页 A.Learn from the past experiences B.First and foremost, bear in mind that the key aspect of this experience is to “take some time to think”. "A wait is a psychological state," Don Norman, 60 director of The Design Lab at UCSD, said. "In that way, it’s a matter of design, of 61 (try) to understand the psychology of the people waiting but also their boredom and frustration. It requires a human-centered design view, from the points of view of both the people doing the servicing 62 the people waiting in line." "Putting 63 (mirror) next to elevators is a way to distract people for a minute or two so 64 (it) can adjust their ties or their hair and make sure they’re looking great," Richard Larson, a queuing theory expert and professor, said. However, that may not be the case. According to a recent report, you don’t need the break as much as you may think that makes you feel less tired. Scientists have long assumed that willpower(意志力) is a limited resource, which is why you feel the need to have a rest, have a snack and then get back to task when you are feeling better. They argue that the only way it restores willpower is by rest, food or entertainment. But psychologists have challenged this theory, saying weak willpower is all in your head. They have found that people’s belief in willpower determines how long and how well they’ll be able to work on tough mental exercise. “If you think of willpower are something that is not really used up, you can go on and on.” said Professor Veronika Job. The researchers designed four experiments to test students’ belief in willpower. After a tiring task, those who believed, or were led to believe that willpower is a limited resource, performed worse on standard concentration tests than those who thought of willpower as something they had more control over. They also found that leading up to the final exam week, students who believed the limited resource theory ate junk food 24 percent more often than those who believed they had more control in resisting the temptation. Mr. Job said, “The theory that willpower is a limited resource is interesting. Belief in willpower as a non-limited resource makes people stronger in their ability to work through challenges.” The findings can help people who are battling against temptation(诱惑). Willpower isn’t driven by a biologically-based process as much as we used to think. The belief in it is what influences your behaviors. 注意:1.词数:80 词左右; 2.文章开头和结尾已给出,不计入总词数; 3.可适当增加细节,以使行文连贯。 Dear Mike, I’m very glad to have received the letter you sent me last week. I have been thinking about the question you asked me. From my point of view, you can choose to come to China after finishing your studies. For one reason, China’s development over the past 30 years offers quantities of job opportunities for the young. What’s more, what you are studying is badly needed in China nowadays. In fact, many big companies in our city are hoping to hire people like you. For another reason, China is a country with so different cultures and traditions from the west that many foreigners enjoy living and working here. Why not come and join them? I’m sure you wi ll adapt to the environment quickly. If you come here, I will do what I can to help you. So what are you waiting for? I’m looking forward to your coming.
