One of the most important things in the world is friendship. In order to have
friends, you have to be a friend. But how can you be a good friend at school?
Listen ﹣ Listen when they are talking. Don't say anything unless they ask you a
question. Sometimes it's not necessary for you to have anything to say; they just need
someone to talk to about their feelings.Help them ﹣ If your friend is ever in need of something, be there to help them.
You should try to put them first, but make sure you don't do everything they want you
to do. Try to take an extra pencil or pen with you to classes in case they forget one.
Have a little extra money in your pocket in case they forget something they need.
Be there for them﹣Be there for your friends to help make them feel better in hard
times. Marilyn Monroe, a famous U.S.actor, once said, “I often make mistakes.
Sometimes I am out of control, but if you can't stay with me at my worst, you are
sure not to deserve to be with me at my best.” Always remember this! If you don't
want to stay with your friends when they're in hard times, then you don't deserve to
be with them when they're having a good time!
Make plans ﹣ Try to make plans with your friends. Go shopping, go for ice
cream, have a party, go to a movie and so on. Take time to know each other even
better by doing something you both enjoy. By planning things together, you both can
have a good time. And you'll remember these things when you're all old!
21 . While your friend is talking to you about his or her feelings , you
should .
A.give him or her some advice
B.calm him or her down
C.just listen unless asked
D.share your feelings as well
22.When we provide help for our friends, we should .
A.put them before ourselves
B.try to do everything for them
C.change their bad habits first
D.ignore their faults
23.What can we learn from Marilyn Monroe's words?
A.Life without a friend is death.
B.A friend is easier lost than found.
C.A man is known by his friends.
D.A friend in need is a friend indeed.

Your house may have an effect on your figure . Experts say the way you design
your home could play a role in whether you pack on the pounds or keep them off .
You can make your environment work for you instead of against you . Here are some
ways to turn your home into part of diet plan.
Open the curtains and turn up the lights . Dark environments are more likely to
encourage overeating , for people are often less self-conscious(难为情)when they’
re in poorly lit places-and so more likely to eat lots of food . If your home doesn’t
have enough window light , get more lamps and flood the place with brightness.
Mind the colors . Research suggests warm colors fuel our appetites . In one
study , people who ate meals in a blue room consumed 33 percent less than those in a
yellow or red room . Warm colors like yellow make food appear more appetizing ,
while cold colors make us feel less hungry . So when it’s time to repaint , go blue.
Don’t forget the clock-or the radio. People who eat slowly tend to consume
about 70 fewer calories(卡路里) per meal than those who rush through their meals.
Begin keeping track of the time, and try to make dinner last at least 30 minutes, And
while you’re at it, actually sit down to eat. If you need some help slowing down ,
turn on relaxing music. It makes you less likely to rush through a meal.
Downsize the dishes, Big serving bowls and plates can easily make us fat. We eat
about 22 percent more when using a 12-inch plate instead of a 10-inch plate. When
we choose a large spoon over a smaller one ,total intake ( 摄 入 ) jumps by 14
percent. And we’ll pour about 30 percent more liquid into a short, wide glass than a
tall, skinny glass.
28.The text is especially helpful for those who care about_______.
A. their home comforts
B. their body shapeC. house buying
D. healthy diets
29.A home environment in blue can help people_________.
A.digest food better
B.reduce food intake
C.burn more calories
D.regain their appetites
30.What are people advised to do at mealtimes?
A.Eat quickly.
B.Play fast music.
C.Use smaller spoons.
D.Turn down the lights.
31.What can be a suitable title for the test?
A.Is Your House Making You Fat?
B.Ways of Serving Dinner
C.Effects of Self-Consciousness
D.Is Your Home Environment Relaxing?

Arriving in Sydney on his own from India, my husband ,Rashid, stayed in a

During the first week of his stay, he went out one day to do some shopping. He

half-written letter in the pile in which my husband had given his new telephone
number to a friend.

restored our faith and trust in people. We still remember their kindness and often
send a warm wish their way.

As a senior year student, you may have so many pressures coming from so many
directions that you can’t figure out what to do first.
36__
When you have many things to do and a lot of demands on your time, you can
lose sight of what’s important. One of the best ways to see the big picture – what you
want out of life – is to lay out your goals.
Pressure Points and How to Deal With Them
Confused or overwhelmed -- 37 . Discuss your concerns with a friend,
parent or teacher. They may help you find solutions to your problems and worries.
Being too hard on yourself – ease up, take a break and do something you enjoy.
Daydream, read a book, go out with friends – anything that helps you relax.
Problems, problems, problems – recognize your limits. It’s too stressful to try to
deal with all your problems at once. 38____
Goal-Setting Tips
It’s important to remember that goals belong to you – not to your parents, your
teachers, or your friends. After you’ve set your goals, identify the skills you have to
achieve those goals. 39 , do some research. Try the library, your guidance
adviser and teachers, and other people who could help you.
40 . If your goal is something you no longer want, change it. Identify the
barriers to getting your goals. Consider ways to overcome them. Don’t get depressed
by a big, long-term goal – see what steps you can take to achieve it and set those steps
