Millions of people all over the world use the word okay.In fact, some people say the word is used
more often than any other word in the world.
It may be common, but no one can seem to agree on how the "OK" came to be.
Okay means "all right" or "acceptable".It expresses agreement or approval. You might ask your
brother, “Is it okay if I borrow your car?”Or if someone asks you to do something, you might say,
"Okay,I will."Still, language experts do not agree about where the word came from.
Some people say it came from the Native American Indian tribe known as the Choctaw. The
Choctaw word "okeh" means the same as the American word okay. Experts say early explorers in the
American West spoke the Choctaw language in the nineteenth century. The language spread across the
country.
But many people dispute(争论)this.
Language expert Allen Walker Read wrote about the word okay in reports published in the
1960s.He said the word began being used in the 1830s.It was a short way of writing a different spelling
of the words "all correct."Some foreign﹣born people wrote "all correct" as "o﹣1﹣1k﹣o﹣r﹣r﹣e﹣
c﹣t."and used the letters O.K.
Other people say a railroad worker named Obadiah Kelly invented the word long ago. They said he
put the first letters of his names﹣O and K﹣on each object people gave him to send on the train.
Still others say a political organization invented the word. The organization supported Martin Van
Buren for president in 1840.They called their group, the O.K.Club.The letters were taken from the
name of the town where Martin Van Buren was born﹣Old Kinderhook,New York.
Not everyone agrees with this explanation, either. But experts do agree that the word is purely
American. And it has spread to almost every country on Earth.
21.What is the text mainly about?
A.How the word Okay came into being.
B.The different meanings of the word Okay.
C.The dispute of the origin of the word Okay. D.How widely the word Okay is used.
22.What does the underlined word Okay express in the 2nd example in Paragraph 3?
A.Promise. B.Admission. C.Permission. D.Correctness.
23. What do language experts agree on?
A.Okay is the most widely﹣used word.
B.It came from some Indian dialect.
C.It was invented by a politician.
D.It is first used by Americans.

A serious problem for today’s society is who should be responsible for our elderly and how to improve
their lives. It is not only a financial problem but also a question of the system we want for our society. I
would like to suggest several possible solutions to this problem.
First, employers should take the responsibility for their retired employees. To make this possible, a
percentage of profits should be set aside for this purpose. But when a company must take life-long
responsibility for its employees, it may suffer from a commercial disadvantage due to higher employee
costs. Another way of solving the problem is to return the responsibility to the individual. This means each
person must save during his working years to pay for his years of retirement. This does not seem a very fair
model since some people have enough trouble paying for their daily life without trying to earn extra to
cover their retirement years. This means the government might have to step in to care for the poor.
In addition, the government could take responsibility for the care of the elderly. This could be
financed through government taxes to increase the level of pensions( 养 老 金 ). Furthermore, some
institutions(机构) should be created for senior citizens, which can help provide a comfortable life for
them. Unfortunately, as the present situation in our country shows, this is not a truly viable answer. The
government can seldom afford to care for the elderly, particularly when it is busy trying to care for the
young.
One further solution is that the government or social organizations establish some working places
especially for the elderly where they are independent.
To sum up, all these options have advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, it is reasonable to expect that some combination of these options may be needed to provide the care we hope to give to our elderly
generations.
24. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this article?
A. To discuss some possible solutions to an important social problem.
B. To make general readers aware of the problems of retired people.
C. To point out the need for government support for old people.
D. To instruct retired people on how they can have a happier life.
25. According to the passage, how can the government help to improve the lives of retired people?
A. Set aside some profits to help people with problems after they retire.
B. Increase savings levels of people during their working years.
C. Increase the discounts for food and transport for the old.
D. Make available pensions for those who have retired.
26. What can be concluded from the passage?
A. Taking care of the old is only an issue of money.[来源:学。科。网 Z。X。X。K]
B. Employers should allow their workers to retire at a later age.
C. There is no single solution to the problems of the old.
D. Becoming independent should be the goal of most old people.

Slowly but surely, we’re moving closer and closer to 5G world. From smart-home security to
self-driving cars, all the Internet-connected devices in your life will be able to talk to each other at
lightning-fast speeds with reduced delay. Objectively speaking, the fastest 4G download speeds in the U. S.
top out at an average of 19.42 Mbps. But by comparison 5G promises gigabit (千兆) speeds.
“5G is one of those signs, along with artificial intelligence, of this coming data age,” said Steve
Koenig, senior director of market research for the Consumer Technology Association. “The self-driving
vehicle is a great emblem of this data age, and that is to say, it is a sign of time, because with one single
task, driving, you have massive amounts of data coming from the vehicle itself, and a variety of sensors are
collecting a lot of information to model its environment as it moves. It’s pulling in data from other vehicles about road conditions down the lane. It could be weather information, but also connected infrastructure (基
础设施) construction. There’s lots of data behind that task, which is why we need high speed.
Augmented reality(简称 AR) glasses and virtual headset haven’t yet broken the mainstream, but
tech companies are joyfully betting(打赌) that these devices will eventually replace our smartphones.
With 5G, that could actually happen. This is notable(值得注意的) because companies such as Apple
are reportedly developing AR glasses to assist — or perhaps even replace — smartphones.
Ericsson stated at February’s Mobile World Congress how smart glasses could become faster and
lighter with a 5G connection, because instead of being weighed down with components, the glasses could
rely on hardware for processing power.
But don’t get too excited. There’s still a lot of work to be done in the meantime including various
trials to make sure the radios play nicely with hardware and infrastructure construction so 5G isn’t
concentrated only in big cities.
27. What does the author want to stress in Paragraph 1?
A. The lighting-fast speed of 5G. B. The expectation of 5G world.
C. The difference between 4G and 5G D. The internet-connected devices in our life.
28. What does the underlined word “emblem” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. Exhibition. B. Success. C. Symbol. D. Explanation.
29. We can infer from the text that ________.
A. 5G world won’t come without AR glasses
B. 5G helps to create the artificial intelligence vehicle
C. Apple company is developing AR glasses worldwide
D. Tech companies will face the fact that smartphones may be replaced
30. What will the author probably tell us next?
A. How to fully expand 5G coverage.
B. Smart glasses will become faster and lighter.
C. Why 5G isn’t concentrated in big cities.
D. The importance of infrastructure construction第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)

Today it is common to see people who walk about with colored wires hanging from their ears
wherever they go. They move about in their personal bubbles, sometimes unaware of what's happening
around them. 31 . Outside life is shut out. So are you one of "them"?
For me, walking around in my own personal bubble is perfect. 32 _. What's even better,

moment!"
Suppose you're at work and about to make an incredible breakthrough, but a colleague suddenly

Pretty soon, not only will we have pretty colored wires hanging from our ears﹣but also our brains
will be directly plugged into some new high ﹣ tech instruments. We'll be in a virtual ( 虚 拟 的 )
world, communicating with everyone else, or choosing not to, as we like. In this world, we will all
be permanently plugged in. 35 . And they are changing our social habits along the way.
In the end, there is a thin line between using technology as a tool for making life better and being a
slave to it! It's so strange﹣suddenly, I don't feel like wearing my earphones anymore.

B. I also have wires hanging from my ears.
