Food waste is one of the greatest challenges of our time, and fruits and vegetables are particularly problematic, as an estimated 52 % of harvests go bad before reaching consumers. But one Malaysian company claims to have come up with a simple and effective solution to this problem — a tiny sticker that keeps fruits from spoiling for up to two weeks.
You!ve probably seen stickers on fruits before, but not like the one named Stixfresh. Those common stickers are used to provide consumers with information about the grower and how the fruit was grown, but Stixfresh has a completely different purpose. It contains a special, all-natural formula (配方)that slows down the ripening process, keeping the fruit fresh and juicy for much longer.
Stixfresh is made with 100 % organic materials and contains a mixture of ionized Sodium Chloride and beeswax, which helps slow down the bacterial activity in the fruit, thus delaying the ripening process. That sounds like a very basic explanation of how these stickers work. The company says that the stickers are completely safe, so safe in fact, that you can actually eat them. The Stixfresh founder Zhafri Zainudin says that he came up with the idea for the stickers four years ago, after visiting a friend who operated a fruit stall. The man grumbled about losing money every day due to spoiled fruits, but there was no way to stop nature from taking its course. “It got me to thinking. Maybe I couldn't stop nature, but could I slow it down?" Zainudin writes on his company's website.
The Malaysian businessman partnered with famous universities, research institutions and agencies to develop and test his stickers. It took him three years to perfect the manufacturing process and effect of his product.
The Malaysian company claims that there are many products that promise to preserve the freshness of fruits for longer, but their stickers are the only solution that uses 100% natural ingredients.
24. What's the main difference between Stixfresh and common stickers?
A. The purpose. B. The shape.
C. The information. D. The process.
25. How does Stixfresh keep the fruit fresh and juicy for much longer?
A. By speeding up the ripening process.
B. By reducing the time of reaction.
C. By slowing down the bacterial activity.
D. By heating a mixture of chemicals.
26. What does the underlined word “grumbled" in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Quarreled. B. Complained.
C. Inquired. D. Doubted.
27. What can we know about Stixfresh?
A. Zainudin developed it on his own.
B. It is more environmentally friendly.
C. It took a short time to come onto the market.
D. It makes fruit fresh more than two weeks.

My son Will was three, and we'd been playing with his toy dinosaurs on the floor for a few hours. "Dear, I've got to do some work — work now," I told him. “You play by yourself for a while, okay?" "Okay, Dad," Will looked
at me with the all-knowing smile of a three-year-old. Without missing a beat he added, “Now, will you play with me some more?"
His answer hit me like a Zen koan, a response intended to show the lack of logical reasoning. But it occurred to me in that instant as an enlightenment (启迪)that no matter what I did in my career, nothing would ever be as important as sitting on the floor playing games with my son for as long as he liked.
Spending precious moments with my sons meant much more to me than extra workouts at the gym, or lazing on the couch watching football games. And I rarely thought of my work, except when I had to. I've learned that the often-quoted saying is really true — when you grow old, you'll never remember those extra hours you spent at the office, but you will remember the extra time spent with your kids.
But this Father's Day 2019 was a first for me. Will was away from home on a high school community service trip, and his younger brother Connor spent the week at a sports camp. In the past, to be a good father, I needed to be there for my boys no matter how busy or distracted I felt. Now that they're older, things are shifting. To be a good dad today means giving them less of me, and giving my children more time to explore or find new adventures by themselves. But I'm confident our shared past means a lot to them and it has shown them I'll always be around them if necessary and always be their good father.
28. What do we know about Will at three?
A. He liked playing with dinosaurs most.
B. He always pretended to be happy.
C. He couldn't understand his dad's words.
D. He wanted his dad to accompany him.
29. What has the author got from his experience?
A. A strong body through exercise.
B. Good memories about his sons.
C. A great achievement in his office.
D. More spare time to watch TV.
30. What kind of person is the author?
A. Selfish. B. Considerate.
C. Humorous. D. Friendly.
31. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. The author felt lonely on this Father's Day.
B. The kids don't need their father any more.
C. The kids should do things by themselves.
D. The author never regrets what he did.
D
Video games often show players wonderful and big places to explore. But sometimes going bigger isn't always better. That's the idea behind the Polish video game studio Varsav’s upcoming “Bee Simulator". Players take on the role of a brave bee that seeks to gather pollen (花粉)from plants in a Central Park-inspired area while also trying to save the hive (蜂巢)from humans and other dangers. The game is mainly to show how our world looks from the bee's eyes.
Coming up with the idea of doing a game about bees isn't exactly what many people think of when it comes to
video games. When Rosinski, the creative director of Varsav Studiosm, was reading his daughter the book Bees by Polish author Piotr Socha , he came to the conclusion that here he had a ready plot for a potentially interesting computer game!
“Bee Simulator" has a few different modes (模式)of play. The first is what Rosinski calls a "story- driven campaign with many interesting tasks that player must achieve to be able to finish the game". The other two modes of “Bee Simulator" involve more relaxing fun. An exploration mode allows the player to explore and simply take in the sights. The third mode is one that allows two players to compete or cooperate to complete various challenges.
Given the inspiration tied to a young child, it should be no surprise that “Bee Simulator" is designed with youngsters in mind. As a result of the easy controls and the game's approach to its story and play, “Bee Simulator" is intended as a family-friendly experience. “Bee Simulator" is also intended to teach knowledge to players of any age who are interested in learning about bees. Parents can play along with their kids, and don't have to worry about particularly violent or otherwise inappropriate content.
32. What does the game mainly show to the players?
A. The bees' world. B. The world in bees' eyes.
C. The bees' life. D. Bees and humans.
33. What inspired Rosinski to make “Bee Simulator"?
A. A bee. B. An exploration.
C. A video game. D. A book.
34. Which word can be used to describe “Bee Simulator"?
A. Educational. B. Common.
C. Violent. D. Popular.
35. What can players do in the exploration mode?
A. Listen to stories. B. Finish various tasks.
C. Enjoy the sights. D. Challenge other players.

What if someone says something against your ideas? If you can’t deal with it reasonably, then an argument might occur. However, it can't help solve the problem. 36 To avoid an unnecessary argument, some practices and skills might help.
Listen with everything you have.
37 Let him finish, and while he is speaking, make eye contact and let him know you hear him. It's amazing that even after a long and drawn out argument neither person feels really heard, so listen intently. If the delivery bothered you, you can choose to address that later if you'd like.
Don't take it personal.
Listen from a place of selfless compassion and don't take it personal. 38 Try to distinguish his message or what he is feeling rather than giving your attention to the reactions and feelings that arise within you as he speaks.
39
When the other person finishes, you don't need to respond right away. Take the time to think of what you would like to say. It's okay to be silent and thoughtful for a moment. Clear out all those reactions that are based on your own feelings before you speak.
Address the message communicated to you.
Take the time to address what was said rather than addressing your own feelings about it. Not doing so is how arguments go out of control. Instead respond only to the message that was communicated. 40
A. Take a moment before you respond.
B. Put yourself in the other person's shoes.
C. It can even hurt both feelings sometimes.
