"Did I really bring all this?"‎ Gray, who has sickle cell disease, is the first patient with a genetic disorder whom doctors in the United States have tried to treat using the powerful gene-editing technique CRISPR.‎ Today, Gray is getting ready to finally go home to Forest. Miss., after months away from her four children so she could undergo the experimental treatment, which involves infusions of genetically modified bone marrow cells.‎ ‎"I'm very excited,” says Gray, who has been living in a temporary apartment in Nashville, Tenn., for several weeks since getting discharged from the nearby TriStar Centennial Medical Center. "I know it's going to be emotional for me. I miss the hugs and the kisses and just everything. ”‎ As a baby, Gray was diagnosed with sickle cell disease, which causes bouts of excruciating pain.‎ The disease is caused by a genetic defect that turns red blood cells into hard, sticky, sickle-shaped cells that don't carry oxygen well, clog the bloodstream, damage organs and cause torturous bouts of pain.‎ ‎"The pain is excruciating. It's like being in a car accident and having lightning in your chest. It's a pain that makes a grown woman like me scream," Gray says. "It's an overwhelming pain."‎ Like many sickle cell patients, Victoria had to drop out of school, quit work and spend weeks in the hospital away from her family. Since many sickle cell patients don't survive past their 40s, Gray worries whether she'll live to see her children grow up. She just turned 34. But Gray has hope now, because in July doctors infused billions of her own bone marrow cells back into her body, after editing them with CRISPR.‎ Scientists used CRISPR to modify a gene in the cells to make them produce fetal hemoglobin, a protein that babies usually stop making shortly after birth. The hope is that the protein produced through the gene-editing treatment will give sickle cell patients like Gray healthy red blood cells.‎ CRISPR enables scientists to make very precise changes in DNA, raising hopes that the technique will lead to new ways to prevent and treat many diseases.‎ The sickle cell study is part of a wave of studies that are moving CRISPR out of the lab and into the clinic.‎ Doctors are also trying to use CRISPR to treat cancer. Most of those studies are underway in China. But three patients have been treated for cancer in a CRISPR study at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, and another study recently started recruiting cancer patients in the U. S. and Australia.‎ ‎58.Why did Gray receive CTISPR treatment?‎ A.Because she missed her four children.‎ B.Because she wanted to do an experiment.‎ C.Because she developed a sickle cell disease.‎ D.Because she had genetically-modified bones.‎ ‎59. It can be learned from the passage that .‎ A.CRISPR has been successfully used in treating cancer B.CRISPR isstill at its experimental stage in the labs C.protein produced through CRISPR gives patients red cells D.Sickle Cell patients stop making Fetal hemoglobin after birth ‎60. The author seems to believe the CRISPR is .‎ A.dangerous B. promising C. ineffective D. time-consuming C There is no shortage of psychologists who say that in order to function in life, our "tank" of self-esteem has to be full to overflowing. Whether we like it or not. there are few "fuels" that give us as much determination, self-confidence and a sense of competence. However, we know very well that we often go through life with virtually nothing in the tank.‎ The famous cultural anthropologist Margaret Mead explained something very important to us. She maintains that the family is that first social group where our way of interacting determines who we are(or at least a good part of it). Our parents are the ones who have the duty and obligation to fill our "tank" with adequate nutrients and rich components. They should ensure that there is no lack of security, affection, and attention. They should supply that vital encouragement and drive which will help us to walk through this world feeling that we are valuable people.‎ However, in the formation of our self-esteem, we don't always have this quality of fuel This inevitably leads us to try and discover who we are. And also to seek to repair that childhood which was lacking in so many things.‎ The formation of our self-esteem begins in childhood. Everything that happens in childhood has a big influence, but it doesn't completely determine who we are. One thing we know about human beings, and in particular the brain, is that our flexibility and capacity for improvement is immense(巨大的). However, ‎ despite this, we can't get away from the great importance of our upbringing. The quality of our interaction with those who care for us is absolutely key. They don't only provide us with food and sustenance, but also with an emotional and educational legacy.‎ To delve (深入探究)into these topics we would recommend the writings of Dr. Ed Tronick, an expert in child development at Harvard University. He reveals that in order to favor good self-esteem and quality care in children, we need to be emotionally connected with them. However, in much of his research he was able to show that even good parents aren't in tune with their children 40% of the time.‎ These findings may seem somewhat alarming to us, or we may consider them exaggerated (夸张). However, Dr. Tronick points out something that should make us reflect. The reason why many parents do not connect 100% with the emotional needs of their children is because they do not do it with themselves either.‎ A parent who is full of stress, and unresolved emotional knots(结疤), will be unconsciously sending a series of signals and information to the child. The child will subsequently absorb this information into his own life too.‎ On top of that, if the parents themselves don't have high self-esteem, then it will be difficult to create it in the child. If the child can't sense this foundation in the parent then they are not going to receive that same security.‎ ‎61.By "nothing in the tank" in Para. 1, the author means that .‎ A.we don't have much money B.our self-esteem level is very low C.whether we like or not, fuels of life are always there.‎ D.life gives us determination, confidence and a sense of competence ‎62.The main idea of Para. 2 is .‎ A.the family is the first social group for children B.parents should ensure their children are in good health C.parents should encourage their children to learn to drive D.the family is the primary factor in shaping children's self-esteem ‎63.What can we learn from the passage?‎ A.Parents' low self-esteem results in their children's low self-esteem.‎ B.What happens in childhood literally determines people's personality.‎ C.Good parents are always emotionally connected with their children.‎ D.Instead of emotional support, parents should provide kids with education.‎ ‎64.What does the writer want to stress in the last paragraph?‎ A.Parents should deal with theirchildren strictly.‎ B.Parents themselves should have a high self-esteem.‎ C.Parents should send their children correct signals.‎ D.Parents should be a guardian of their children's security.‎ D Multi-billionaire Robert F. Smith made headlines back in May for his pledge to pay off the student loan debt of an entire graduating college class—and now, he says that he is paying off the debt of the students' parents as well.‎ Smith, who is the founder and CEO of Vista Equity Partners, is collectively donating $ 34 million to the new Morehouse College Student Success Program to pay off the loans that students and parents of the class of 2019 accumulated to fund a Morehouse education.‎ The Morehouse Student Success Program is a scholarship, loan debt, research and educational initiative (倡议)established by the Board of Trustees as a national investment strategy to limit student loan debt ‎ and help graduates to gain in wealth faster. Under the new initiative, Morehouse will request and accept donations made specifically to reduce or eliminate the student loan debt of Morehouse Men and their parents or guardians, thus creating an opportunity for greater financial freedom for new alumni(毕业生)and their families.‎ The history-making grant(授予物)from Mr. Smith, who announced his intention to make this grant when he received an honorary doctorate from Morehouse in May» will ease the financial strain on the class of 2019, the billionaire's “classmates.”The $ 34 million contribution to the Morehouse Student Success Program will benefit the new alumni by allowing them to pursue advanced degrees, start careers, and build wealthwithout being tethered (拴住)to undergraduate loan debt related to Morehouse.‎ ‎"This liberation gift from Robert Smith the first of its kind to be announced at a graduation in higher education—-will be life-changing for our new Morehouse Men and their families," said David A. Thomas, the President of Morehouse College. "It is our hope that our graduates will use their newfound financial freedom to pursue their career goals, to lead and serve the community, and to remember the spirit of the gift given to them by paying it forward to support the education of future classes of Morehouse Men. ”More than 400 students, parents, and guardians of the Class of 2019 will receive Morehouse's inaugural(创始的)gift under the Student Success Program.‎ America's student loan debt now more than $1.5 trillion, according to the U. S. Department of Education (more than the nation's $ 1. 3 trillion in auto loan debt)—-can exacerbate the wealth gap that exists between black families facing generational poverty and other groups. Black households nationally have the lowest median net worth, falling behind Asian, white, and Latin Americans respectively, according to the U. S. Census. Economic status can impact loan repayments.‎ At Morehouse, the student loan debt threshold (最低限度)at graduation is between $ 35,000 and $40,000, which is higher than the average for HBCUs. According to UNCF research, HBCU graduates borrow nearly twice as much—$26, 266 on average—-as non-HBCU students. And one in four HBCU students borrows $40,000 or more to attend college.‎ ‎"Morehouse's program to provide debt relief to new graduates is a fund-raising opportunity that should be studied and duplicated (复制)nationally," said Michael L. Lomax, president and CEO of the United Negro College Fund. "The impact of such a gift, particularly for minority or economically disadvantaged families’ could accelerate the growth of a more diverse and robust(健康的)middle class. "‎ Alumni who graduated in May or who finished their degree requirements during summer school 2019 are eligible(有条件被选中)to receive gifts in the inaugural offering from the Morehouse College Student Success Program. Their parents and guardians are also gift-eligible. All must show supporting documents to prove that loans were taken to finance a Morehouse College education and processed by Morehouse.‎ ‎65. What can we learn about Robert F. Smith?‎ A.A CEO who once took out the student loan at Morehouse College.‎ B.A billionaire who has reduced some graduates' financial burden.‎ C.A big boss who contributed to the founding of Morehouse College.‎ D.A founder who has accumulated loans to fund college education.‎ ‎66. The benefit of the initiative lies in the fact that .‎ A.graduates can land jobs more easily B.Morehouse can produce more talents C.guardians can make specific donations D.alumni can achieve faster career success ‎67.How shouldthe graduates remember the spirit of the liberation gift?‎ A.By pursuing their career goals.‎ B.By enjoying their financial freedom.‎ C.By relating their loan debt to Morehouse.‎ D.By making donations to support future classes.‎ ‎68.Which of the following best explains " exacerbate" underlined in Paragraph 6?‎ A. Weaken. B. Worsen. C. Identify. D. Clarify.‎ ‎69.According to the passage, who might borrow least money for college education?‎ A. Morehouse students. B. HBCU students.‎ C. Non-HBCU students. D. UNCF students.‎ ‎70.What might Michael L. Lomax agree with about the gift?‎ A.It contributes to the occurrence of a bigger middle class.‎ B.It is not necessarily suited to other places of the nation.‎ C.It applies to all Alumni who graduated in May or summer.‎ D. Rather than looking at health issues caused by the body, environmental health looks for causes and potential problems in the native environment. The study of environmental health usually covers the physical aspect of both the natural world and human-built surroundings. Air and water quality, climate, ultra-violet radiation, and human-created toxins (毒素)are all carefully studied with the goal of improving environmental health.‎ Water quality and air quality are major concerns of environmental health. Human beings need to hydrate(进行水合反应)and breathe simply to survive; if their air or water is polluted, it increases the risks to public health. Water and air can be polluted by a variety of both human and natural factors. Chemical run off from factories can easily lower air quality, but the sniffling and sneezing of millions each spring shows that pollen(花粉)can harm human health as well. By encouraging effort to clean up water and air and warning the public about potentially harmful airborne or waterborne particles, public health officials can protect or at least prepare humans in harmful conditions.‎ One of the biggest concerns in the study of environmental health is the effects of radiation on the population. Although it may seem that radiation is usually human-created, it is not easy to notice that the sun is an intense radio-active body that most humans expose themselves to daily. With the thinning of the ozone layer(臭氧层)allowing more ultraviolet rays to pass through the atmosphere, many experts believe that high-levels of sunexposure can be a factor in many cancers, particularly skin-related cancers. The enormous explosion in radiation-emitting electronic devices is also one of the issues experts in the field focus on, as even small increases in human exposure to radiation can-have serious or dangerous results.‎ Another major concern is global change to human living environments. Climate change, global warming, and loss of species diversity all can be harmful to the living conditions of humans. By working closely with scientists who study all aspects of the environment, from biologists working with endangered species re-population effort, to meteorologists studying weather changes due to global warming, public health officials can help provide services and information about global impact on the human environment.‎ Public health organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) devote much effort to understanding and improving environmental health. In daily life, humans tend to be exposed to a variety of natural and man-made conditions that can be dangerous to overall health. By providing information, public ‎ health officials can tell the public the possible health risks caused by environmental problems. If a “wear sunscreen"ad pops up, a billboard urges water conservation, or a sewer sign reads “No Dumping— Drains to Ocean", it is likely that public health officials concerned with environmental factors have taken part.‎ Environmental health Explanations of environmental health ‎♦ Environmental health 71. causes and potentialproblems in the native environment ‎♦Both the natural world and human-built surroundings 72. to the study of environmental health.‎ Three major 73..‎ of environmental health Water quality and air quality ‎♦Air and water are very important to human beings because we 74. on water and air to survive.‎ ‎♦Various human and natural factors may 75. to thepollution of water and air.‎ Radiation ‎♦Daily sun exposure is usually 76 , although it can cause many cancers.‎ ‎♦Radiation-emit ted by electronic devices also 77..‎ experts because longer exposure to radiation can have serious results.‎ Global change ‎♦ Climate change, global warming, and loss of species diversity all can harm the living conditions of humans.‎ ‎♦Through close 78. with scientists, services and information about global impact on the human environment can be provided.‎ ‎79. to improve environmental health Some public health organizations are trying hard to 80. the public of health risks caused by environmental problems.‎ 第五部分书面表达(满分25分)‎ ‎81.请阅读下面文字,并按照要求用英语写一篇150词左右的文章。‎ It seems that there is a definite lack of social skills in modern teenagers.
