M: Hi, I would like a one way ticket to Brussels, please.

M: A night sleep on the train sounds nice.

M: Have you thought of moving at all, Sarah?
W: We’ve thought about it, but my husband and I can’t afford it right now. The only thing we

M: Kate, look! The passengers are coming from the plane, and there's Susan.
W: Which one?
M: The tall one next to the window.
W: The one with the suitcase?
M: No. The one with the package under her arm.
W: Oh, yes! That’s Susan!
M: Shall we take her to the wedding party right now?

W: I miss my parents. I wish we could see them.
M: Well, if they lived closer, we would see them more often.
W: If we owned a bigger house, they could live with us.
M: You know they would never do that. They would feel that they would annoy us.
W: You're right. But I wish I were with them now. Let’s go visit them.
M: All the way to Florida? We could if we didn’t have to work and if the kids didn’t have school.
W: Maybe they will come to visit us when it gets warmer.
M: I’m sure they will. Maybe we can go there to see them this summer on vacation. Meanwhile,
why don’t you call them on the phone?
W: I just did. That’s why I miss them so much right now.

W: Hi, Simon! Where are you heading?
M: Just walk around. I’ve got no idea what to do on such a sunny day.
W: Why not go to the cinema, or the theatre?
M: Is that the typical plan for British people?
W: Ah, you can say so. People in Britain like me usually get up late on Sundays, and have bacon
sandwiches, reading the papers. Museums, galleries, things like that.
M: Sounds good!
W: Some also go to watch football drinking beers, and go to the pub for a Sunday lunch. People in
Britain love football.
M: So do I. By the way, why are shops all closed today?
W: Haha! You have to get used to it. Everyone needs a bit of time off, including those working in
shops.
M: I understand.
W: Good! Oh, there is a football match in Manchester today, and you still have time to get there. I
have to go now. Linda is waiting for me.
M: Wonderful, thank you! Have a nice day!

The Internet has opened up a whole new online world for us to meet, chat and go where
we’ve never been before. But just as in face-to-face communication, there are some rules of
behavior that should be followed when online. The basic rule is simple: treat others in the sameway you would want to be treated. Imagine how you’d feel if you were in the other person’s shoes.
First, remember to respect the beliefs and opinions of others in the chat room. If someone in
the chat room is rude to you, don’t fire back in the same manner. You should either pay no
attention to the person, or use your chat software to block their messages. If it is caused by a
disagreement with another member, try to fix the situation by politely discussing it.
Second, be kind to newcomers. Everyone was new to the network once. Offer advice when
asked by newcomers, as they may not be sure what to do or how to communicate. When someone
makes a mistake, be kind about it. If it’s a small mistake, you may not need to say anything. If you
do decide to tell someone about a mistake, point it out politely.
Last but not least, it is not polite to ask others personal questions. Unless you know the
person very well, and you are both comfortable with sharing personal information, don’t ask such
questions.
