One day, I played the chess with Father and I won the first round, said proudly: “Dad, you have to fight.”
Father replied he will get back in the next round. The second round began and I launched a series of attacks, that
caught my dad off guard and led to much falls. My heart leaped with the joy that he could win again. I thought
victory was within my grasp, but I defeated instead. Dad explained that I should have taken a long term view so
that I could succeed eventually. Father’s words made me comprehended a principle that we students should look
forward to the future. More important, we should be good at seizing opportunities, making plan, and moving
forward to the goal.

One Possible Version
Dear Mary,
How are you getting along these days? Knowing that the produce on your farm is hard to sell during the
COVID-19 epidemic, I really feel as worried as you. So, I'm writing to share some successful Chinese experience
to help you.
Chinese farmers came across the similar problem not long ago, but they came up with a creative solution:
promoting goods sales through livestreaming. What you need are a computer or a cellphone with access to the
Internet and a live stream platform or application for broadcasting. By taking advantage of social influencer
marketing, the sellers can introduce the goods more efficiently and the buyers can watch the products visually in
real time, thus, making the online trade more convenient. To ensure the quality of live streaming, make sure the
equipment and the Internet are of good quality and the surroundings are quiet and free of disturbance.
I do hope that it will be helpful to you. Best wishes!
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

M: I think we need to hire several part-time workers to help us move the office.
W: You're right. We can't do all the preparation work ourselves. Let me search for a hiring agency to find us some
people as soon as possible.

W: Fred is very happy.
M: Which one is he?
W: He's short with big glasses, but actually his eyes are a bit small. He is in front of Lily with short brown hair.
Look, there. Lily is the tall girl with long hair.
M: Oh. I see him.

W: Hi, Peter. We'd better book our flight for the meeting in New York. Do you prefer to take a flight on
Wednesday or a flight on Thursday?

morning.

M: Hey, Jenny. Saturday is my birthday and I was wondering if you’d like to come to my party. You can come
along with your brother.
W: Oh, I’m sorry. I think I may already have plans ... to go to my grandparents’ house with my father.
M: OK. I hope you have a good time.
W: Thank you. And I hope your party’s fun. Anyway, see you in class on Monday.
M: Sure! Bye.

M: I’m sorry. I just wanted to get something to drink. I’m so thirsty. Can you bring me a glass of water?
W: Sure, I’ll be back with it in just a minute. Please wait for a moment.
M: Thank you very much. By the way, what’s the weather like in Moscow now?

W: Good morning.
M: Morning.
W: Come in. Sit down. Now, you’re a new patient, aren’t you?
M: Yes, that’s right.
W: OK. So I’d better ask you some questions first. Now, have you ever had any serious illnesses or accidents?
M: A broken leg I got from playing football when I was 17. I was in the school team at that time.
W: Anything else?
M: No, apart from that, nothing.
W: And, have you had any operations of any kind?
M: No, the only time I’ve been to hospital before was when I broke my leg.
W: Fine. Any allergies?
M: Yes, to dust and cats.
W: How do you react?
M: They both make me sneeze a bit. Nothing else.
听第 9 段材料,回答第 13 至第 16 题。
W: Did the children enjoy the holiday camp or were they all homesick?
M: Well, I must admit some of the younger kids were a little bit unhappy because they’d never been away on their
own before and didn’t know some of the other kids. But soon they recovered. By the last day they didn’t want to
go home because they were having such a great time.
W: What sort of things did you do with them?
M: Well, there were some trips, including a visit to Hardwick Castle. That was what we did on the first day. I think
they were expecting it to be rather boring, especially when they heard they were having a guided tour. But they
were wrong — the guide was very interesting. He told them some interesting stories and really made the history of
the castle come alive.
W: I can imagine — what sort of sports activities did they do?
M: Sailing, climbing, horse-riding and the like. And on the last day we had a barbecue, which was their favourite.
The kids enjoyed it very much. They all promised to come and get together again next year.

Good morning. Now I have no other choice but to call you to complain about the recent purchase of a woolen
sweater from your department store on Philip Street, on September 25th. I recently washed the sweater in cool
water, following the instructions. However, when I moved it from the machine, the sweater became too large and
wrinkled and no longer fit me well. I phoned the store last Tuesday, that was October 12th, and spoke to the shop
assistant, a Mr. Morris, who was rather rude on the phone and informed me that I could not get a replacement
sweater as it was purchased at a reduced price. Later I phoned again but once more received a cold answer from
one of your helpline staff that she could do nothing to help. I felt really upset, for I have been a regular customer
of your store for many years and until this incident, I’ve never had any complaints. I must tell you, I feel
disappointed to be treated in such a manner. I demand an apology for this manner. And I think you should have a
talk with your workers. I’m expecting you to ring me back as soon as possible.
