Mom Knows Best
当我是个整夜哭泣的小宝宝时，
When I was a tiny baby crying all night,
妈妈依偎在我身旁唱歌送我入梦乡；
my mom sang to me and stayed by my side;
当我累了饿了的时候，
When I was tired and hungry,
妈妈给我食物，温暖的臂膀就是我的床；
she gave me food and warm arms to sleep in.
当我两岁奔跑在田野上时，
When I was two running through the field,
她确保我的安全，让我远离危险；
she made sure I was safe and kept me from danger;
当我摔倒伤了自己时，
When I fell and hurt myself,
她给我拥抱并扶我站好；
she gave me a hug and lifted me up,
在我七岁咳嗽严重时，
When I was seven coughing badly,
她说我不适合吃冰淇淋；
she said no ice-cream for me;
我却大声顶嘴，
But I talked back loudly,
“必须允许我多吃些！
“
I should be allowed to eat some!
现在就给我！”
Give it to me now!”
九岁的我看恐怖电影时，
When I was nine watching scary movies,
她说这种电影会给我带来噩梦，
she said it’d give me awful dreams;
我却怒吼道，
But I shouted back angrily,
“
应该允许我看这种电影！
“
I should be allowed to watch it!
我不再是小孩子了！”
I’m not a baby!”
十几岁的我与朋友们外出闲逛时，
When I was a teen going out with friends,
她叮咛道“十点前一定要回来！”
she said, “Please be back by ten!” ;
我又顶嘴

But I talked back again -----
“不应告诉我什么该做不该做！
“
I should not be told what to do!
我现在十七岁了！”
I’m seventeen now! ”
现在我长大成人了，回想过去的时光 ；
Now I’m an adult, thinking back to those times,
吃了冰淇淋后我咳嗽了数日 ，
I coughed for days after eating that ice-cream,
看了恐怖电影后让我噩梦连连 ，
I had scary dreams after watching that film,
我上学迟到因在外面游荡超过十点。
I was late for school from staying out past ten.
我后悔不该与妈妈顶嘴，后悔没有听妈妈的忠告；
I regret talking back, not listening to Mom;
妈妈最了解，她只想对我最好！
Mom knows best, and for me she wanted only the best!
