On September 11,2001, I arrived at my building at around 8:30 a.m.
我正要上楼，这时我决定先买一杯咖啡。
I was about to go up when I decided to get a coffee first.
我去了我最喜欢的咖啡店，
I went to my favorite coffee place,
尽管它在我办公室东边两个街区以外。
even though it was two blocks east from my office.
当我正在和其他办公室职员排队等待的时候，
As I was waiting in line with other office workers,
我听到一声巨响，
I heard a loud sound.
我还没来得及加入室外的其他人群弄清究竟发生了什么事，
Before I could join the others outside to see what was going on,
第一架飞机已经撞上了我办公室的大楼。
the first plane had already hit my office building.
我们直盯着燃烧着的大楼上升起的黑烟实在无法相信，
We stared in disbelief at the black smoke rising above the burning building.
我觉得能够活着就很幸运了。
I felt lucky to be alive.

Almost 10 years later, on February 21, 2011 ,

点醒来，
I woke up at 10:00 a.m.,
意识到我的闹钟根本没有响，
and realized that my alarm never went off.
我从床上跳起来直奔机场。
I jumped out of bed and went straight to the airport.
但是到我抵达机场时，
But by the time I got to the airport,
飞往新西兰的航班已经起飞了。
my plane to New Zealand had already taken off.
“
这是我今年收到的第一个假期，
“
This is the first holiday I’ve taken in a year,
我居然误了航班，真倒霉！”
and now I’ve missed my plane. What bad luck!”
我心里想，其他的航班都已经满员，
I thought to myself. The other planes were full,
我不得不等到第二天。
so I had to wait till the next day.
第二天早上，我听到新西兰昨天发生了地震，
The next morning, I heard about the earthquake in New Zealand the day before.
我的坏运气意想不到地变成了一件好事。
My bad luck had unexpectedly turned into a good thing.
