Dear Xiao Ming
I'm sorry to learn that you intend to drop out for high stress. As one of your friends, I hope that you can give up the idea.
First of all, you should have a right attitude towards stress. Stress is a small part in our normal life. Second, I suggest you calm down and find out the cause of your stress and manage to come up with ways of dealing with it. As to how to reduce stress, you may take exercise, listen to music or turn to your teachers or classmates for help.
I hope that you can take my suggestion into account and I'm convinced that you will make a right decision.
Yours truly
Li Hua

第二节:读后续写(满分25分)
Paragraph 1:
We went to the owners’ home, only to find the other buyer visiting the owners too. He said that the price he offered was much higher than ours. He begged the owners to sell it to him, and then the owner asked the buyer, “Why do you want this house?” “For investment,” the buyer replied. “As it is near the city, I can rent it to earn money...” The owner thought for a while, looked at him and said, “I’m sorry, sir. I can’t sell my house to you, because I am looking for someone who truly loves it, not just for money.”
Paragraph 2:
The owner looked at us and said, “I decide to sell my house to you!” Seeing us sitting by the lake all those times, he knew how much we loved the place and that we’d appreciate the years of work they had put into their house. He realized he would make a loss by selling it to us, but it was worthwhile since we were the people they wanted to sell their house to. We were told to consider the difference in the price as “an early wedding present”. That’s how we found our house and how I learned that when people are kind, they are not strangers, but friends we haven't met yet.

Text 1
W: Hi, Michael. It's Carol. I'm going to change Wednesday's arrangements. Something's come up. Could we do it a day later?
M: Well, the only other possibility would be Friday. I've got a lot to do on Thursday.
W:OK.
Text 2
M: Bye. See you tomorrow! Oh, by the way, you can't take the bus tomorrow. There is no public transport.
W: You're joking! How will everyone get to work?
M:Well, I'm bringing my car for a change.I guess most people will take taxis.
Text3
W: You just want a cut, Mr. Krueger?
M: Yes, just a little off the top.
W:Fine. Step back here, and I'll give you a wash.
Text4
W: We need another copier.
M:Why? There is nothing wrong with this one.
W: Maybe not, but it's practically an antique (古董).
Text5
W: You look a little tired today, Jack.
6
M:Well, I've got a mountain of work to do and three reports are due this afternoon.
Text 6
M: Do we still have far to go? ⑥This carry-on (可随身携带登机的)bag is really hurting my shoulder.
W: We're almost there. The plane's gate is just up those stairs there. Then we'll be home two hours later. What do you have in your bag anyway?
M:Oh, I picked up some CDs and toys for my kids. The prices are unbelievably cheap here in Hong Kong
W: This must be your first trip here.⑦ I remember picking up many things when I first came here, because they are really much more expensive in our hometown.
Text 7
W: Hello, this is Sue. I am calling about the apartment for rent advertised in today's paper. Is it still available?
M: Sorry, the one that is on the 3rd floor has already been rented out, but the first-floor apartment is still available. ⑧ It's $ 600 a month. You have to pay three months' rent before you move in: two months' rent for security deposit (保证金)and the first month's rent.
W: All right. Are pets allowed? I have a small cat and I really want to take him.
M: Yes, but only small pets.
W: That's good. ⑨ Then I'll come with my cat later this afternoon to have a look at the apartment.
Text 8
M: Hey, Janet. ⑩ It is the fourth time I've seen you in the library this week. What are you busy with?
W: ⑩I'm here all the week round doing my paper. It's quiet here so I don't do much at home or in the classroom. And it is nearly completed.
M: ⑪Let me have a look at it. Australian population in the year of 2025. So in what way do you think the Australian population will change in 2025?
W: Well, the major reason for population change is the change in birth and death rates. Over the past 150 years, the improvement on Australian health care has led to a drop in the death rate. So I think in the year of 2025, the population in Australia will increase.

M: That makes sense. I know you must have done a lot of work on it.
W: Absolutely. ⑫I am sure it is a perfect paper.
Text 9
W: I don't understand why you don't want me to study abroad.
M: ⑬Because your mother and I want to look after you and make sure you are safe.
W: It's not as if I'm going halfway round the earth to America or Australia. Anyway I've applied to colleges in Germany, France and Italy. My first choice would be Germany, followed by France of course, ⑭given that(考虑到)my German is much better than my French, but I wouldn't mind a couple of years in Italy either. It would be great to learn a fourth language.
M: I still don't understand why you want to go abroad. All your friends are staying here.
W: You know perfectly well that ⑮I'd like to work for the European Commission(欧盟委员 会)one day. Studying abroad would be helpful for that.
M: But studying abroad will be far more costly than studying here, not to mention the cost of living. ⑬⑯Last time your mother and I were in Paris, we paid a fortune(付了一大笔钱) for a simple lunch.
W: Don't worry. If I end up in Paris, I won't be eating in expensive restaurants.
Text 10
W: OK, everyone. Thanks for coming along to find out about our extreme camping trip. Before start, can I remind you about our training day? ⑰Because it'll probably rain tomorrow, we've decided to do this on Saturday instead of Thursday. We're starting at 8:30, so make sure you're there on time. There are different ways to experience extreme camping, but on our trip it means bringing no food or water with you. ⑱We're going to eat only what nature can provide. But don't worry. I'm sure you won't be hungry. We're camping at Sandy River and it's easy to find lots of delicious fruit and vegetables nearby. ⑱I expect some of these will be quite unfamiliar to you, but your guide will make sure you only eat what's safe.
⑱There are also other types of food you can find. The guide will show you where to look for eggs. There are other places you can look for these apart from trees. For example, some birds leave them in holes in the ground or in the grass like snakes do.
Now of course we'll not bring any cooking equipment like a camping cooker or a frying pan, ⑲so you're going to learn how to cook your food on a hot rock, which is heated by fire.
Now what about drinks? You'll have to live without juices or hot chocolate. I'm afraid. ⑳You'll get all the water you need from rivers and streams but you must remember to boil

it for at least three minutes to make sure it's safe to drink.
Right, so before I continue, I'll answer any questions you've got about food.
