But they can be good for another type of transportation: walking! In Zimbabwe, and in many other countries, old tires are not thrown away. Instead, craftsmen cut them up and make them into sandals ( 凉 鞋 ). One of these craftsmen is Casper Mamutse, who runs a small sandal-making business just outside his house. When Casper first saw a man named Isaac wearing tire sandals, he thought they looked funny. So he asked Issac where he got them. Issac said he had made them himself. Casper decided to buy a pair to make his friends laugh. But his friends didn’t laugh, instead they wanted their own. “Finally, I asked him to teach me how to make tire sandals,” says Casper. For more than six months, Casper learned how to cut and shape soles (鞋底) from tires. To make the right size, Casper traces a shoe sole on the tire and cuts out a sole. “Cutting a tire with a knife requires as much brains as strength,” he says. “You have to use a lot of power and concentration or else you will cut your finger along with the tire.” After the sole is cut, Casper tears off the soft inside part of the tire and cut it into strips (带状物). He attaches the strips to the sole for “belts”. From one tire, Casper can make about four pairs of sandals for adults or about six pairs for kids. The Zimbabwe countryside is full of sharp stones. Unless you have thick soles, your shoes can be easily pierced (刺穿). But strong boots are expensive, and many people walk barefoot. But now they can get tire sandals, which are strong enough and much less expensive than leather shoes. Fedzai, a 10-year-old boy, thinks that what his friends need now are not cars to take them to school, but shoes. “Going to school on foot instead of in a car does not bother me very much,” he says. “After all, we are still moving on tires.” 21. Why did Casper buy a pair of tire sandals at first? A. To entertain his friends B. To keep it as a souvenir C. To learn the producing technique D. To prepare for his sandal-making business. 22. Which of the following statements is TRUE? A. Cutting soles from tires only needs power and strength. B. Tire sandals are much stronger and more comfortable than boo ts. C. It took Casper over six months to learn to make a pair of tire sandals. D. Many people can’t afford to buy strong boots in Zimbabwe countryside. 23. What can be the best title for the passage? A. Special Sandals B. Walking on Tires C. Tire-sandals Business D. A Journey in ZimbabweB Singing has always made Stephen Dunn, 64, of Melbourne, feel joyful. He occasionally sang with bands in the past. When he was diagnosed (诊断) with Parkinson’s disease two years ago, he remembered that his father, who’d also had the condition, lost his ability to sing as the disease progressed. Hoping to prevent a similar fate, Stephen joined ParkinSong last year, a local group of Parkinson’s patients who meet monthly with a music therapist (治疗学家). They sing together and learn skills to help preserve their singing and speaking voices. “The session involves vocal exercises, breathing exercises, correct posture and that sort of thing,” he says. “Our vocal cords (声带) are like any other muscle in our body. If you don’t use it, you lose it.” Helping Parkinson’s patients maintain their voices is just one way that music therapy benefits people. A variety of music programmes can improve the mental or physical health of people with numerous diseases and conditions. There are no potential side effects, except, perhaps, getting a song stuck in your head. When therapy is needed to relieve pain or maintain or restore function to the body, different options are available. Physical therapy can be effective, but repetitive exercises may be boring. Music can add an element of fun to therapy. Music is an ideal motivator, because people have deep emotional responses to it on many levels; researchers and music therapists latch onto this to create treatments that can be as effective as, or more effective than, traditional therapies. “Music’s so multi-dimentional,” says Jeanette Tamplin, a music therapist and research fellow at the University of Melbourne who’s involv ed with ParkinSong. “It can be very functional. Like you’re getting people to walk in time to music. Or it can help them to access emotions and process grief ( 悲 伤 ) and adjustment through songs.” Doctors recommend music therapy to treat certain conditions, and researchers are working to expand the reach of treatments. 24. What’s the purpose of Stephen Dunn’s joining ParkinSong? A. To train his vocal cord. B. To learn more singing skills C. To meet people with Parkinson D. To stop himself losing his ability to sing 25. What can be inferred from the passage?A. Music motivates people to express all their feelings. B. Music has the best effect on restoring the function of body. C. Music therapy brings patients more fun than traditional one. D. Music therapy helps maintain people’s voice in a limited way. 26. What will probably be talked about in the following paragraph?  A. ParkinSong gathers more Parkinson patients to sing together. B. Music therapy is used in treatments of other conditions. C. Doctors found new therapies for Parkinson’s patients. D. The origin of music therapy in Parkinson treatment. C One of the most traditional British holidays is the “seaside holiday”. Typically, families get on a train or into a car and travel to British seaside towns. They sunbathe on the beach, buy ice creams, eat fish and chips, build sandcastles and so on. In the early 1970s, air travel became affordable for the average family in t he UK, and more and more British people started travelling abroad for their summer holidays. After all, the British weather isn’t very good, even in summer, so a lot leave the UK for a vacation. Particularly popular with families on a budget is the “package holiday”, where the cost of flights and accommodation are offered as one discounted price by travel agents. In the 1980s and 1990s, young people in the UK became more wealthy, or at least had more disposable income. As a result, young people started to go abroad in groups, to places such as Spain and Greece. Once at their destination, they socialized with other groups of young people and had one long party. British holidaying habits have begun to change, however, climate change means that the UK now has a warmer climate than before, so people don’t always feel they need to go overseas to find good weather. Also, the world seems a less certain place as interconnected economics rise and fall, which means that the cost of foreign holidays is less predictable than it used to be. As a result, more and more Britons are choosing to spend their summer holidays in the UK. In the UK, the domestic ( 国 内 的 ) tourism industry-- when people go on holiday in their own country--is healthier than it has been in decades. There is now an increased appreciation among Britons for the diversity of the UK. It is not just the geography and the diversity of climate-based activities on offer. It’s also the diversity of the cultures in the UK that is beginning to be of interest to domestic tourists. The UK has always been famous for its international explorers, but now it is starting to discover itself. 27. What mainly caused Britons travel abroad for holidays in the early 1970s? A. The bad weather in the UK. B. The lower cost of flights. C. The trend of going overseas. D. The rise of tourism industry. 28. What does the underlined word “disposable” mean in paragraph 3? A. easy to handle B. steady in amount C. available for use D. flexible to change 29. What can we learn from the passage? A. Climate change has an impact on the change of British holidaying habits. B. Steady interconnected economics encourage more Britons holiday in the UK. C. Package holiday was particularly popular with rich families in the early 1970s. D. Both domestic and international tourists are interested in the diversity of the UK. 30. What’s author’s attitude towards UK’s domestic tourism industry? A. Uncertain. B. Pessimistic. C. Optimistic. D. Objective. 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)[ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 You never forget how to ride a bike, but most of us forget how hard it was to learn. That’s why when adults teach children, the experience can be frustrating. 31 The fundamentals of biking are balance, coasting, pedalling (踏板) and steering (操控). To help your child learn to balance, have her sit on the bike seat with both feet touching the ground. Then have her scoot (快速移动) the bike forwards by pushing off with her feet. 32 Show how she can coast with her feet very near the ground and how she can stop simply by placing her feet down.[来源:学#科#网 Z#X#X#K] 33 Have her stand over the bike with one foot on the ground and one on a pedal. Before beginning, remind her how to put her feet down in order to stop the bike or regain balance. Instruct her to push down on the pedal with the first foot while placing the other foot on the other pedal just as she begins to move forward. You can place your hand on the back of the seat to reassure and steady her as soon as she is in motion, and then let go. 34 After several successful straight runs, introduce steering. Start by making her ride in large circles that give her the feel of controlling the direction of the bike. 35 Eventually, she’ll master her turns, her speed and her stops. When she’s really comfortable riding and steering, talk about using the brakes to stop the bike. Whether that means pedal brakes or hand brakes, emphasize slowing down before braking gently. A. Once she’s a confident coaster, it’s time to pedal. B. In the meanwhile, remind her to keep her feet moving. C. The most important part in teaching cycling is to emphasize the basics. D. He was in a smaller cardboard box marked “free kittens” when Sasha met him and took him home. From that moment on, he loved boxes. In the mornings he sat, licking (舔) his paws and fur with his tongue in the rainbow-colored sunlight. Then he would look around for a box to sleep in. He slept in hatboxes and shipping boxes, gift boxes and takeout food boxes. He slept in Sasha’s sock drawer, if she left it open. When he was a kitten, the size of a small load of bread, he had slept in shoeboxes. But he grew and grew, and now he was a lot bigger. When he tried to sleep in a shoebox, his furry tummy (肚子) hung over the sides. Chester didn’t just sit in boxes, though. Sometimes he sat in flowerpots, pans, or laundry baskets. Chester also liked to sit in the bedroom of Sasha’s dollhouse, her birthday gift, with the furniture in a mess. Sasha had to redecorate the dollhouse every day, but she didn’t mind as long as Chester was happy. Sasha’s mom suggested Chester ne ed a fixed house of his own, but Sasha ignored. One day Sasha came home from school, and she couldn’t find Chester. He wasn’t in the dollhouse, or her sock drawer. “Mom, Dad!” Sasha yelled. “Chester is gone!” Sasha’s mom looked in the attic (阁楼). There were boxes and dust balls, and even a mouse that had escaped Chester’s notice, but no Chester. Sasha’s dad looked in the kitchen cabinets. There were pots and pans, and the old can of soup he thought he’d lost, but no Chester. Suddenly, “I found him!” Sasha cried. The big orange cat was inside her mom’s new glass vase, clear glass with blue and green lines. He curled up in it, his fatty body almost jamming the vase. Paragraph 1: He didn’t look happy at all. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Luckily, not only Chester, but the vase, was still in one piece. __________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________英语参考答案 第 I 卷 第一部分: 听力 1-5:CABCC 6-10:CACBC 11-15:ABCAC 16-20:BCACA 听力材料 (Text 1) W: So, what do you think of the lamb? (Text 2) M: Do you have any special plans for tomorrow? If you’d like, I can treat you to the movies tomorrow afternoon. W: Well, I have a doctor’s appointment at noon, and I’m going to have dinner with my brother at six. I could probably enjoy a movie in between, since it’s your treat. (Text 4) M: Should I accept this exchange program and head off to France for three months? W: Are you serious? Everyone I know is lining up to go there and you are actually considering not going. M: I know, but work was so busy last week that I didn’t have time to go to the supermarket. (Text 6) W: Hello, it’s Emma MacDonald here from AB Electronics. I’d like to book a room for the 25th please. M: Certainly. Would you like a single or a double room? W: ⑥A room for three please. M: The rooms for three are $150 per night, including breakfast.
