February usually marks the month of the New Year according to the Chinese calendar. But for me, Chinese New Year is a payday. Usually I receive red envelopes (“hongbao”) which are the equivalent ( 同 等 物 ) of Christmas presents. Instead of wondering what the present will be, it is the amount of money inside that is the mystery. I always have to wait weeks to find out how much money my parents have in store for me. I never knew how the traditions of Chinese New Year derived,_and I never gave it much thought, until my mom forced me to attend a special Chinese school where I learned about the origins of the traditions behind the famous celebration and had a knowledge of how the hanging of red lanterns or fireworks developed. But before that, the only part of the holiday that had ever concerned me was the “hongbao” and as selfish as it may sound. But now Chinese New Year is a wonderful holiday for me not because of the “hongbao” , but the profound Chinese culture I have learned from the special school. The excitement that comes with expecting Chinese New Year is one I will never get tired of. While the real celebrations are taking place in China, my family holds its own traditions. I can always count on my mom to make delicious Chinese food every year, and there is英语试题 第 3 页 共 10 页 consolation (安慰) in knowing that as my sisters and I open our “hongbaos”, our cousins so many miles away are doing the same. 24. What did the author care about most on Chinese New Year at first? A. The amount of money she received. B. The traditions behind the celebration. C. Various activities during Chinese New Year. D. The presents that her parents would give her. 25. What does the underlined word “derived” in Para. 3 probably mean? A. Worked. B. Continued. C. Began. D. Changed. 26. What can we infer about the author's mom? A. She has a strong feeling towards China. B. She knows little about Chinese traditions. C. She always gives her children a lot of money. D. She tends to surprise her children on western festivals. 27.What's the best title of the passage? A. New Year Hongbao B. My Mom and China C. Closer Attachment to China D. Unforgettable Moments C There are less frightening methods to beat the summer heat than by wolfing down stillboiling chicken soup for lunch. But followers of a ROK's tradition say that few are as effective. Their belief is “yi yeol chi yeol” or “fight fire with fire” and their weapon of choice is samgyetang, a whole young chicken stuffed with sticky rice, ginseng root (人参根), red dates and garlic, served piping hot in its own soup. At the peak of summer, many of them seek out bowls of samgyetang in the belief that it provides nutrients, improves circulation and helps balance the body's internal and external temperatures. “The concepts that make it good for you on a hot day are rooted in traditional ROK's英语试题 第 4 页 共 10 页 medicine and are very old,” said Maangchi Kim, the ROK'sCanadian cookbook author and YouTube star. “If I have some hot samgyetang,” she said. “I sweat a bit, and my body feels more in_sync_with the environment.” Skeptics might ask for scientific evidence and be surprised that some exists. A 2012 study at the University of Ottawa found that drinking warm liquids on hot days can lower body temperature more than drinking cold liquids can because it activates the body's natural cooling system: perspiration. When sweat evaporates ( 蒸发), some of our body heat leaves with it, making us feel cooler. The theory was put to the test on a recent 84 (27 ℃ ) day at Hansol Nutrition Center, which despite its name is not a shop selling vitamins and protein, but a ROK's restaurant known for its samgyetang. “It's one of the bestselling items on our menu in the summer,” said Peter Ro, an owner. “Especially in hot weather.” Whether it provides relief from the heat ultimately depends on one's definition of relief. Any cooling effect is not always immediate. “I guess we're thinking more toward the longerterm benefits , ” Mr. Ro said. Ms. Kim, though, swears by its tempering ( 调 温 ) qualities. “It might only be psychological for me, as a ROK's,” she said. “But it feels like it's working.” 28. How do people in ROK cope with hot weather according to the text? A. Play with fire. B. Have something cold. C. Sweat by exercising. D. Drink some hot chicken soup. 29. What does the underlined part “in sync with” probably mean in the fourth paragraph? A. In agreement with. B. In relation to. C. In return for. D. In need of. 30. What is the scientific evidence for the effectiveness of samgyetang? A. It makes hot air go off. B. It cools the weather naturally. C. It drives heat out of the body. D. It motivates people to exercise. 31.How does the author feel about this ROK's tradition? A. He remains neutral. B. He thinks it effective. C. He is skeptical about it. D. He regards it as frightening.英语试题 第 5 页 共 10 页 D After decades of playing catchup with the U.S. and Russian space programs, China did something neither nation nor any other had done this December: land a spaceship on the dark side of the moon. Strictly speaking, of course, the moon has no dark side. But because of the way it orbits Earth, our natural satellite shows us only one side—the other is hidden from our view. No one even saw the far side until 1959, when the Soviet Luna 3 spaceship flew around for a look and sent back photos. No astronaut or spaceship went there until this December, when the China National Space Agency (CNSA) launched a 2,500pound lander called Chang'e4 to the southern end of the lunar far side. Chang'e4 operated a small rover ( 探测车) to survey the geography there for the first time ever. By examining the geography of its landing area, Chang'e4 could solve longstanding puzzles about the moon, including how it formed 4.5 billion years ago. Chang'e4 also carried a very smalllunar biosphere (生态圈) containing silkworm eggs and a tiny greenhouse designed to grow potatoes in order to study the growth of the seeds on the moon. Besides Chang'e4, China plans to launch Chang'e5 in 2019. Its mission will be to gather moon rocks using an orbiter, a lander or collector, an ascent stage ( 上 升 器 ) and a capsule that will separate from the orbiter and return the rocks to the earth. With these missions, the Chinese will have shown complete mastery of flight in the space between the earth and the moon, said Paul Spudis, an experienced lunar researcher based in Houston. CNSA has already outlined ideas for Chinese astronauts to follow the robots to the moon. Pei Zhaoyu, deputy director of CNSA's Lunar Exploration and Space Program Center, told that China plans a permanent robotic lunar station in about 10 years and suggested a human presence on the moon another decade or so after that. Spudis said China's ambitious Chang'e4 and Chang'e5 missions should send human's plans for lunar return into rapid development. 32. What do we know about the dark side of the moon from the first two paragraphs? A. Two western countries have taken its photos. B. It is hidden from people's view due to the earth's orbit. C. China is the first country to land a spaceship there. D. It exists because the sun never shines there.英语试题 第 6 页 共 10 页 33. Why did Chang'e4 operate a small rover? A. To study the geography of the lunar dark side. B. To grow potatoes on the moon. C. To examine the growth of eggs and seeds. D. To survey the lunar biosphere. 34. Which of the following can move apart from the orbiter of Chang'e5? A. The lander. B. The collector. C. The ascent stage. D. The capsule. 35. What is Spudis's attitude to China's Chang'e4 and Chang'e5 missions? A. Cautious. B. Disapproving. C. Ambiguous. D. Favorable. 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白项的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Whoever wrote the song “It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” must have never experienced holiday blues. Fortunately, psychological research suggests some effective ways you can beat the holiday blues. The key point is that sadness and other tough emotions are not what we should try to avoid. 36 . Here are four strategies to help you make your own happiness recipe this holiday season. Don't force cheer At family gatherings with cousins you secretly can't stand, you tend to put on a happy face. Indeed, that might even seem like the most mature response—no drama, no conflict. But a 2011 study followed dozens of bus drivers, looking to see when they gave forced or honest smiles at their passengers. The results showed when the drivers pretended to have a good mood, their actual moods got worse. 37_. Let off sadness The results of the busdriver study can be explained by researchers, who find that negative feelings like sadness or anger only increase when we try to control them. 38 . We don't like contradictory behavior. Respond cautiously Recently, scientists have been paying special attention to the benefits of caution. When you respond cautiously to an emotional trigger (e.g.overcooking the holiday turkey), you英语试题 第 7 页 共 10 页 pause rather than reacting at once. 39 . Besides, it is associated with less anxiety, and may even carry physiological benefits. 40_ Of course, the holidays will bring a mix of highs and lows, but the most important lesson to keep in mind is that this variety of emotions might be the best thing possible for your overall wellbeing. In other words, sadness, anger, and other difficult emotions are nothing to fear. Just make sure you're balancing them with lighter experiences. And don't forget to give yourself a break. A. Relax your mind B. Enjoy a mix of emotions C. We tend to deny the important function emotions serve D. Instead, they can help contribute to a healthy and happy life E.
