I have applied for King’s College and fortunately received an offer. I am in need of some financial assistance as I come from a middle-class family and my parents would not be able to meet the tuition fee. I am wondering whether you offer scholarship programs to help students like me in pursuing their dreams. I request you to kindly forward me any information regarding the procedure to apply for a scholarship, the deadlines, requirements, etc. via lihua_china@hotmail.com. I look forward to an early and positive reply from your side. Yours, Li Hua 第二节 续写 Then Henry, beside me, came to my aid. He fixed my costume tying the drawstring with a fancy knot. He made a joke about me “not” knowing knots and the audience laughed again. This time the laughter felt okay. I got through the rest of the play entering and exciting the stage and singing at all the right times, but my mind was in shock. At the end of the performance, after we’d bowed and moved offstage, I fell in a chair. I found Henry and talked to him that night. My face burst into flames again, but he smiled at me as if my mistake was no big deal. I smiled at him. Kindly I said, “Thanks, for, you know what.” He grinned, “knot a problem.” Maybe it won’t be so bad to have a new person in my corner of the world at all. 听力原文 Text 1. Guide dogs are increasingly popular in some cities as well as in the countryside. However, not all dogs can be trained into real guide dogs. First of all, dogs chosen for such training must show intelligence, physical fitness, responsibility and so on. At the age of about 14 months, a guide dog begins an intensive course given in special ways. It becomes accustomed to the leather equipment that it will wear when guiding its blind owner. The dog learns to obey such commands as “forward”, “left”, “right” and “sit” and to disobey any command that might lead its owner into danger. If the training is successful, three to five months later, it will be sent to work for its owner. The most important part of the training course is a 4-week program in which the guide dog and第 5 页 共 5 页 its future owner learn to work together. However, many blind people are not suited by personality to work with dogs. The result is not often satisfactory, and only about a tenth of the blind find a guide dog useful.
