Many years ago, people depended on the sun, moon and stars to find their way around. Later, the compass was invented. And now, we have satellite navigation(satnav) systems(卫星导航系统) to guide us.
BeiDou can find you wherever you are. It helps you go faster by finding shortcuts(捷径) and using correct directions. When you are in trouble and call the police, they will know exactly where you are if you have a cellphone that uses BeiDou.
The earliest built satnav system is the Global Positioning System(GPS), which belongs to the US. Then there is Russia's Global Navigation Satellite System, the European Union's Galileo and China's own satellite navigation system, BeiDou.
On Oct 14th, 2017, an ARJ21700 plane, which was the first plane made in China, with the BeiDou navigation system, successfully completed a test flight. The results showed the performance of the system developed by China matches that of similar systems produced abroad.
Since its introduction in 2000, the BeiDou navigation system has seen increasing numbers of applications(应用) connected to everyday life, from shared bikes to farming. For example, shared bikes, smart locks with the BeiDou make it easier to find a bike. Farmers can use Beidou to help plow(犁耕) the soil and sow seeds. BeiDou's farming applications have spread most parts of China.
With its many uses, the BeiDou navigation system is even playing a big role in the Belt and Road Initiative. “Till now, the BeiDou system has covered most parts of the AsiaPacific area.” said the main designer of the BeiDou system.
Today there are more than 20 BeiDou satellites above our heads, and China plans to send up eight more this year to expand(扩大) the BeiDou network to better serve the Belt and Road Initiative.

Queen Elizabeth Ⅱ is the typically proper British monarch(君主). She is famous for her conservative dress, her reserved personality, and as of October 2014, for never giving an interview to the press. However, she was interviewed recently. And she was caught making a joke about U.S. Presidents Donald Trump and Barack Obama during the interview.
On that day she was being interviewed by famous U.K. broadcaster(播音员) David Attenborough for a documentary(纪录片) on ITV titled “The Queen's Green Planet”.
The Queen got candid during the rare TV interview. She was showing Attenborough around Buckingham Palace's gardens when a noisy helicopter(直升飞机) interrupted them from above.
“Why do they always go round and round when you want to talk?” Queen Elizabeth joked about the noise. She added, “Sounds like President Trump... or President Obama.”
The Queen, the 92yearold ruler, met with Obama several times during his presidency. She has yet to meet with Trump.
During their chat, the Queen and Attenborough touched on climate change. The Queen also showed off trees she planted for her four children and hoped there would be all kinds of different trees growing in the gardens in 50 years.
