But beyond the minimum requirements as social beings, they have little instinct (本能) to help one another. Chimps in the wild seek food for themselves. Even chimp mothers regularly decline to share food with their children, who are able from a young age to gather their own food.‎ In the laboratory, chimps don't naturally share food either. If a chimp is put in a cage where he can pull in one plate of food for himself or, with no greater effort, a plate that also provides food for a neighbor in the next cage, he will pull at random—he just doesn't care whether his neighbor gets fed or not. Chimps are truly selfish.‎ Human children, on the other hand, are naturally cooperative. From 由莲山课件提供http://www.5ykj.com/ 资源全部免费 由莲山课件提供http://www.5ykj.com/ 资源全部免费 ‎ the earliest ages, they desire to help others, to share information and to participate in achieving common goals. The psychologist Michael Tomasello has studied this cooperativeness in a series of experiments with very young children. He finds that if babies aged 18 months see an unrelated adult with hands full trying to open a door, almost all will immediately try to help.‎ There are several reasons to believe that the urges to help, inform and share are not taught, but naturally possessed in young children. One is that these instincts appear at a very young age before most parents have started to train their children to behave socially. Another is that the helping behaviors are not improved if the children are rewarded. A third reason is that social intelligence develops in children before their general cognitive (认知的) skills, at least when compared with chimps. In tests conducted by Tomasello, the human children did no better than the chimps on the physical world tests but were considerably better at understanding the social world.‎ The core of what children's minds have and chimps' don't is what Tomasello calls shared intentionality. Part of this ability is that they can infer what others know or are thinking. But beyond that, even very young children want to be part of a shared purpose. They actively seek to be part of a “we”, a group that intends to work toward a shared goal.‎ ‎25.What can we learn from the experiment with chimps?‎ A.Chimps seldom care about others' interests.‎ B.Chimps tend to provide food for their children.‎ C.Chimps like to take in their neighbors' food.‎ D.Chimps naturally share food with each other.‎ ‎26.Michael Tomasello's tests on young children indicate that they ________.‎ 由莲山课件提供http://www.5ykj.com/ 资源全部免费 由莲山课件提供http://www.5ykj.com/ 资源全部免费 A.have the instinct to help others B.know how to offer help to adults C.know the world better than chimps D.trust adults with their hands full ‎27.The passage is mainly about ________.‎ A.the helping behaviors of young children B.ways to train children's shared intentionality C.cooperation as a distinctive human nature D.the development of intelligence in children 故选A。 故选A。 ‎ C ‎(2017·郴州市质量监测)‎ Last night my husband and I were on the way to a show. He handed it to me and watched in amazement as I gathered together a “You make a difference” paper, including a smile card, a smile stamp and a smile button.‎ She came back to the window almost before I finished putting it all together. Without looking too closely she passed the bag and said, “Thank you. Have a good day.” I said,“Wait! This is for you.” As I placed the little smile gifts in her hand a smile spread across her face. As she looked at the items it got a little bigger but when I thanked her for her smile there was no holding back. She gave the biggest smile and she was laughing. It was very heartwarming.‎ My husband was very impressed by it. It made him smile too. The journey is a matter of 281 steps. But I used the car. And I wasn't in any hurry, either. I had merely become one more victim of a national sickness: motorosis.‎ It is an illness to which I had thought myself immune, for I was born in the tradition of going to places on my own two legs. At that time, we regarded 25 miles as a good day's walk and the ability to cover such a 由莲山课件提供http://www.5ykj.com/ 资源全部免费 由莲山课件提供http://www.5ykj.com/ 资源全部免费 ‎ distance in ten hours as sign of strength and skill. It did not occur to us that walking was a hardship. And the effect was lasting. When I was 45 years old I raced and beat a teenage football player the 168 steps up the Stature of Liberty.‎ Such enterprises today are regarded by many middleaged persons as bad for the heart. But a wellknown British physician, Sir Adolphe Abrahams, pointed out recently that hearts and bodies need proper exercise. A person who avoids exercise is more likely to have illnesses than one who exercises regularly. And walking is an ideal form of exercise—the most familiar and natural of all.‎ It was Henry Thoreau who showed mankind the richness of going on foot. The man walking can learn the trees, flower, insects, birds and animals, the significance of seasons, the very feel of himself as a living creature in a living world. He cannot learn in a car.‎ The car is a convenient means of transport, but we have made it our way of life. Many people don't dare to approach Nature any more; to them the world they were born to enjoy is all threat. To them security is a_steelriver thundering on a concrete road. And much of their thinking takes place while waiting for the traffic light to turn green.‎ I say that the green of forests is the mind's best light. And none but the man on foot can evaluate what is basic and everlasting.‎ ‎31.What is the national sickness?‎ A.Walking too much. ‎ B.Traveling too much.‎ C.Driving cars too much. ‎ D.Climbing stairs too much.‎ ‎32.What was life like when the author was young?‎ A.People usually went around on foot.‎ 由莲山课件提供http://www.5ykj.com/ 资源全部免费 由莲山课件提供http://www.5ykj.com/ 资源全部免费 B.People often walked 25 miles a day.‎ C.People used to climb the Statue of Liberty.‎ D.People considered a tenhour walk as a hardship.‎ ‎33.The author mentions Henry Thoreau to prove that________.‎ A.middleaged people like getting back to nature B.walking in nature helps enrich one's mind C.people need regular exercise to keep fit D.going on foot prevents heart disease ‎34.What is compared to “a steel river” in Paragraph 6?‎ A.A queue of cars.‎ B.A ray of traffic light.‎ C.A flash of lightning. ‎ D.A stream of people.‎ ‎35.What is the author's intention of writing this passage?‎ A.To tell people to reflect more on life.‎ B.To recommend people to give up driving.‎ C.To advise people to do outdoor activities. ‎ D.To encourage people to return to walking.‎ 答案与解析 作者在本文中说明现在很多人都患上了一种国家病:开车太多,很少步行。 I took my car to mail a small parcel. The journey is a matter of 281 steps. But I used the car. And I wasn't in any hurry, either, I had merely become one more victim of a national sickness:‎ 由莲山课件提供http://www.5ykj.com/ 资源全部免费 由莲山课件提供http://www.5ykj.com/ 资源全部免费 ‎ motorosis. At that time, we regarded 25 miles as a good day's walk and the ability to cover such a distance in ten hours as sign of strength and skill. It did not occur to us that walking was a hardship. 故A正确。 It was Henry Thoreau who showed mankind the richness of going on foot. The man walking can learn the trees, flower, insects, birds and animals, the significance of seasons, the very feel of himself as a living creature in a living world. 根据本句to them the world they were born to enjoy is all threat. To them security is a steel river thundering on a concrete road. 故A正确。 ‎ 由莲山课件提供http://www.5ykj.com/ 资源全部免费 由莲山课件提供http://www.5ykj.com/ 资源全部免费 ‎(2017·成都外国语学校质检)‎ Selfie Social media and the mobile web have given rise to a strange phenomenon called the selfie.
