Step into Wonderland and follow any of the many tracks around Kinabalu Park. Even though it is the most explored and studied place in Borneo, new discoveries of rare plants are frequently being made here.
So take a map and set off on your own or follow Park Naturalists as they take you on guided path walks and point out the various wonders. There are also visual shows advertising rare plants and animals here. If you are a first time visitor, sign up for these shows and you'll be excited when you find yourself identifying the same plants and animals on your walks or during your climb up Mt. Kinabalu.
Mt. Kinabalu Botanical Garden is one of the biggest attractions at the park, which started in 1981. This 5acre garden is an excellent collection of different kinds of plants on the mountain, as plants from all over the park have been replanted here. There are hotels, inns and chalets(牧人小屋) at Kinabalu Park to suit one's budget. For more information, click www.sabahtourism.com.

Remembering names is an important social skill. Here are some ways to master it.
●Recite and repeat in conversation.
When you hear a person's name, repeat it. Immediately say it to yourself several times without moving your lips. You could also repeat the name in a way that does not sound forced or artificial.

●Ask the other person to recite and repeat.
You can let other people help you remember their names. After you've been introduced to someone, ask that person to spell the name and pronounce it correctly for you. Most people will be pleased by the effort you're making to learn their names.
●Admit you don't know.
Admitting that you can't remember someone's name can actually make people relaxed. Most of them will feel sympathy if you say, “I'm working to remember names better. Yours is right on the tip of my tongue. What is it again?”
●Use associations.
Link each person you meet with one thing you find interesting or unusual. For example, you could make a mental note: “Vicki Cheng-tall, black hair.” To reinforce your associations, write them on a small card as soon as possible.
●Limit the number of new names you learn at one time.
When meeting a group of people, concentrate on remembering just two or three names. Free yourself from remembering every one. Few of the people in mass introductions expect you to remember their names. Another way is to limit yourself to learning first names. Last names can come later.
●Go early.
Consider going early to conferences, parties and classes. Sometimes just a few people show up on time. There're fewer names for you to remember. And as more people arrive, you can hear them being introduced to others—an automatic review for you.

Enough “meaningless drivel”. That's the message from a group of members of the UK government who have been examining how social media firms like LinkedIn gather and use social media data.
The House of Commons Science and Technology Committee's report, released last week, has blamed firms for making people sign up to long incomprehensible legal contracts and calls for an international standard or kitemark(认证标记) to identify sites that have clear terms and conditions.
“The terms and conditions statement that we all carelessly agree to is meaningless drivel to anyone,” says Andrew Miller, the chair of the committee. Instead, he says, firms should provide a plainEnglish version of their terms. The simplified version would be checked by a third party and awarded a kitemark if it is an accurate reflection of the original.
It is not yet clear who would administer the scheme, but the UK government is looking at introducing it on a voluntary basis. “We need to think through how we make that work in practice,” says Miller.
Would we pay any more attention to a kitemark? “I think if you went and did the survey, people would like to think they would,” says Nigel Shadbolt at the University of Southampton, UK, who studies open data. “We do know people worry a lot about the inappropriate use of their information.” But what would happen in practice is another matter, he says.
Other organisations such as banks ask customers to sign long contracts they may not read or understand, but Miller believes social media requires special attention because it is so new. “We still don't

know how significant the longterm impact is going to be of unwise things that kids put on social media that come back and bite them in 20 years' time,” he says.
Shadbolt, who gave evidence to the committee, says the problem is that we don't know how companies will use our data because their business models and uses of data still evolving. Large collections of personal information have become valuable only recently, he says.
The shock and anger when a social media firm does something with data that people don't expect, even if users have apparently given permission, show that the current situation isn't working. If properly administered, a kitemark on terms and conditions could help people know what exactly they are signing up to. Although they would still have to actually read them.
27.What does the phrase “meaningless drivel” in paragraphs 1 and 3 refer to?
A.Legal contracts that social media firms make people sign up to.
B.Warnings from the UK government against unsafe websites.
C.Guidelines on how to use social media websites properly.
D.Insignificant data collected by social media firms.
28.It can be inferred from the passage that Nigel Shadbolt doubts whether ________.
A.social media firms would conduct a survey on the kitemark scheme
B.people would pay as much attention to a kitemark as they think
C.a kitemark scheme would be workable on a nationwide scale

Zebra crossings—the alternating dark and light stripes on the road surface—are meant to remind drivers that pedestrians may be trying to get across.Unfortunately, they are not very effective.A 1998 study done by the Department of Traffic Planning and Engineering at Sweden's Lund University, revealed that three out of four drivers maintained the same speed or even speeded up as they were approaching a crossing.Even worse? Only 5% stopped even when they saw someone trying to get across.
Now a motherdaughter team in Ahmedabad, India has come up with a clever way to get drivers to pay more attention—A 3D zebra

crossing with an optical illusion (视错觉).
Artists Saumya Pandya Thakkar and Shakuntala Pandya were asked to paint the crosswalks by IL&FS, an Indian company that manages the highways in Ahmedabad. The corporation was looking for a creative solution to help the city's residents to cross the busy accidentprone (易出事故的) roads safely.Thakkar and Pandya, who had previously seen images of 3D zebra crossings that gave drivers the illusion of logs(原木)of wood on the streets in Taizhou, China, decided to test if a similar way would work in India.
Sure enough, in the six months that the 3D crosswalks have been painted across four of the city's most dangerous highways, there have been no accidents reported! The artists say that while it may appear that the zebra crossing could cause the drivers to brake suddenly and endanger the vehicles behind, such is not the case.Because of the way the human eye works, the illusion is only visible from a distance. As they get closer, the painting looks just like any other ordinary zebra crossing. The creators hope that their smart design will become increasingly common throughout India and perhaps even the world. So let's look forward to it.
32.What can we learn from the first paragraph?
A.Most drivers will slow down at zebra crossings.
B.Common zebra crossings don't function well.
C.Drivers have to stop when approaching zebra crossings.
D.About 95% of the drivers choose to speed up when approaching zebra crossings.
33.Why do drivers seeing the 3D zebra crossings slow down?
A.Because the drivers consider the safety of pedestrians.
B.Because the drivers mistake them for logs of wood on the streets.

作后置定语,修饰team。因为被修饰词team和consist之间是主谓关系,故用现在分词。
65.who/ that 考查定语从句。
to one's amazement 是固定结构,表示“令某人惊讶的是”。举一反三:类似的用法有to one's delight,令人高兴的是; to one's relief,令人欣慰的等等。 “to + one's +情感名词”是英语中一个十分有用的结构,主要表示某人由于某事的发生而唤起其内心的某种情感,通常译为“令某人……的是”“使某人感到……的是”。
69.Encouraged 考查非谓语动词。此处为分词作状语,主语team与encourage之间是动宾关系,故选用过去分词“encouraged”。
70.another 考查代词。根据上文可知关于此事做过实验,这次是除了上次以外的另一个实验,故用another,表示“另一个”。

One day a lady saw a mouse running across his kitchen floor. She was very afraid of mice, so she ran out of the house, getting on a bus and went to a nearby shop. Here she bought a mousetrap and was advised to put any cheese in it. The lady went to home with her mousetrap, and could not find any cheese. She had no choice but cut a picture of some cheese out of a magazine and put it in the trap. Surprising, the picture of the cheese is quite “successful”! When the lady came down to the kitchen the next morning, she found a picture of a mouse in the trap besides the picture of the cheese!

答案
Dear_Editor,
I am a student from No.1 Middle School. I often find many people break the traffic rules. For example, some pedestrians cross the streets slowly and some jump over the guardrails in the streets. Some cyclists don't stop when the traffic lights turn red. What's worse, many drivers don't fasten their seat belts while driving. Smoking, speaking on mobile phones and speed driving can be seen everywhere.
In my opinion, these actions are not responsible and dangerous. It is our duty to obey the traffic rules. We must treasure our lives and protect the lives of others. So I suggest that those who break traffic rules should be fined or published. Only in this way will they think twice about breaking traffic rules again.
Yours,
Zhang_Yang
